And now they have introduced Magic bands on Disney Cruiseline. I wonder if they will also work at the Disney resorts? Personally I doubt it. The Cruise app is different and I’m guessing their magic bands will only work with the DCL app.

Our last two cruises all CM's asked for was the cabin number. They didn't seem to care if I gave them the key card. DH and BIL said it was because our faces come up with the cabin number. My guess is they're moving onto facial recognition. I think the MB's are just another souvenir because the keycard is needed to turn on the room.

Definitely a positive way to reduce waste, even though I know that's not their intent. Given that a MB will work for doors forever, I see no reason to ever have more than one. Well, two as I did get one of the new, more comfortable, style when they came out. Still, the original, from almost a decade ago, still works. So, can just use v.2 forever. Or for the next 19 years, whichever comes first. Cheers. The article wasn’t about magic bands, it was about the room cards, by which I assume they are the key to the world cards. If someone doesn’t have a magic band they should be able to get one of these. As for magic bands, you won’t get ride videos with an old one. That may not be important when you’ve been many times but it often is for families and less frequent visitors. Right. But I assume that a room key would also not get ride videos (or do they?). If not, then they are no different from an old magic band. So, anyone who would ust a room key could just reuse an old magic band and avoid the waste. This is separate from the "new magic band for videos" discussion.
Cheers.

Your point, if I understood it correctly, is this was a good move to reduce waste, and you’d just use an old magic band instead. I was saying that not everyone has an old magic band, or remembers to bring it with them. The video thing was an aside. You do get the ride videos with them. You do need to scan to get the photos and videos and they’re not automatically delivered to your MDE account. If you forget or there is no scan point you can contact Disney to get them.

I was saying that not everyone has an old magic band, or remembers to bring it with them. I understand your point. Anything tat has the potential to reduce plastic waste, even if that is not the intended goal, is a good thing, IMO. Anything to make it harder to get these disposable items and encourage people to use other methods (MB, phone) is a good thing. If people really turned these in and they could be reused, it would be less of an issue. Pretty sure that, on the whole, people don't.
I realize that this is not an ultimate solution. I just applaud anything with the potential to reduce plastic waste given the shithole that this planet has fallen into due to human abuse.
Anyway, not everyone (or anyone here ) needs to agree.
Cheers.
