If you enjoy cooking and eating fresh local seafood, Benny Hudson's fish market is a Can't Miss. They have their own shrimping boat, and the shrimp is so fresh and good. Also, ask for the deviled crab -- mostly crab meat; best I've ever had. bennyhudsonseafood.com/This would be a short stop - but one I will try, love me some shrimp - as DW does not like seafood.

It's been about 8 years since we were in Hilton Head. The way it was when we stayed is you walk out the front of the resort and to your right where there should be large boats docked. In front of where the boats are docked there are eateries with outside seating. Towards the end of the row was a bar where a live band played. As you drive down the main thoroughfare, just before your arrive at the turnoff into the area to access the DVC, you'll see the shopping on your right. Google local wineries/breweries. I think Savanah is like an hour away on Rt. 17. They have a nice river walk. Thanks bakerworld, I always do the Google search for microbreweries before traveling (you don't get over 1,000 check ins on Untapped in 3 years without effort). The Savanah trip is a great suggestion, thanks.

There is a Jazz club on the Island, while we have never been there we have friends that say it is a must do. It typically sells out and we never think ahead to get reservation. Sorry I don't know the name so it will take some Google research to find it. We enjoy walking the water front just south of the DVC, they have a little amphitheater where there is often music being played and next to it is a decent Mexican place for drinks and apps. A bit farther down (still close enough to walk at least for us) is Ela's which we have had a couple of nice celabatory meals at. They have a few seats on the patio and if the weather is nice it is a great place to sit and watch the marina.
If you happen to go to Savanah on a Sunday I would recommend brunch at the Grey. It is in a converted Greyhound bus terminal and has good food and drinks plus live music.

This is as confusing as the 2 restaurants next door to each other with "dockside" in their names. And if there are, indeed, 2 separate "Hudson" restaurants, how are the restaurants's "vibe" and food different?

Benny Hudson's Seafood is a fish market, not a restaurant. However, the Reilly family leased land from Hudson's and recently (just this year) opened a restaurant next to the seafood store -- Benny's Coastal Kitchen ( bennyshiltonhead.com/ ). Haven't tried it, so can't really say how it is. But we will likely try it for a special dinner during a future visit. Down Squire Pope Road a road a bit further is Hudson's Seafood on the Docks ( www.hudsonsonthedocks.com/ ). It is NOT affiliated with Benny Hudson's Seafood anymore. Benny sold the restaurant in 1975. It's a traditional seafood restaurant, not bad for food, and has a nice deck to eat outside. Being from Maine, and rather particular about the way our fish and shellfish are prepared, we typically prefer to purchase fresh seafood and cook it ourselves. So Benny Hudson's Seafood is a market we hit up at least once per trip. Hope that clarifies things a bit. It's a complicated history. 🙂 Edit: Added date Hudson's On the Docks was sold; and note about Reilly family. Here's a bit more on the history for those interested: www.islandpacket.com/opinion/opn-columns-blogs/david-lauderdale/article274579136.html

This is one of my favorite things about visiting HHI. Lots of delicious seafood options for me and everywhere also serves chicken for DH
