Silent bats or no, the Phil's woke up late in the game. DH doesn't hold out much hope but it was nice that the Phil's made a game/series something to watch.

My theory--first half of the season, opposing pitchers didn't do a good job vs. the Phils. Over the course of the season, they identified the weaknesses of each hitter and were therefore much more successful vs. the Phils big bats in the second half. The Phils rely on the long ball. They don't do well where they need to generate baserunners. Their plate discipline is terrible, swinging at way too many off the plate pitches. As evidenced by the leadoff Schwarber home run and then nothing until the 9th. Wheeler was a monster, though.
DH says the Philly bat's have gone silent. Yup, those bats did very little from 1st to 9th inning.
Then again, Mets had only 1 hit until the 8th.
Cheers.
Apparently the sun was in their eyes (shadows made the ball hard to see until like the 7th inning was the comment) but that doesn't explain the last 2 plus months of inconsistent hitting. John, you are spot on, they appear not to know where the strike zone and just keep expanding it by swinging at everything. Things turned around a bit yesterday but I am not confident the Phills can not get in their own way again. Wheeler is indeed a monster, and he deserves more run support.

Glad to see Schwarber is still hitting those HRs. Home run hitter when he was on my Cubbies.

A few days in and did I think to take any pictures of my first tile experience? I've never liked timed games. Tonight my bucket didn't die until nearly three hours (refrigerated water really works, along with keeping a lid on it) and I'm like "I'm too old for this" Looking at that picture, it seems like I should have been able to easily do the whole thing in three hours...oh well that's why pros get paid the big bucks I guess. Hopefully do the last bit tomorrow and then grout the next day? Maybe.

For backsplash tile it works just as well and you can quit whenever you want.

I saw a reporter in Tampa telling people that if they are staying put, to ensure that they have an axe, water and food stored in their attic, because it's likely that with this storm surge, those people who go into the attic to avoid the rising waters could end up having to get onto their roof.
I really hope that those who can get out will get out.

I really hope that those who can get out will get out. I have a number of people in Tampa that I know and love. A few of them are under the mandatory evacuation areas. They all left. My loved ones more to the north and inland are staying put. One of them intentionally bought the house because it was in a place that does not flood often. She feels fairly confident about staying. She is prepped with food, generator, and such like that. It can actually really vary with what you have to be concerned about depending on where you live. Listen to the people who tell you to evacuate and do so. I think my one friend who is in Gulfport really won't have much to come back to. They were damaged heavily with Helene with where he works. I'm not entirely sure where his place of employment is though.

Well, I WANTED to, but I couldn't get past the fact that the tile manufacturer said this: "Must use a modified thinset. Do not use mastic." I told myself that surely this was because inexperienced people would use mastic in a shower or whatever and then blame the results on the tile manufacturer. But in the end, I said "well, it says not to use mastic." Plus it's good practice for the shower I'm going to have to do someday, right?

There a few types of tile that will/can discolor if you use matic as well. Yours could be one of those I suppose but most likely the caution is for the manufactures CYA.

Mets move on to NLCS against Dodgers or Padres. OMG!
My mother-in-law is a Padres fan (lives in San Diego), so I have a reason to root for them. However, the Padres scare me and I think that that Mets have a better chance with the Dodgers.
We will happen to be in NYC during the 3 NYC games of the NLCS. It will be crazy fun.
Cheers.

SD are en fuego. I think they were the best team in MLB the last month of the season. That helps. Compare that to the Phillies, who were around .500 after the AS break.

Actually, I think the Mets may have had the best September record. But the Padres are tough. With that said, the Mets did split a 4-game series with them in San Diego late in the season and came close to winning 3 of the 4.
The Mets actually played quite poorly in this game. Many scoring opportunities - runners in scoring position 0 out in like 3 or 4 innings and nothing. One bat swing.
But the Phils really did play worse. They simply could not make anything happen given chances. The one run scored on a fielding error. They are a good team, but they just didn't show up for this series.
Cheers.

Sometime about 25 years ago (depending on brand) cars mostly switched over to plastic headlights instead of glass. We have all seen how they become yellow, fuzzy cataract-lens versions of themselves from the UV light. (Although a lot of people don't keep cars nearly that long but I digress) Anyways my 1998 Honda has that pretty bad in one eye, the other had been replaced by previous owner. My the looks of it, the spent the hundreds required to get a genuine Honda replacement! So since "headlight restoration" is a real thing these days, I was watching all these youtube videos on guys polishing the top layer of the plastic off going through various grits and then the important part, sealing the plastic with a UV-resistant clear coat, otherwise it can be a matter of weeks until the haze comes back. Or you get a $50 one on Amazon and hope for the the best. I was staring at mine in the driveway thinking "nobody got time for that" so I just wiped it with alcohol and grabbed a can of alloy-wheel clearcoat I had in the garage and gave it three good coats... Verdict: I give it like 88 or 90/100. Yeah it's still a little yellow. But the haze is gone. Hashtag winning

It was certainly several steps, but it got the job done.
Cheers.
