Before the days of "park reservations" we would wake up in the morning and say, "Where do you want to go today?" and the answer usually was based on which eatery was in our heads that moment. And when I say "wake up in the morning" I mean 9am or 10am, then sometimes it wouldn't be until 2pm or later, if we went to the pool. Last time we went...same thing! With the slight alteration of at 11am, using the app to see which park had shortest wait times, then changing our park reservation to that park. Did you ever play bus roulette? We were also able to do last minute lunch plans. I had grand plans for this trip but health issues within our party messed some of it up. I'm glad we made more last minute choices. We're going to have to rethink future trips.

This tells me they weren't selling much G+ at Animal Kingdom and there wasn't one price that made sense for all 4 parks. Really the other 3 parks should be more like $25, and AK maybe $15. The only reason we buy it on our AK days is to stack later in the day! I think we easily rode everything we wanted to at AK just by rope dropping. So… question. If you are park hoping, Can you buy genie plus for the second park? Maybe? Because that would save us a few bucks occasionally. We plan because we have to. If I knew that we could get sit down dinner or lunch at a place I want to eat at, I would stop doing dinning reservations. But so many of them you just can’t! But I”m so glad that it’s only 60 days out now. I think we’ll always have a plan for the park we’re going to on a day. It just helps us to think about what order we want to ride rides, and more importantly, what time we need to be heading to the bus / skyliner / whatever. I”m going to echo mco. We only got 3 rides with fast pass. With genie plus, we might only get 3 rides, but they’re so much more convenient and targeted (like between 2pm and 4:30pm. Often, we can get 4-5, but we’re not park commandos, we leave early. If we could close out the park, we’d probably get more. It’s so much easier to start stacking rides for 2pm and later, so if you show up late and stay late you can get so many more rides. Ehhh.. when the kids are older. DD won’t want to get out of bed

Did you ever play bus roulette? I don't know that we ever did, but we did often change our minds at the bus stop if we noticed there was a huge party with ill-behaved children going to the park we wanted to go - we would just sit while they boarded and then say, "How about Hollywood?" Or a couple times waiting for what seemed like an eternity for the bus going to wherever you wanted to go, and saying "hell with this" and getting on a different bus instead.

I hate genie plus. Wish disney offered free genie plus to onisght guests like universal does. Oh well. Just more confusion. I do as well, but the issue is that they have too many hotels, even too many Deluxe hotels, so the system gets bogged down. With that said, I love the Universal system, where if you have it, you just go through the line with no planning.

It gets even “better”. Seemingly, according to Len Testa of Touring Plans, there was no IT budget for any in-app changes. So if you buy it for MK and then decide you want to park hop, even though it’s the same price you will have to go to GS to get it upgraded. I assume they’re hoping to gain from guests leaving money on the table by not queuing to get a partial refund if they add G+ for a second park. Would the system even let you buy Genie + for another park while you already have one if you did not buy the park hopper Genie +? I understand having to go to Guest Services to add it, but I do not understand where the partial refund comes in.

I'm thinking ppl are making this way more complicated than it is with the changing the mind, adding differences if you change parks, etc. I'm guessing it's basic. You pick a park and buy G+. If you want to hop, you buy the hopper for a few $'s more. If you change your mind and want to cancel and book a hopper, you'll probably have to visit a blue umbrella for them to do a work-around. That would not be a normal activity and would be them doing a favor to help you fix your error, which they're always happy to do. We only got 3 rides with fast pass. With genie plus, we might only get 3 rides, but they’re so much more convenient and targeted (like between 2pm and 4:30pm. Often, we can get 4-5, but we’re not park commandos. That's what G+ is meant for -- make the guest experience better for a few rides -- not enable them to ride 20. It does a good job of preventing ppl from doing the same ride many times in a day, which was a problem with FP+. You can pick out the 3 useful rides at each park in about 10 seconds and everything else you don't need G+ to do. At EPCOT you'll use it on Test Track, Soarin and Frozen. That's it. Sure you can use it on Spaceship Earth or Mission Space but it's not hard to ride anything else at EPCOT without G+.

This, and if you don't ride Frozen, you can do most of Epcot with no G+ if you are rope droppers. I try not to let my head go to analyzing whether I love or hate it, is it fair/unfair, etc. It is what it is, and my only control over it is my decision to use it or not. We look at each park (the day before), discuss what we want to ride, then we can decide if using G+ will be beneficial (i.e. cut down on long waits, maybe allow for an extra ride or two). Recently, we've used ILL in AK and not G+, because we can ride FoP via ILL, do Everest and maybe Dinosaur at rope drop, then the safari. We've done our favorites, and the rest of the morning, until lunch, is pretty relaxing. We do the animal trails, maybe see the bird show or ITTBAB. Early lunch and it's resort pool time. In MK we are a little more aggressive, using G+ to get aa lot of rides done because it's the park with the most rides. Sometimes, after we've done our favorites, we do "roulette" where whatever LL is available the soonest, we ride it. On a less than very crowded day, we can ride Buzz, Dumbo, Mermaid, Barnstormer, etc. almost back to back with no wait.

I don't like this change. As looks like a way to price gouge parks.
also annoying for us UK folk. As we have to buy 14 day tickets. They are hopper so can access any park.So all park access was useful.
We still need to make reservations. Last year I had Genie on my ticket for the whole 2 weeks as could pre buy it. Was about $7 a day.
I had just finished my plans for August this year and now have to think about this change. Thanks Disney.

I understand having to go to Guest Services to add it, but I do not understand where the partial refund comes in. If in the morning you buy G+ for DHS and then decide that you’ll hop over to MK for the afternoon, you would pay twice. Since there is no upgrade option your only choice would be either to go to GS before starting to stack G+ rides at MK or just buy it for MK and visit GS afterwards. Let’s say DHS is $23 and MK is $27, you’ve now paid $50. If that was me I would want a refund of $23 since the 4-park option would have been $27. Whereas if you had planned to hop to MK that day, you could have just paid $27 for all 4 parks when you bought it. To answer your first question, I assume MDE would only allow you to buy it twice if you have a park hopper or AP. But since there was virtually no IT budget for this, hence the lack of an upgrade option, who knows if that is the case.

I agree with these thoughts. It is what is it is. Like all similar changes in the greater travel industry, learn what it is and find out how to make it work for you, including not using it. We have yet to use, or need it. I realize that others do want/need it. In that case, it seems best to figure out how to make it work rather than complaining, which ain't gonna do nothing. For us, it's an irrelevance, so I don't need to game it. Cheers.
