Today was another incredible day. DW were awake relatively early so we decided to wander the alleys of Asakusa before the kids woke up and the throngs of tourists descended on the area.
As you may have noticed, it’s a very picturesque area. A lot of tourists and locals alike will rent kimonos to walk around and take pictures. It’s amazingly beautiful.
The streets are peaceful in the morning. Starbucks are now plentiful in Japan. I tried in vain to order a coffee with oat milk. The barrista asked, “latte with oat milk?” “No,” I said. “Drip coffee with oat milk”. “Ah” she said as she proceeded to hand me a black coffee. “Oat Milk?” I said. “Ice Milk?” She countered. Never mind, I then just asked for cream in Japanese and received two creamer packets. Part of the fun in traveling is trying something and seeing what happens. That is how I happened upon a hidden Ninja bar this evening.
There is a small, old amusement park near where we are staying. It is so random. Outside of that is a lively during area called “Hoppy Street”. It was an area that sprung up after WW2. For some reason they could not brew beer so they made a beer substitute called Hoppy which is served with alcohol that is added. Haven’t tried it yet but hope to this trip. Hoppy Street was hopping we we walked by early in the evening.
This afternoon we went to meet friends in Shibuya. These are friends my father made nearly 40 years ago when he was here teaching English. He can’t make the trip anymore due to health reasons so it was a bit emotional for one of his old friends that realizes she may never see him again.
We had the most amazing lunch overlooking Shibuya. My older son stayed behind because he was panicking about an assignment for his summer class which left us with just the two younger kids who are pickier eaters. They were troopers though and powered through a set course meal that was pretty heavy on fish. I thought the food was amazing but DD16 and DS14 just grinned and beared it but at least tried a bit of everything. Even the tiny whole fish with beady eyes.

Then I saw "raisin butter" and after a little research, I'm thinking I might have to make some of this.
