This is so true. I have to be gluten free. Not Celiac GF but for inflammation purposes. So my food doesn’t have to come from a GF cooking area with specific utensils or surfaces. I am lucky in that respect. But people think it’s a fad. They just don’t take these things seriously. Such a sad story. The problem with those types of ailments is they have become "fad" diets by choice, not by medical condition. This has conditioned people to look at eating gluten free as a choice now, not a medical concern.
This! My friends with both wheat allergy and celiac notice it too. So many claim allergies that are fads. At Disney people getting special meals often caused issues too with others jumping the bandwagon. I think that's why some roll eyes at it all.

I have a strong dislike of onions. It's not an allergy. It's a texture thing. The flavor, as long as it doesn't overwhelm the food, is manageable. Never have I thought to call it an allergy, because I think that makes light of a true allergy and the potential allergic reaction.
Regardless, a waitperson should be professional and not react sarcastically/negatively to any request, whether it is medical/dietary or a dislike.

When home once in a blue moon I'll pop some benadryl and eat the breading of an onion ring. I'm one of the ones that it is really the whole genus so many flowers that are all related cause eyes to itch up and burn. So I have to be careful with some scents as well. There are some perfumes that will cause a rash.

The problem is that the, for the vast majority of people going "gluten free" it is not medically necessary (celiac is pretty low as a percentage of population) and it does make it hard for those with a legitimate condition. OTOH, as it's a popular fad, it can increase choices for those with an acual condition.
Cheers.

This is such a shame. My daughter was allergic to eggs for years before she outgrew it(and this was validated with testing with our allergist because I was a very nervous mom!). And yes, there are some people who simply don't care or think you are exaggerating the significance of the allergy. We had mostly positive interactions with cast members when she was younger and we needed to verify before ordering her food. One of our biggest issues was ice cream! So many companies put eggs in the ice cream...
