Well I'm sitting here at the desk and two unopened envelopes with the super-cute "globe with Mickey Ears" logo are staring me in the face...I didn't open them because I know what they say because we all get them, some get more than others but I happen to get two. They came on separate days this year! So twice I got to open the mailbox and smile at the "globe with Mickey Ears" logo.
So my dues for my two OKW contracts rose to nearly $3,000 this year. So what better time than now, to consider getting more points!
I know OKW has varying interest for different people, and OKW mf's have risen to the top this year because, of course, it's the best. But we are not here to discuss what other points I should buy instead, because the only points we will ever buy is OKW and that's just the way it is for us.
We got a little inheritance from her mom, and she'd like to use it to get more points, like another 100 or maybe a little more. She finds a contract that looks nice, seems to have a nice price (at least for these days). Stripped but I don't mind that, we probably won't be back until 2026 because I borrowed to the max on our other two (I have two points left in 2025 UY). But it's a 2042! I had got it in my head that it would be worth my while to get a 2057. That way, when 2042 comes, I still own at our resort for another 15 years and we can keep going. She argues that we will be 65 years old in 2042 and it probably won't matter, and the 2057 contracts cost more. I argue that when I'm 65 and hopefully both retired, we might be wishing we still had the ability to go. She argues that if that's the case, we could always buy a place like at Margaritaville or something. I say, "well maybe."
The truth is, who can even guess if we will want to still be going in another 20 years. But part of me says that if I DIDN'T get a 2057, I could regret it. But do I want to pay thousands more for that.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I would vote 2057 only if it were my decision - it's the biggest reason we bought at RIV - wanted contracts that didn't expire when we were just likely to be starting retirement like our BVW points

I probably would get 2057 for resale-ability more than anything else.
We also got a decent gift monetarily this year and I was trying to decide how to use it myself. I had money set aside for points but this would keep me from digging in my easy access cushion.

Imagine if you're at 2040, and decide you want the place in Margaritaville.
You could sell a 2057 contract for a decent amount, compared to a 2042 that only has a couple years left on it? Then you'd have some down payment for the Margaritaville place...
Is that worth the extra money today?

I would go for the 2057 contract. We own at BWV, AKV and OKW. Our OKW contracts have the 2057 expiration date. We did that in case our kids want our points when we can't go anymore.
For the record, DH and I are in our mid 60's. We go to Disney 3 or 4 times a year. It's our happy place. We did consider moving to FL when we retire but Maryland is home and we are staying here.
Glad luck with your decision!

Go with 2057. We just added 100 OKW points last year and would only consider 2057. 65 is not that old!! Might be the best time in your life to visit. And, should you find at 66 or 67 that it’s no longer for you, there will still be some resale-able value.

I didn’t buy my contracts until I was in my mid-60s. BRV expire in 42. I am now 75 and am so thankful to have DVC so we can make a couple of trips a year. Have been going to DisneyWorld since it opened. DH doesn’t go often, but my points make it possible for children and grandchildren to go with me to our Happy Place. I will continue to go as often and as long as I can. Being retired makes planning easier, unless as in my case, I still need to work around school schedules.

It just occurred to me that we have to be the same age! I will also be 65 in '42. I wound up eventually picking CCV over BRV in 2022 in part for the expiration date being a bit further out. Apples and oranges, but kind of similar to think about.

I also vote for 2057. DH and I are in our mid-60s and own at AKV and VGC. We go to Disney World 2x and DisneyLand 1x a year and gift our remaining points to family and friends. I had my honeymoon at Disney in 1982! We've gotten older and slowed down a lot. I need a wheelchair to get around most days at Disney now. It is so convenient for us to use the transportation at Disney and the cast members treat us nicely. To us, staying on property is so much easier and convenient than staying off-site so I'm willing to pay the premium.

Another vote for 2057, unless there is some screaming deal on 2042. Age 65 is quite young these days.

I would also do the 2057. It would be nice to have the points to keep going with grandkids.

Another vote for the 2057 points from another OKW-only member (who has rented points to stay at OKW since 2002 before buying in during the pandemic). Reasons being the resale value holding longer so if you decide or reach a point in life where you want/need to sell, you can still get reasonable money as 2042 approaches. Also, if you have reservations about which to buy now and buy that 2042 contract anyway, what will Disney's direct price be to ditch that 2042 contract and get replace it with a 2057 contract in a few years? It's almost certainly won't be cheaper though your 2042 contract will slowly start to go down in value so less buyer's remorse down the road when you realize you should have gotten that 2057 contract.

I'd say go with the 2057 if you can make the cost work. I find I enjoy the resorts more now as I've aged and spend less time in the parks. We have OKW points and it's a wonderful laid back resort that I've come enjoy more now as I want less time in any park.
Always fun to consider more points no matter how many we already have!

Well everybody says 2057! This is what I was thinking. TBH I haven't even looked at prices, I just know she presented me with numbers from a 2042 contract and I said "wait a minute!" Might be hard to convince her to pony up the extra cash. But if it isn't that much more, well that could change things.
Resale as time goes on is an interesting thought. Don't see myself wanting to sell at any time...but who can say I guess.

OKW was our first purchase, we bought resale, and we just love it. As for your concern about age... I'm 67, DW is 60 and we are going strong. We own 2042 points and we are planning on going to WDW for many years to come. We'll be at OKW in April and we are driving the 2,500+ miles from Cape Cod. We are taking our Corvette instead of flying just for the fun. 65 is the new 45! So... yes, you should buy 2057 points if you can afford it.
