Team, I need some help.
I have convinced myself that I would be possible to fit in a cheeky week trip to WDW for Christmas. Arriving on the 16th for a week. So getting back to the UK just before Christmas.
My partners a teacher and we have no children so have a little bit of time for once as Schools in the UK break up a week or so before Christmas this year.
We had 14 nights onsite plus a cruise in the summer. (still financially recovering from too many cocktails) We would be looking to possibly only go to the parks for a Christmas Party. Maybe a 1 day ticket if not. UK tickets are priced the same for 7 days or 14 days. So makes no sense to get one.
would like to see it snoap on main street.
Spending the rest of the time doing our favourite activity of resort hopping (I still need to drive a boat on bay lake) and just enjoying WDW at Christmas.
know its going to be painful busy so another thing to consider.
Flight are not an issue as weirdly availability of reward flights is high.
But hotel wise would you.
A) Stay off site B) Hope for a late DVC confirmed reservation at an attractive price C) stay in a value resort
Am I being completely stupid and should stop thinking about even looking or just play the waiting game and see if something becomes available. Could wait until a few weeks before if needs be.
Any advice would be great.

For a short, sort of spontaneous trip I'd choose a value resort. You'd get early park entry and transportation to/from the parks.
I think this sounds like fun.
We once booked a trip as we were driving the kids to spend a week with their grandparents; booked on Saturday, trip was Wednesday-Saturday, picked the kids up on Sunday. Used airline miles for flights, stayed at Pop using AP discount. And another spontaneous trip when I found $28 one way flights, bought them then scrambled to find a room.

I would book the value resort and then put in a 7 day waitlist at SSR. Rooms tend to open up if people cancel, then stalk the site. Sounds like a fun trip, hope you can make it happen.

Go for it! If you stay at a value like Pop, it makes for a perfect opportunity to do a Skyliner crawl. DH and I did that during our last trip and had a blast. Stopped at Carribean Beach, Riviera and Beach Club for cocktails and snacks One other thought, last year we weren't able to get 2 nights through DVC and used our Hilton points at one of the hotels by Disney Springs. It was a "Good Neighbor" hotel so it came with the Disney perks and there was bridge we could use to walk directly over to the Springs. It was a great location.

would like to see it snow on main street. So.....Snow on Main Street is nice, but before Christmas, But it only snows on the nights of the MVMCP.
The 16-23 will not be that busy, nothing like a week later after Christmas.
For Hotel, it comes down to either cost, experience or convenience. Off-Site is cheaper but you will need transportation. DVC is great, if you have the points. Not a fan of value resorts, I would check Moderate pricing at Coronado Springs. For me, its onsite reservations all the way.

Yeah unfortuantely snow is for the parties, but maybe one could linger and see it as you are leaving the party? I don't remember when the snow starts.
Personally, I tend to look at Swan & Dolphin first. Then I look at moderates - Destino tower is nice. Then Disney Springs hotels. Off site is meh and I'm n ot a fan of the values.

We would plan to go to one of the Christmas parties. I believe normally the parade comes to normal days from the 23rd-25th. So would just miss that.
I guess what I need is something to give in price. If their is a reward seat sale or get a good deal on a hotel I could than justify the trip.
I acauly allways forget about some of the close off site hotels like S&D

Ain't that the truth! I would also recommend Swan or Dolphin, both are lovely and the price not too bad. Or try one of the DVC rental groups, and see if you can snag something.

Do it! Several of our schools won’t be out for the Christmas holiday until the 20th-22nd. So that week might not be as horrible as it could be. The values would be fine, especially if you used Disney transportation to see the decorations at the other resorts. It actually sounds like a relaxing, slower paced trip. Enjoy!

Personally,
I avoid staying off site like the plague, and the value resorts like covid….
i have had very good luck at POFQ, and have heard great things about Coronado …
Swan and company have been rather expensive lately, to the point I would look at a deluxe resort first, some nights
i think I would look they and look for a last minute DVC cancel

DD went this week once on a solo trip. She said it wasn’t busy and she could tell at the end on Saturday the crowds had come. She had a blast. I’d do it. Be sure to check if a party is still available or not. I wouldn’t stay off site either. I don’t mind Pop either, but I wouldn’t do All Stars. Check for deals online for resorts, you might find something that’s good at the moderates. Destino Tower is beautiful at Christmas at Coronado. I can kill a lot of time by never being in the parks.

Jollywood Nights is going on that week too. You could see 2 parks that way!

I'm the exception maybe - I like staying off site! A 3 bedroom condo at a nice resort with plenty to do at less than the nightly rate of a value Disney property usually wins for me. But a nice alternative are the non-Disney on-sites that include many of the perks (extra hours) of the Disney properties. Swan/Dolphin for sure. The Hilton Palace at Disney Springs is a personal favorite. I like their location a lot and enjoy the consistency of the Hilton properties, along with the perks of loyalty club membership.
Good luck planning this trip! Sounds like fun.

Ok, maybe an off of center suggestion.
Stay at a Disney Springs Hotel. You are not doing parks so the early entry does not matter.. You still have busses to resorts from Disney Springs and also have all the shopping and food of Disney Springs.
