Pretty sure our last stay was 3 nights in Jan 2018. We've only had like 3 other stays prior to the last. Even though we owned at OKW originally (since resold). We love these things about OKW: parking right by villa, Gurgling Suitcase, busing trick (get on at HH stop and then coming back, get off at 1st stop near HH), size and layout of the 1BR/2BR, low point cost. Having the boat to DS is nice, not as great as walking from SSR, but still a nice option. So, I booked OKW for this past Friday night. Booked last minute (like 5 days prior). Booked just the 1 night in a studio. We were meeting friends at Epcot. I did the online check in and asked for room ready early. The husband had to work until 2pm. I took doggo to board at vet. We left around 1:50pm and arrived to OKW around 2:10. Kept getting the 'room's not quite ready yet' texts. So we parked at HH and went to the bar (GS) and had some beers and nachos while we waited. ALso were waiting for our friends as I put their name on our room so they could park and ride bus with us to Epcot. We got room number text around 2:40pm. It was in Turtle Pond section and #3526. We closed out and drove over. I must say the room was dingey(sp). Seemed very outdated, sparse and run down. I was reminded how I hate the blinds there when I closed them later in the evening (pulling the beaded cord). Those suckers have got to go. Then, since we were still waiting for our friends (they texted they were waiting at their off site hotel for their room), we wanted to open a bottle of wine I brought. Well, there was no corkscrew (luckily I had one in the car). And only 2 paper cups and 2 little plastic cups and a couple paper bowls and plates. Later I'd notice the room was hot and wouldn't cool to the 72 I'd set at. Then the next morning we woke to it feeling like 65 in there. But, the thing I did like was the pond view. And having the 2 real beds so DH and I each got our own was nice. Overall, not chomping at the bit to book again. We prefer RR, SSR, AKV and CCV as our preference and pretty much in that order. We'll book BWV but I feel that's dated too. BCV, we'd book but it's not usually available. I do 1-2 nights in a studio each month we are in FL and often change dates/plans so I book last minute a lot. I always grab things at 7 months but usually change a couple times before the date. Every now and then we book BLT or Poly or VGF but we're not MK people so we won't likely book those much if ever. Since we got the house down here and have been doing the 1-2 night stays every month we are down here, I wanted to kinda try different things and check out all the resorts but we've been doing this a while now (1-2 years) so we got it down to what we really like. We like AKV for club level and because it's closest to our house (and AK is our #2 park to visit). We like SSR for the new rooms with murphy beds and walkability to DS as well as the fact it's always easy to book. We like CCV as our MK resort since it's more calm and quiet there, IMO. We love the Geyser Point and the lovely rooms. We have some points there too (and at AKV). Now, RR is my fave. It is so new and pretty. We love the skyliner and Bar Riva. SO funny, too, because I was a strong opponent of that Skyliner but, boy, do I love it. Also nice to be able to walk to the Banana bar at CBR. Photos: ugly carpet and chair mismatch headboards don't touch floor by kitchenette (looks like BWV hallways) view the dumb cord blinds

Nice summary, thanks for sharing. Not my favorite resort either but of course I'll always take what I can get.

I think OKWs studios are weirdly set up too. I love OKW in 1 beds and above though. The rooms feel much nicer.

I hate those beaded cords too.
And Why don’t they put a trash bag in the trash can? BWV uses trash can bags.
That said. We like OKW a lot. It’s very peaceful and the rooms are a nice size.

We love, love, love OKW. But you are not wrong about the beaded chain thing. I usually figure out how to get into a two-handed rhythm with them, but they still suck.
You look like you got the illustrious "no front window" room - we got one of those one time and made some calls and got moved. Didn't like it.
Re: the thermostats: they are in some sort of energy-saving mode all the time. User (you) sets a value, the screen displays that value to placate the user, and then it does what it wants, including - but not limited to - not running if it doesn't detect movement in the room. A google search of the thermostat model (SensorStat or something, as I recall) and the word "override" or "bypass" usually turns up a couple of tricks to put it into "bypass" or technician mode. It will show "bP" on the screen for "bypass" but it expires after 24 hours and I sometimes feel like it fails randomly.
Funny about the corkscrew, we've always had one, I guess you got lucky.

I never done a studio we were always 2 bedroom and now DH and I will do a 1 bedroom. Had a studio many years ago with a 2 bed for DD and her BF before the refurb. Never really thought about the beaded pull down for the shades, hmm…. Personally I liked the original coverings on the balcony doors and windows, which were 2 “ slate maybe 2 1/2” wooden blinds. I think it fit the more tropical OKW feel versus heavy fabric Roman shades. The bedrooms still had fabric room darkening curtains you can pull close at night.

I have never stayed at OKW and those pictures of that “Deluxe” DVC … looks worse than Motel 6 … So outdated TV and furniture…what’s up with the pretend fake headboards that look like they are just attached to the wall and the legs don’t actually touch the floor ? I guess that is Dis for disgusting .Disney Vacation Club … I think I would be depressed if I was staying in that room. Try to sell that deluxe membership to friends or family …No thank you. I still own at BLT but glad I-sold all of my other DVC memberships .

I love the space and that porch!! You had a nice water view. I feel we need a car to stay there, which we never have. I’ll probably feel the same after we stay at SSR but I like SSR proximity better. At least we could walk to Disney Springs. Thanks for posting.

I think OKWs studios are weirdly set up too. I love OKW in 1 beds and above though. The rooms feel much nicer. Love the 1BRs there too. The studio felt like a well loved holiday inn or something. I hate those beaded cords too. And Why don’t they put a trash bag in the trash can? BWV uses trash can bags. That said. We like OKW a lot. It’s very peaceful and the rooms are a nice size. It bugs me too that they don't use trash bags. I have noticed that somewhere else too. Can't remember where. Maybe Riviera. I agree, it is very peaceful. Aside from the time we stayed in HH section in that one building on the corner and the bus noise was bad there. But the back patio was nice and peaceful. We stayed in a 1 bedroom last uear. Loved the space, but hated the window shades. Agreed! I hope they change those shades out with next renovation (think they are about to be renovated, no?). We love, love, love OKW. But you are not wrong about the beaded chain thing. I usually figure out how to get into a two-handed rhythm with them, but they still suck. You look like you got the illustrious "no front window" room - we got one of those one time and made some calls and got moved. Didn't like it. We were in like a corner and no front window. I don't notice that at the time. Dumb thermostats. Thanks for the tip. Will try next time. Luckily I had one in my car console from when we lived in PA and went to BYOB (our case, wine) restaurants a lot. I never done a studio we were always 2 bedroom and now DH and I will do a 1 bedroom. Had a studio many years ago with a 2 bed for DD and her BF before the refurb. Never really thought about the beaded pull down for the shades, hmm…. I think it fit the more tropical OKW feel versus heavy fabric Roman shades. The bedrooms still had fabric room darkening curtains you can pull close at night. It needs the wooden slat blinds or the shutter type would be most ideal. Hope they read this thread. LOL. I still own at BLT but glad I-sold all of my other DVC memberships . The dresser was all dinged up too. Those dark wood pieces show so much wear and tear easily. Yes, the headboards were screwed to the wall and not actually resting on the floor. How hard was it to find actual platform beds that worked?!?!? LOL. I love the space and that porch!! You had a nice water view. I feel we need a car to stay there, which we never have. I’ll probably feel the same after we stay at SSR but I like SSR proximity better. At least we could walk to Disney Springs. Thanks for posting. We now have a car when we go so places like OKW and SSR are way more doable. And it's nice to park right at the building and be able to run to the car for things more easily than, say, BWV...like a corkscrew. Thanks, everyone, for following.

Great summary!
We had no trash bags back in March at BCV. I was not sure if it was a one time thing or they were doing away with them. I prefer to have a bag/clean can. My son staying at Kidani had them.

We just stayed there for 1 studio night in July for the AK DVC party and found much of the same issues. My daughter was complaining about that cord too. I thought, "it can't be that bad". It's that bad! I was hoping to like it more with a car this time than in 2002 for 10 nights without a car. I found parking in the lot by our building a challenge. We were in Building 19 which is over near the cast member/backstage area and finally got a spot when two cm's moved their cars. It was fine for one night but will probably look elsewhere for another 1 or 2 night stay. We also found out that even on your check-out day you qualify for evening extra magic hours. We ended up not going as our other daughter had just arrived that day but could see that we could reserve the 6pm drop for Tron.

Our original stay at OKW in 2001 convinced us DVC was not for us. LOL. Didn't like the studio layout (Poly's room seemed just as big), didn't like the location, and didn't like the 'counter service' bar/snack area. We stayed there on DVC points in 2010 and DH was still not impressed, although it was a non-Disney park vacation and our eldest drove over from Tampa so she parked right outside the room.
