Not sure if this is the right area of the forum for this question, just chose chit chat We will likely have a LOT of points after our Oct trip, If APs aren't back, we likely won't be back at Disney until the following fall. I know renting is the best option, but DH is against it completely. (he might consider it for close family.) We're also considering a Hilton Head trip, but I also want to look into exchanging into II. DS really wants to go anywhere but Florida, and if we can somehow use the DVC points/save the cost of lodging, that would be great. Has anyone used II, have any tips on booking? how does one get started with it all? just deposit the points, then look through the II site? Thanks for any info/insights.

I have used II with my Williamsburg independent & Marriott Branson timeshares. Never have enough DVC to deposit.
But anything we have traded so far has been excellent. ( omg the Hyatt Residence house @ Keywest was stunning)

I'm so glad to read your thread, because it means that I'm not the only one who doesn't really understand II-at all! We're thinking of vacationing in some certain areas, and rather than paying for a hotel, we're wondering how many points it would "cost" at different hotels. Can we stay for as many nights as we want? Where do we begin? It's just all so confusing to us. Hoping for some guidance.

Thanks for this thread. We have 190 points in II from a canceled (meaning Southwest canceled our flights) trip last year. I've looked at the II site but find it confusing so any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not understand how to use this trade at all. Is there a particular resort your looking for? Area/location? IMO it’s easier if I have an idea of what I want and do an ongoing search. Again so Out DVC points so this June I will be depositing my other timeshare into (nonDVC account) and placing an OGS for the Marriot near Disneyland Paris- the tricky part is will it match. www.intervalworld.com/web/cs?a=1503&resortCode=MVF#.Y8CMNi1MGf0although II has some really great brands of resort to trade into, it’s definitely not as straightforward as RCI… capeokw56 has it a little easier as the points are already there and should be able to see availability immediately. I kinda cheated and started by picking up a discounted cash stay 1st to get the feel of the website.

I did some research on trading into II to book Maui and read that what you see on the site without depositing points is the "leftovers" and your best chance is to put in an ongoing search. Some questions: 1. How in the world are you supposed to plan for specific dates for airfare if you have no idea what dates will match, if ever? 2. Is there a way to put in an ongoing search without depositing points first? 3. If the answer to question 2 is "no" why would I take the risk of depositing points if there is no guarantee your ongoing search will match for the dates or property you want? 4. Am I missing something or not understanding how this works? Because the way it seems to work right now there is no way I would deposit points in II before knowing I could book what I want for the dates I want.

It’s a little easier to find with the non DVC account- what your looking for is “place request”

It’s somewhat of a crap shoot- 1) place the request as far out as you can and for specific dates 2) I tried to highlight that in the screenshots - they don’t make it easy 3) answered in 2 in can be done 4) I honestly have no intention of depositing DVC - unless something drastic happens…But I have 2 timeshares units that are specifically for trading in interval. The real benefit to DVC in II is the getaways and short stays - my son was leaving work with his buddies in Tampa and wanted to stop in at universal before they headed off…For $ 249 they had 3 nights in a pretty nice full 2bedroom unit.

I did move this to the DVC use section since it's still using DVC. I have nothing else to add though. In all my years of DVC (19) I have never done it.

My 2 cents...
We rented our points during Covid for way more than what we pay for them. I imagine you could easily use the money you get and book a great trip elsewhere. I would rent the points out and use that money to just book a trip you want to go on. Easier than all the hoops you have to jump through to get II and such.
Just a thought.

I dunno I have never had enough points to rent either but I think its important to at least have an understanding of how it works...for me personally its a tool to be used. We had a situation last January where 10 days before a big trip to we were going to have to cancel no time to rent and definitely didn't want 300points in holding. I was fortunate that a family member I love was able to use the reservation but i made sure I got familiar with how the transfer process worked...than the switch happened from RCI to II and I am learning all over again.
