I got through season 4 of Star Trek Lower Decks before my month of Paramount ran out, and I returned to work (new hip is awesome). The first episode was bad, but I got hooked pretty quickly because I loved all the Easter eggs in the episodes, so much fun. I may watch again this summer break to finish the series. My favorite episode was the second movie holodeck episode, even the theme music nailed it.
DH and I are watching Shogun--so good. We started Napoleon, but due to our excessive boredom while watching it, we've bailed about 3/4s through. Honestly I was out about 1/4 through it.

All were great first episodes and I look forward to watching throughout the season, or via PBS Passport (the best $5.00 I spend a month). ooh, thanks for the heads up. For some reason, that didn't pop up in my new recordings Watched it last night. . I am looking very forward to the new Call the Midwife season.

Went and saw the new Ghostbusters this afternoon. The first part, I was reminded of something I heard on the radio, when someone said, "Who ya gonna call? - for your refund on the new Ghostbusters movie" heh heh heh. Then approx the second half is when we felt it was more enjoyable. A few interesting characters, the bad guy, the unlikely good guy, a little bit darker vibe, and lots of little easter egg - callbacks for nerds like me, including somebody in a crowd yelling, calling the character of Walter Peck "dickless" (I think I got that name right)
Saw a preview for the Deadpool and it just reminded me of being a bus driver again....this will be pretty funny with the 4th - 7th grade crowds. My opinion. I know lots of people like it!

We might try and see the new Ghostbusters this weekend , if we can fit it in. DS hasn't seen the GB Afterlife though, so he may be a bit lost, haha. I can't wait for Deadpool 3. I didnt' like Deadpool the first time I saw it, but the more I watched Ryan Reynolds movies, the more I got used to him and his comedy style. But I could see how people find him very annoying. Very excited/hopeful for this one> I haven't seen Logan yet, or even The Wolverine, so probably should watch those first Did watch Mission IMpossible 7 part 1. It was enjoyable. Pretty cliche, but looking forward to part 2. It's not coming out until 2025! DH is enjoying Shogun. He also enjoyed Masters of the Air. He said, like the Pacific, just not nearly as good as Band of Brothers, but that will be hard to top. THat was so well done. He also said Napoleon was awful. I still haven't seen Oppenheimer or Barbie, maybe soon, Besides Call the Midwife, and Bad Batch, I'm watching fluff, but fun fluff. Abbott ELementary, Top Chef, Amazing Race, Tournament of Champions on food network, etc. I did catch the last several episodes of season 4 of Killing Eve. I'd watched the first 2 seasons, don't think got tired of it, I think I skipped all of the third, but thought "I'll just watch these just to wrap it up," it was good enough. Oh, we are watching that RIck/Michonne Walking Dead spinoff. It's awful. Not quite as bad as Fear the Walking Dead became, but overall very, very bad.

If you want to watch a movie that's light, silly, sometimes funny, with a heart, check out Next Goal Wins. It's on Hulu. Based on a true story.

She was flipping around the tv, looks like it was Peacock, and I don't usually watch anything but I got all excited because I saw the face of Bill Nye the Science Guy. Turns out there's a show from 2022, which I think is six parts, called "The End is Nye" and we have watched two of them. Very, very cool, like a science-y action movie. I said it reminds me of the movies we were given at Epcot Center back in the day - "Symbiosis" at the Seas and also the one at Energy. Then of course Bill Nye was in the more recent Energy, and his voice is in Dinosaur aka Countdown to Extinction.

Call the Midwife has been good this season, but I really enjoyed episode 3. It was very emotional, and well done. We're letting our Apple + subscription lapse for a bit, but before we did, I watched Shrinking. Harrison Ford was excellent, really good dialogue and acting. Overall, show had some really good moments, but went on a bit much/long. Also letting Paramount + go soon, so we're watching Tulsa King, it's not awful , better than expected.

Once in a while, once in a long, long time, you get one of those opportunities...one of those "I can't believe this is happening" moments. A couple months ago, wife gets a new ipad, first in 6-7 years, to replace one from work. New ipad comes with "get three free months of apple+" which we finally get and to be honest, not our thing. But, there it is, sitting in the movies, "Fight Club" - the bar of pink soap. "Hey look, Fight Club!" I know she's never seen Fight Club. "You've never seen Fight Club!" "We should watch Fight Club." "We have to watch Fight Club." "I can't believe you've never seen Fight Club." She's never seen Fight Club! So today must have been a bad day at work, she's moody, five minutes after we get home she says, "I think we should order pizza and watch Fight Club." Specifically she said "taco pizza" which means from a certain place and I don't usually go for it, or the fee that comes with delivery...but today I say "Okay." So we are watching the movie, it's been a long time for me but I know how it works, what's coming. She does not. I see her getting into it, getting sucked into the story, the questions, the supposed and imagined answers. Suddenly and in short order, the movie makers start to show us what they want us to know, and the look on her face....awesome Awesome! You don't get that very often in life. Awesome!

Three-Body Problem on Netflix. Based on the brilliant book set by Cixin Liu. I read the books a couple of years back and they are, IMO, better than the show. It makes too many changes to much of it, including characters and nationalities.
With that aside, the series is still very good. mrs. brp, who has not read the books, has really enjoyed season 1. Sci Fi about pending alien invasion and how we handle the news that they will be here in about 400 years. Visually great.
Cheers.

2024 Gershwin Awards from the Library of Congress. This year it went to the songwriting team of Elton John & Bernie Taupin (only the second and third Brits to receive the award after Macca). Streaming on PBS for a few more weeks.
Brilliant show with great performances from Brandi Carlile, Garth Brooks and a truly kickass version of Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding from Metallica.
Cheers.

I watched Baby Reindeer on Netflix. It's heavy, disturbing, potentially triggering, with moments of heart and humor. It's based upon a real life experience of the writer/lead actor. It's seven episodes and they go quickly. The cast is phenomenal.

Have to say I have never seen Fight Club! BUT, it’s now on my list! Thanks! Even if you had, you couldn't talk about it anyway (I've also not seen it, but I do know that aspect of it ). Cheers.
