Congratulations! Sounds like you had a wonderful trip!
I have 9 months to go until I retire. A celebration trip sounds like a good idea.
Thanks for sharing!

Congrats on your retirement! You are living my dream. Another 4 or 5 years to go for me. Though I'll have to retire in a different month because there is no way I can stand the heat of Orlando in September.

Not a weirdo, just made me melt even more, and I love the heat. But do you have the hood up when standing in line, in direct sun? No hood up for me. Never really do as it blocks hearing. But I will have my icy cold hands covered lol Funny thing was when it was 95 out and super sunny, about 2pm waiting by the boat dock, my son said something like "mama, you're making me hot" just by him looking at me. I took the hoodie off and he felt my arm and was like "you're not even warm" I just run cold I guess I get that, some people just run cold as you say, or come from a very hot environment. My confusion was that the majority of those I was speaking of were in their 20s or 30s - I guess, in the immortal words of Fernando, It's better to look good than to feel good (if an SNL or Billy Crystal fan you will get this).

Congrats!!! I am now 9 months retired. My problem is now I have toooo much time to plan trips. My husband says if I book one more cruise I have to go back to work LOL Buying Disney points doesn’t count as a cruise…LOL.. I understand this. We have done 2 trips, have 1 more planed for this year and now a long Ireland/Scotland trip is in the planning for next Spring. I will need a job to pay for all these and the others that are running around in my mind now.

Makes me want to retire but have about 7 years...DH retired and it is rough watching that... It will come. My wife is going to work for 3 or 4 more years - she is 5 years younger than me - and she is already telling me to get out more. Either she doesn't like me not working or I am a PIA.

Congrats! We did something similar for mine. We spent 6 weeks from mid Dec-late Jan in Florida between DVC, airbnbs and hanging at my parent’s place in FL. The kids joined us for two different parts of the trip. It was a great celebration. It also helped us decide where we wanted to live down here. I’ve never looked back and cherish the handful of days in 5 years that I’ve been bored…mostly during torrential rains in hurricane season. Enjoy the new lifestyle! Thanks. I would love to be able to do what you did, it was a dream to snowbird (have I mentioned I am sick of winter in the NE). However, with DW working 3 or 4 more years and other family-related issues I don't see that happening too soon. I already miss FL.

Congrats on your retirement. I'm glad the kids could join you for part of the trip followed by the wife. That sounds like a great way to celebrate. Thank you. The split joining with the kids and DW was perfect as they have different ideas of what is fun and I love both views - I got the best of both worlds on this one.

Congrats on retirement! A celebration to start it sounds perfect! Thank you. My only regret is that I didn't make it 1 more week. We had points backed up and I still ended up banking some from this year.

Congratulations on your retirement! Happy planning with all your free time We are retired but we don't/can't take too much time off since we babysit of the the grandchildren. We did just come back from Italy 2-1/2 weeks!!! As much as I want to add extra days (and we have another long one end of March/early April), I don't like or I am not used to leaving home for so long. My son does come for mail/check on the house/pool, etc. I need to get used to being away for long periods. Enjoy!! Thank you. It sounds like you are using your vacation time perfectly - 2 1/2 weeks in Italy sounds wonderful.

While September is, and was for my trip, very hot, I still totally enjoyed every minute of my new-found freedom.
