Hmmm. I forget how to write these. “It was awesome, except the pool bar was closed and the food sucked.” Sufficient? Probably not, but I’ve got jet lag from hell and am not up for writing much. But I’d be more than happy to answer any questions.
Why? I was going to HK and had points to use. Yes, it was a horribly inefficient use of points. Yes I could have rented out my points and paid cash. But that’s not why I joined DVC.
Booking? I got the guest service phone rep for “using points at an overseas Disney resort” and she was excited because she had never done a HK booking before. I get the impression HK is not a common use of points. The systems don’t speak to each other. You give them a credit card number for the $95 fee. You put in a request, they fax it to HK. In a day or two you get an email with confirmation and your card gets charged and points deducted.
Getting to Hong Kong? It’s far. This time of year it’s exactly 12 hours off, so I didn’t even have to adjust my watch.
TO be continued.

I imagine the heat and humidity there this time of year was brutal. I went once in early July and it was a sauna. Did not make it to HKDL though. We had a trip planned for spring break 2020 but then Covid hit. Not sure when we’ll try again.

I imagine the heat and humidity there this time of year was brutal. They call it monsoon season for a reason. It sucks. But then again, ever been to Orlando in August? Quick HKDL tip: Don’t go during Monsoon season.

Continued:
Getting to resort by cab? $20 from the airport. $40 from the heart of town. Uber about the same, but cabs are ubiquitous and clean so either option is fine. (Note, I’ll put all prices in USD)
Getting to resort by public transit? HK has a great metro system with a stop right at the park’s transportation hub. (Side note, even if you’ve never been to HKDL before, you’ll feel at home the second you hit the transportation hub. Even if no one says Welcome Home. Lots of feelings of deja vu while at HKDL). It takes about an hour, hour 15 to get from hotel room to a location in downtown HK. It’s a clean and efficient system, but you generally need several transfers. Cabs are faster. The metro trains that go to the resort are part of the metro system, but are heavily themed and a must see.
Getting from hotel to park/metro stop? Bus system gets an A++. At most a couple minute wait. It’s a smooth 5-minute ride (only one traffic light). Dedicated buses for each hotel except very early and very late. A mix of busses but most are like the old Magic Express busses. The only time there’s a lineup is at park close and I really like that they have a swarm of cast members at the bus stop then to help out. Technically you can walk to the hotels - it’s 10-20 minutes depending upon hotel. But see post above re monsoon season. I didn’t see a single walker the entire time I was there.
To be continued.

I take fewer and fewer pictures as I get older. Anyone else? But I’ve got a few. Just gotta figure out the best way to get them off my iPhone. Pretty sure last time I posted I had a flip phone, used a camera to take pictures and stored them on GeoCities or something (OK, it hadn’t been that long. Has it?)

I take fewer and fewer pictures as I get older. Anyone else? You know....this has been a trend for me the past few years. My phone is full of food pics and my grandsons.....that's it. Why, I dunno....more living, less picture taking maybe?
