$100 card hold for a DVC stay? Checking in today at Kidani and noticed a $100 charge. Was told it was a card hold for incidentals. Have never had this happen. Is this new or just new to me?

Just new to you. It was introduced several years ago, pre-Covid, to stop people running up their room charges and then the card being declined. It applies across all resorts. Once you run up $100 on room charges they put another hold on the card. You can stop that by paying down the charges when you are near to that amount.

Be aware the $100 holds they put on take a few days to drop off. Pre-Covid we had an incident where all our charges plus multiple $100 holds were on our credit cards plus a glitch on Disneys side that had doubled all our charges and $100 holds. Needless to say having a card charged 4 times the actual amount spent did not sit right with my DH and I as we were 6 weeks from closing on our new house. When we spoke to a CM at the front desk the day before check out about correcting the issue his response to tell us that it should be corrected within 7-10 business days. I asked what if they pulled our credit again and saw this massive charge? We were there for two weeks and use to charge everything back to our Magic Bands. He just shrugged. When I asked what would I do if it maxed out my credit card and I couldn’t purchase food for the last two days of my trip he suggested DH and I get an American Express card since they do not have a limit.
It was so frustrating I wrote an email to the hotel manager while in the airport two days later and got a lengthy apology back. This past June was the first time I went back to that resort as it really soured our feelings after how the CM was. I get it if you can’t do anything about it but your lack of care for my families situation and your suggestion to get an AmEx card was condescending. Clearly all these years later it still rubs me wrong.

We have always this could happen for a number of years. I will say I never really looked to see if it actually does happen. But this is standard. I will say that this is why I would only use credit cards and not debit too.

We've had this as well. WHen we exceed $100, they add another hold. Very standard for hotels, rental cars. Never a problem, and never materializes as a real charge unless we actually charge something.
Cheers.

Hello everyone, Unfortunately this has been going on for sometime now. Be thankful it is only $100. It use to be alot higher depending on your amount of days you are there. Also keep in mind that if your stay is for more than one reservation (sometimes if even linked), you will get $100 charge taken out for each one. All will depending on your charging.

Yep when I rent a car, it's $400!
I have also experienced the $100 "hold" for years now. We charge a lot to our room/MagicBand so it frequently gets "refreshed" as we spend during our trips.

Thanks everyone! We have been coming since we bought DVC in 2015 and never had them put a hold on a card before. We typically pay as we go as well but put a card on file for the direct to room check in. I was concerned about the situation Disneyspaz describes above and wondered if this was going to happen to us when I had seen the charge. Had our credit card info stolen in WDW before and it was a pain to get resolved.

When we have checked in online we have had to put a credit card on file. When we have done that we have gotten the $100 charge/hold on our card but for numerous days. They keep adding the charge daily even though we don't charge anything to the room. It doesn't really affect us but I find it annoying.

capeokw56 that's weird. We put the credit card on file so we can go straight to our room but we have never had more than the initial $100 charged to our card if we didn't use the Magic Bands to charge back to the room. I will say if we make even 1 small Magic Band charge the additional $100 charges start happening.
When we are there for two weeks we usually spend a lot even eating in the room for at least 1 meal a day. That trip we made true charges around $4000 but Disney had our card charged close to $16,000 right before our home purchase. Even transferring money while on vacation it still left a $12,000 charge that would "fall off" in 7-10 business days. Had it not been so close to our home purchase I don't think it would have been as upsetting but it has kept us from charging back to the room since, minus when my teenage daughter forgets and wants something and we are not there.

I am feeling kind of dumb because I never realized this was happening. We always put a card on file during online check in and we charge on the magic bands. Haven’t had any kind of issue so far and I don’t check on my card balance during a trip. Of course I look at the itemized bill when we get it but have not seen the 100$ hold. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

At least there is a bill to check. Our last cruise the bill was digital and since I didn't check the app fast enough, it disappeared so I have no idea what that $3.11 charged separately was for but I'm still curious. I'm thinking it was some tax or fee they forgot to add to the bill but who knows and apparently no way to access.

Ignorance is bliss like you said. I do remember when they started doing this, though, I remember a huge discussion about it on the group and I think Dirk was very upset about it, maybe I'm wrong about that. But it never caused me any issue.

It has been in place for a while. I have never had issues with the hold.
