Another vote for GMS. DW used them last trip to WDW and service was great as was the equipment. Would use them again without hesitation.

I have never left the scooter in the hall to charge but we typically have a 1 or 2 bedroom. Bring a three prong extension cord with you. I leave it behind the seat where I also leave the scooter charger. This gives you some additional flexibility of plugging it in the room. There is a lever on the back of the scooter that disengages the drive wheels so the scooter can be easily rolled. This is how Disney folks move your scooters in the park if they are in the way. Second, my understanding is that all the keys for the scooters (at least from a single rental company) are the same. Imagine the logistical nightmare if every scooter had its own key. Both of these make it easy for a scooter to be "scooter jacked". The other thing I do is bring a retracting key ring such as this one on Amazon. Retracting key ring I snap one end to my belt and the scooter key on the ring. This way I do not forget to take the key with me when I get off the scooter in the park, resort, etc. You might want to get some ribbon, a tag or a goofy plastic toy ( Rubber hamster) to make it easy to differentiate your scooter from a sea of similar scooters parked by a ride at Disney. Some sort of door stop is also helpful if you end up splitting off from the group (such as going to the room alone) to hold the door so you do not need to use the scooter as a "battering ram" (I have had to do this ) to hold open the heavy Disney room doors. Wedge It

We are going down on 19 Aug, and have rented one for the first time, for my Dad. We went with ScooterBug on a Cast Member's recommendation, so I'll give feedback when we get back.
Not sure if it matters, but we're staying at VGF. I'll comment on whether charging location was anything that we had concerns with.

Second, my understanding is that all the keys for the scooters (at least from a single rental company) are the same. This is how it is with riding mowers, too, at least residential grade ones - the key is mostly to stop something like a little kid from getting on and zoom. You can go to the store and buy a generic "key" that works for most mowers. And actually most of the residential-grade mowers are made by two companies, I've had both and the keys from one work in the other. Also some house keys and some car keys but it's not a guarantee and screwdrivers weren't working.

I use ScooterBug mainly because of the ease of having it at the resort before we get there and dropping it off at bell services. Their scooters are pretty beat up, I keep hoping they upgrade their fleet soon. There have been a couple of issues, one time the scooter would not hold a charge, another time the key was very bent and would fail to start the scooter, both were promptly replaced. The 20% DVC discount is nice.
I always park it in the room overnight but confess to leaving it in the hall for short periods of time if we are in and out. Won’t leave it if there are housekeeping carts out. I bought one of the Wedge door stops on a recommendation from you guys, great product.

I also bring a gallon zip lock bag. I put the scooter charger in there and put that in the pocket behind the seat. That way, if I do get caught in a sudden downpour at Disney ( ) the charger doesn't get ruined. These items are typically added to my list after a trip after I wished I had brought xyz.

I highly recommend Gold Mobility Scooters. They come with a cell phone holder and a fan. Their minimum rental is a week though. If I am here less than a week, I go with Scooterbug, but I much prefer Gold. And I rent one about once a quarter.
