With DL's slow re-rollout of APs, it seems like we're approaching the same paradigm as season tickets for popular sports teams. As demand spikes and Disney limits their supply, I don't think it's unreasonable to envision people having to get on a multi-year waiting list for their turn to become an AP holder!

The big news today that annual pass sales will resume makes this a much easier decision!
I picked up an AP for US to use next week. DD and I will be in FL for a week for her spring break. The first half will be Disney & second half will be US. Unless she really surprises me, I will let my current Disney AP expire in mid-April and pick up a US AP for DD. We will go to Disney again, but taking a year or two off makes more financial sense for us right now.
It is great to see Disney offering APs again. That's a real reason to hang onto DVC in my opinion.

Well, I opted to let my Disney AP lapse. DD had fun at Universal and we both picked up APs there for this year. Her BFF from OK, a huge Harry Potter fan, is coming to stay with us this summer. I plan to take the girls down for a few days at UO in early June. They will have fun at the parks. We may squeeze a quick trip over to Disney one night for dinner and fireworks just because.
We will get APs from Disney again sometime in the future, just not this year. It was a notable relief to have the communication come from Disney that APs would go on sell again before mine lapsed.

I've heard WDW called an 'old folks' theme park and I have to admit that I started thinking this about 10 years ago. We were standing in line for TOT and I said I wonder how many of the people in this line know the Twilight Zone. Back in the 90's Dan and I were thrilled with Fort Wilderness but our kids had no idea who Davy Crockett or Daniel Boone were. They liked we were staying in trailer's like GMom's. For the younger tween, teen and 20's crowd Universal is a much more 'current' experience.

As one who cannot handle scary I'm only familiar with the name and not much else. Rides like Tron look cool even though they are only vaguely familiar with the movies. RnR music is still relevant too. While GnR my kid is singing a medley of music of theirs in choir. Still same time frame of fame. Davey Crockett song they knew. Daniel boone is not though. I think this is why we are getting Tron and GotG.

Amazing to hear teens are familiar with ToT and Davey Crockett (!!). Have to admit I had to go look up AeroSmith. I was having kids in the 80's so am not knowledgeable of that pop culture. My kids (seems disrespectful to call them kids but, to me, that's what they are ) usually explain it to me and find examples on their phones. I know a lot of the music, just not who's singing. LOL Explains why the lines are so long

Even with all the changes and price increase I still believe in the annual pass. Of course you needed to visit enough to make it worth your while. Oh, and still waiting on "Tables of Wonderland".

I like both WDW and UO. Of course, I also like SeaWorld and Legoland and event Six Flags, so probably most accurate to say I really enjoy theme parks. In an ideal world, I'd have APs to all parks, all the time as well as the time and money to basically live in the different parks.
So we went with UO this year, somewhat for cost and somewhat because that's what DD age 12 said she wanted.
ARGH! We were planning the trip with DD and her BFF for June this morning. DD casually mentions that UO is great but that Disney is better. In retrospect, now she thinks 1-2 days at UO would have been fine and we should have done Disney APs this year.
Kids. Gotta love them.

For the younger tween, teen and 20's crowd Universal is a much more 'current' experience. Because tweens so relate to Betty Boop, Popeye, and Dudley Do-Right... Both parks have aging properties. Some age well, others not so much. Disney stays on top of removing older concepts -- maybe too much! No one likes when Splash Mountain or the Country Bears get replaced. Universal needs to do a little cleanup of its dated parts cuz once you go to that side of the park it's like you're at a Six Flags in the 80's. In retrospect, now she thinks 1-2 days at UO would have been fine and we should have done Disney APs this year. If you do Disney a lot then anything different will seem exciting... until you do them and then it's clear again why you do Disney a lot. I love all theme parks and am a kid at heart... but Disney is a vacation. Epic coming to Universal will be interesting. A lot of good brands going in there!

Because tweens so relate to Betty Boop, Popeye, and Dudley Do-Right... This reminds me, I was watching a guy break down "Operator" by Jim Croce...awesome song...but he said that young people have a hard time relating to the song because of the lyrics, he talks about an "operator", a "matchbook", and a "dime". Those things may not mean much anymore but I don't think that's why the young people aren't listening to folk songs from 1972. Speaking of Betty Boop, she was in Who Framed Roger Rabbit! But now that I think about it, many tweens probably have no idea what THAT is, either.

Even ScoobyDo, Woody Woodpecker…my DD (13) has never seen the Simpsons either. ET, Jaws, Back to the Future. Man…I suddenly feel like I am failing her.
