Road trip to WDW and other thoughts

We just got home from our 12 day trip to WDW and I thought I'd share some of our experiences.
I've been wanting to take our Corvette on a road trip for a long time and I finally got to do it. It's a 2004 convertible, known as a C5 to corvette folks, and it's amazing how much cargo it can hold. We had our two large suitcases, my golf bag w/ clubs and shoes, my laptop, two toiletry bags, medicine/snacks bag, and various loose shoes, hats, sweatshirts/fleece. When we got to OKW the car was just filthy from the rainstorm on our first travel day and then the road grime from another day and a half. I'm a bit picky about my cars so I wanted to get it washed but I couldn't find a way to get it done because the car washes all use the track system and the vette is too low, it only has 3 1/2 inches of clearance. Not to mention they aren't great for the convertible top. I finally found My Car Guy Orlando and Matt was great! He came to OKW in under an hour and did a beautiful job cleaning the car. He even did the exhaust tips and it was only $50. I highly recommend him if anyone needs their car taken care of while at WDW.
We stayed in a studio at OKW and we were on the third floor in the HH area. I was surprised to find only disposable dishes and silverware. What happened to the real stuff? Our studio was very nice and my only complaint was that the drains did not drain well, they were very slow. It brought back memories of the Great Sewer Back Up when were were there 5 or 6 years ago.
We did get some pixie dust one evening. DW was on the hunt for the Disney Lily Pulitzer dress in her size but all she could find was extra small and extra large. A CM told her that Yacht and Beach Club still had a full selection of sizes. So, we went to HS and got the boat to the Yacht Club where she found her dress. We went out front to catch a bus back to any park and then planned to get another bus back to OKW. The first bus was to MK so we jumped on. We were the only ones on board and struck up a conversation with the driver. Eventually she asked where we were going and we told her OKW. She then asked us what stop and we told her Peninsular and that we walk back to HH area. She said "Let's go!" and took us directly to OKW instead of MK! She really made our evening with her kindness.
We ate at some of our usual restaurants, Le Cellier, Yak and Yeti, Olivia's (3 times), 50's Prime Time and new to us Steakhouse 71. We liked Steakhouse 71 well enough that we would go back there but we prefer Le Cellier.
For football (Patriots) fans, we chatted with a guy in Epcot while waiting for our reservation time at Le Cellier. He was wearing a Patriots hat and reminded us a lot of Gronk and told him so. It turned out that he was actually from Buffalo and worked with Gronk's younger brother and one of his older brothers. He said the entire family is the same as Gronk. What you see is what you get!
We have friends from the Cape who stay in Lady Lake for the winter so it was nice to get together with them for a few days. I've always wanted to play golf at Disney but I didn't want to deal with bringing my own clubs until this trip. Dan and I played golf twice. One of those times was at the Magnolia course in Disney and it was everything that I thought it would be.
We did 4 park days but this was our first time staying at Disney but doing things other than Disney. I have to say that we enjoyed it thoroughly. It was nice waking up in the Disney bubble and then coming back to the bubble at the end of the day. I don't know if we'll ever go to WDW without doing the parks but it's nice to know that we can stay at WDW and do other things and still have a great vacation.
Looking forward to our November trip to BRV and hope I didn't bore you.
