I always have a jar of bacon grease in the frig. Green beans have to be seasoned with it. I will have to try your skillet toast. We eat low carb bread here and your suggestion can only improve it.

I’ll NEVER go back to an electric stove, EVER! Gas is so much better all the way around. Here’s hoping your kitchen gets done soon! Yeah, hopefully, I mean it's finally getting here, the cabinets should be in within a couple weeks and then hopefully the countertop doesn't have a 6-week lead time or something but at this point, "who cares" says I. I gutted the kitchen halfway through May so what's a little bit longer. Stove - Really, what I *really* wanted was gas burners with an electric box, but that costs way more. And I'm dying to try the broiler on the gas stove we got - in the photos it looks like a Salamander if anyone knows what that is - it's the toaster-oven sized insane flame box thing that pro restaurant kitchens have, they shove the food in it for short periods of time and it's basically a broiler on steroids. I wondered why they always call them "salamanders" even though they are made by various brands. A little research taught me something about an ancient Greek myth about salamanders (the lizard things) being viewed as the creators/keepers of fire and their skin being fireproof. People would throw a dead log on the fire that was collected from the woods, salamanders would run out because they were living in it, people saw salamanders coming from the fire and thus the story.

Laura Let me know, I was using this heavy dense locally baked bread, so the texture turned out more like french toast but not sweet. Like it was crispy on the outside but still moist and chewy (and hot as hell) on the inside. And there was just enough grease left in the pan that I didn't need to butter the "toast" afterward. In fact, before I threw the last piece of bread in the pan, I used it to "clean" my bacon grease knife by wiping it on the bread, so kinda like making grilled cheese I guess. I knew someone that had to go gluten free, she told me that all the gluten-free bread is garbage. In her opinion. hee hee. I've tried the gluten free pizza crusts a couple times just for fun and it seemed okay. I know this is not the same as low carb, it just made me remember her saying that. I don't think I've ever had low carb bread, I just limit how much of it I eat. Wife likes a fried egg sandwich, I do one for myself also but it's open-face on a smaller piece of bread.

Bread cooked in bacon grease is an old English grandmothers trick that I never understood until trying as an adult.. Cook the bacon in oven ( directions on package of Oscar Mayer thick center cut bacon … and drain to refrigerate … then pop popcorn in bacon grease the old fashion way ( not microwave…)… I also love to cook my French toast in skillet with bacon grease… Fortunately I have to walk up 3 flights of stairs with groceries and trash many times daily . Plus exercise in a lazy River.. try walking in the opposite flow of River current !
And if you are in serious need of reasonable priced Water theme parks very close to WDW the H2O water Theme Park in same parking lot as MargaritaVille Resort and soon to Open Embassy Suites Timeshares ( yes free breakfast and daily happy hour with membership ) … $$$$ H2O looks very small as you drive past on Irlo Bronson 192 but is incredibly fun and big and has the lazy River, Wave pool and private adult pool with adult Bar , 2 sided childrens water play areas so families have seating very close to waters edge plus Friday night dive in movies on huge screen Season begins in Feb and ends Thanksgiving week And does not use drying chlorine but uses modern fluorescent lighting to filter water … And Black Friday cheap season passes … For the price of one day at Typhoon or Blizzard Beach… They recently had Adult only glow party … and other themed events for children , etc… When in Orlando you must compete with your nearby competition, I guess.
Anyway what was the topic again?

Bread cooked in bacon grease is an old English grandmothers trick that I never understood until trying as an adult.. I think the cooking video I was watching, he was doing "a full English breakfast" which to me, looked way healthier than all the plates of carbs that we eat for breakfast here. But what do I know. I mean it was sausages, bacon (I think he did back bacon and some american bacon), beans, tomatoes, eggs, and at the end, two little pieces of bread, fried in what was left in the pan.

That English breakfast used to make me gag seeing the baked beans blend in with gravy grease from cooking those eggs… Haha

I’ll NEVER go back to an electric stove, EVER! Gas is so much better all the way around. Here’s hoping your kitchen gets done soon! With the likely exception of convection. From everything I've read, this is superior to even gas for heat uniformity and cooking effectiveness. Will possibly go that way, but would need to do some wiring.
Cheers.

Love my gas cooktop but we have considered induction next time we replace it. Our oven is electric.

I'm thinking you mean induction? Convection is the fan inside the oven, for even baking of cookies etc. Induction is the Star Trek technology that uses magnets to heat the bottom of your pots and pans in rapid order. I did seriously consider that, but I do enjoy banging my pans around on the cooktop and generally being rough and noisy with them, and I didn't want to see scratches in the beautiful glossy black top, not to mention heaven forbid I crack it. Just this morning, I had an egg in the pan, I did that chef thing where they flip it in the air and it landed with a smack in the pan, I wanted the yolk to break but it didn't, so I banged the pan down 2-3 times and the yolk finally broke. Or I'll grab the pan and shake it violently to and fro. Those are the things that I think would be rough on a nice glossy black cooktop.... ...although they look awesome and they tend to have blinky lights, I love blinky lights ...and they might even make high-frequency squealy noises, oh that would be great

I was doing research on a used vehicle and one of the things I search for (especially for this make of vehicle, not throwing out any names) and is transmission. Well there was a list that included "Won't shift out of 2nd gear" Well now all I can think of is the "Little Nash Rambler" song.

We love our gas, too, and I've not used induction yet, so this is all based on things I've read. A good friend who really researches this stuff has a standalone induction burner and suggests trying this first before making the plunge. But he loves it.
Cheers.

Give me flame and control, please. Grew up with gas as a child watching my parents and grandmother cook. Move to the burbs but they still had gas. Got engaged ended up with electric, first house electric, ugh…. You can’t cook on high or med high and bring it down to a simmer on an electric. Plain and simple. Food could be Almost scorching but for some reason never retained the heat once plated and brought to the table. Finally second home back to gas. Though a 100 yr home with a galley kitchen, why did I have a city stove? But it was gas and I love it. We moved and I took the upgrade on a new built. So I have the four burners and the long one in the middle. Which honestly why was I impressed about that burner I always wanted, it just isn’t that great, sadly. My oven is gas but turns to electric for broiling. It has a convection oven setting to which I’ve read you can adjust recipes for that air fryer machine and just use the oven. I love that I can switch to broil as in my old house the broiler was the bottom and you would have to move it to there to get the browning effect. My bottom draw is a warming draw with 3 settings. I love that. I can keep dinner warm or food while I’m finishing up. I think I love that most about my new stove. Will say some of my burners are so hot that I’ve had to adjust cooking. It says med high I learned medium to 4 or else it will be burnt. But gas all the way! I like to cook nobody is taking my gas stove.

I would never go to standard electric. I had a place with an electric stove and had a friend who worked ion HVAC plumb it for gas.
From everything I've read about induction (yeah, induction ), the control and sensitivity are better/finer than gas. And nothing other than the cookware actually gets hot. Definitely something to try, but the general consensus is that this is the next step in control beyond standard gas.
We've been doing so many DIY house improvements (most recent was addition of a bunch of cameras and a security system), that I'll certainly take a break before even considering this move. The standalone induction burner would come first. But, if the reviews are true, this would be an improvement in cooking control over gas.
Cheers.
