Who/When/Where:
Who: Sue (65), DVC Member
SB (66), my husband
Dates: April 11 – 14, 2024
Resort: Disney’s Beach Club Villas Resort
Experience: Very Experienced – 61st stay at Beach Club Villas
INTRODUCTION:
It’s time for the annual Flower & Garden Festival trip! Since we choose to have the annual passes that do not include weekends, and because I need to stretch my vacation time to cover multiple HAL cruises and trips to Hilton Head, this trip is only 3 nights. We’ll have an evening and a full day for Flower & Garden Festival, and as usual it’s doubtful any of the other parks will be visited. It was booked as a solo trip, in a studio. However, now that SB has retired, he’ll be coming along. We’ll see how it goes – I generally want a 1-bedroom for trips with him, but I don’t have the points to be able to do that here.
Since Epcot is the only park we plan to visit, there’s no better location than Beach Club Villas. I love the convenience of just walking in via International Gateway. I’ll work until noon on Thursday, and we’ll head over to Epcot once arriving. Friday will be Epcot again. Saturday will be a resort day. I thought about making a dining reservation for Boathouse on Saturday, did so, told SB who fussed about not wanting to eat that much so I canceled. Weeks later I told him I’d canceled it based on his comments and he asked why do I ever listen to him – good question! A couple weeks after that (the weekend before the trip) I decided to go ahead and book it again – and chose 10:45 for an early lunch. That way he can still get the chicken dinner from Beach Club Marketplace for dinner assuming he’ll want another meal that day. I don’t really want to deal with Disney Springs on a weekend day, but it is what it is. Sadly, Big River Grill is closed, or I would have booked over there.
There’s some stormy weather system moving across the country, and it will affect our drive and the first day. In Gainesville it’s expected to start around 8am and be finished around 4pm. However, at Disney it’s expected to start around 2pm (our arrival time) and be wrapping up by 8pm. This probably means we’ll be spending Thursday hanging out inside the resort – it’s just no fun trudging around Epcot and trying to enjoy the festival in pouring rain, high winds, and thunder/lightning. Thankfully Friday and Sunday look wonderful!
The plans so far are:
Thursday 4/11: Drive to Disney, Epcot/Flower & Garden Festival
Friday 4/12: Epcot/Flower & Garden Festival
Saturday 4/13: Boathouse lunch, Pool
Sunday 4/14: Drive to Gainesville

Congrats to SB on his retirement. Does that mean you are close to doing that too so you can spend even more time at Disney? Have fun this trip. Always love Flower and Garden.

Congrats SB!!!!
Have fun on your F&G trip! You get Jo Dee Messina the 12th & 13th for the Garden Rocks Concerts. I have not seen her at Disney before, might be worth seeing. Boathouse is one our favorite Disney Springs restaurants. Since you are going on a weekend and early, you get their brunch menu too.
Would love to hear about your upcoming HAL trips too. We love Disney, but we still like to see and do things outside the Disney bubble too. We have not sailed on HAL yet, maybe one day. Right now, we have two Disney cruises and two Norwegian cruises in the coming 16 months.

I agree with your c choice of resorts, and your reasoning-Beach Club Villas is the best. Best Wishes to SB on his retirement-hope he enjoys it. Looking forward to the day we run into each other again at HHI. It's been way too long.

Retirement for me should be around/less than 4 years away. For Disney, since our park passes are good Mon-Fri it'll mean fewer weekend trips. The big appeal will be doing longer HAL cruises vs more Disney time.
I don't post my HAL trip reports here since they've got nothing to do with DVC (or Disney). Basically those go out via email, so if you'd like them just send me your email address. Next HAL cruise is November.
DAY 1 – Thursday 4/11/24 Who: Sue (65), DVC Member SB (66), my husband Plan: Drive to Disney, Epcot/Flower & Garden Festival
Actual: Today I worked until noon, as usual. Most of our stuff had been loaded into the trunk earlier this morning before it started to rain, so I only had to pack up the cooler at this point. We were on the road by 12:14. What should be a nice 2-hour drive ended up being 3.5 hours! It was awful. Most of the delay was 45 minutes sitting on the turnpike due to “emergency road work” that had it down to one lane. The rest was just some slowness due to weather.
Once on Disney property traffic was also heavier than normal, but the “room ready” text came as we were sitting at the light near Coronado Springs. We drove to Beach Club Villas and thankfully the rain had stopped. We went up to the room and of course my magic band did not work. SB found his in his backpack and that one worked, lol! He went into the room while I went downstairs and got my band set.
This is a handicapped studio, which is disappointing. The bed is very low to the ground – it’s almost comical. I have to bend over to pull the covers down. The top of the nightstand next to the bed is a good 12 inches above the mattress – which actually works for placing a glass of wine there. The murphy bed looks normal, and the kiddie bed under the tv is normal. The kitchenette has no lower cabinets and a lower counter height. As a short person it’s not that big of a deal, but for someone taller the counter might be hip height <g>. There are 2 cabinets up top, over the microwave, so I guess someone in a wheelchair simply doesn’t get to access the utensils, plates & cups.
The fridge is actually a beverage cooler, which is concerning since I brought some cheese and it’s likely to be moldy in 3 days. There’s no freezer compartment, since it’s just a cooler. For beverages we can add ice – the ice machine is just down the hall. The bathroom is another disappointment – a shower stall with a curtain, and it looks like water is likely to run out onto the bathroom floor. Most of this studio would be great for someone in a wheelchair, who needed these modifications but for able-bodied people it pretty much sucks. I won’t complain, as I understand somebody has to get stuck with any unbooked handicapped units and this is the trip where I drew the short straw. It had to happen sooner or later, and with this being my 61st stay I’ve had a good run of luck!
I unpacked and once we were settled, we walked over to Epcot. I hadn’t had any lunch, so I was pretty hungry. The rain had stopped for good, and quite a bit of blue sky was appearing. There was a nice breeze, and it wasn’t hot or humid – it was pretty much perfect! I expected much worse for today, so this was a very pleasant surprise.
My favorite item at Flower & Garden is the croissant stuffed with goat cheese from France, so after entering Epcot I surprised SB by turning right. Usually, we go in the other direction – often because the priority is his margarita(s) from Mexico. When we walked into France, I was very happy to see hardly any line at the booth! I jumped right into the queue and within minutes had the croissant and sauvignon blanc for me and the 12-ounce Kronenborg beer for SB. I was shocked the wine pour was actually decent – usually it’s half the small glass, or a few swallows. The wine was good too, but not as cold as I like. SB loved the beer – he’s had this many times, including at home. He tried my croissant and actually liked it. We sat on a bench in France to enjoy our snack. I ate most of the croissant – leaving him the last bite since he’d liked it.
We continued walking and in America stopped at the DVC booth to get our member sliders for our magic bands. During November/December they had a holiday themed one, and now it’s a new design. I’m not sure how often they’ll be doing these. We continued walking around the countries, enjoying the nice weather and the very low crowd level. He spotted a dessert that caught his eye and the couple carrying it told us it was bread pudding from Sommerfest in Germany. We might have to check that out tomorrow.
When we came around to Mexico, we were shocked to see only a couple of guests in the queue, and with 3 cast members working there basically was no wait at all. SB got a strawberry margarita and drank it while we walked around. We waited for the monorail to come around so I could take a couple pictures with the pretty flowers in the lake and Spaceship Earth in the background, then continued walking. At the 2nd of the shops entering World Showcase SB asked if I wanted to go in there to look for anything. I said ok, and he said he’d wait on a shady bench outside. Silly me – I thought he wanted to go in the store. Just inside they had a bunch of Lily Pulitzer stuff, and it was all 40% off. I’m not a big fan of her stuff (too flowery) but I did see a shirt that wasn’t over the top.
SB is wanting to start shopping for my birthday (it’s NOVEMBER, lol) so I got his attention and got him into the store to see what he thought. He liked it and handed me his gift card. On top of the 40% off I also got the 20% DVC discount, so the shirt was only $40 – very affordable even outside of Disney! Amanda – I got the XS and it’s a tiny bit on the big side on me, but they also have XXS that may work for you. It’s hard to find clothes for smaller people these days!
Once the shirt was bought, I retrieved SB from the bench and we continued walking. In Canada he got the seared scallops and also the beef tenderloin tips while I grabbed a shady bench facing the lake. Both the scallops and beef were excellent, but he said the beef would be his #1 pick.
As we came back around to International Gateway he left to sit on a shady bench while I made another loop around the countries. It seemed to be getting busier, but it still wasn’t bad. Compared to the nightmare I found last mid-November (huge crowds, lines everywhere) this was wonderful! I looked around in a few places but didn’t buy anything. That croissant really is filling, and I had wine in the room so no need to buy another glass out here (plus no ice here). As I passed America the concert was going on and the local band (Hooligans) sounded very good. The theater was pretty full, too. I recorded a little bit and played it for SB later – he liked them too.
When I came back around to International Gateway, I was ready to head back to the resort and relax, so we headed out. Before leaving I used mobile ordering for SB’s half chicken dinner since he wanted that. Part of me thought he wouldn’t be able to finish it after the beer, margarita, scallops and beef tips but I didn’t say anything. When we reached the path at Beach Club, I used the app to say we were there, and they started preparing our order. As we walked in the door, they were putting it in the bag, so our timing was perfect. We took it up to the room and he got ready to eat. A few bites into it and he was full, lol! It’s very good, but now I wish he’d just skipped it so tomorrow he’d have a fresh one rather than reheated in the microwave. Around this time, I realized with the gallon of water in the cooler the door wasn’t sealing shut – perhaps this is why stuff felt warmer than it should! I was able to rearrange and get it to close properly, so that should help.
I tried on the new shirt to make sure I didn’t need to swap it for another size, filled the ice bucket with ice and then got comfortable in the room. SB started talking about how he can’t believe I didn’t pick up some ice cream or a cookie or something (for him). At one point in Epcot, I walked somewhere, and he was thinking to himself oh good she’s going to get a cookie, but I didn’t. Why he didn’t simply say “let’s get a cookie” is beyond me, lol! Anyway, I’m in for the night and he’s not going anywhere, so no cookies for us!
I poured some wine and got to work on the report, planning to get it sent out early enough to relax doing other online stuff without being up late. Today was a mixed bag, but overall, it’s good. The drive was awful and taking 3.5 hours to go somewhere 2 hours away is a real pain! The handicapped studio is disappointing as well, but nothing I can’t live with for a short trip. Epcot was wonderful – weather, crowds, the foods, etc. That more than offset the negatives.
Tomorrow we’re heading back to Epcot. We’ll ride Soarin’ and check out some of the stuff at the front of the park until Flower & Garden Festival opens. Perhaps we’ll get some pool time in the afternoon before returning for an early evening at Epcot – should be a lovely day!

DAY 2 – Friday 4/12/24 Who: Sue (65), DVC Member SB (66), my husband Plan: Epcot/Flower & Garden Festival
Actual: So last night SB really wanted a cookie or something sweet but did not want to get dressed to go downstairs. He kept hoping I wanted a cookie, which I definitely did not – even if he was going to go down to get it. In the end he got up and reheated part of his chicken dinner and poured a small diet coke he’d brought from home. It sure smelled good – and definitely better for him than a cookie. I told him if we were talking Gideon’s cookies I’d make an exception and eat it, but the cookies at Beach Club Marketplace are nothing special (not worth the calories).
It was a quiet evening. People were out at the pool, but we didn’t hear any noise inside the studio. Around 10 before 9 we could hear fireworks, but I knew it was too early for Harmonious at Epcot. We’re also facing away from Epcot, so I knew we wouldn’t see any of them. I stepped out onto the porch and was surprised to be facing what I assume were the fireworks at Magic Kingdom! What a nice surprise. I watched for a little while but then headed back inside before they finished. We turned in around 9:45 and slept really well. Despite being close to the elevator we didn’t have any noisy people walking by, and everything was quiet. I was up around 4:45 and took the coffee maker into the bathroom to make my cappuccino. When I came back out SB was still sleeping, so I brought the cappuccino and laptop to bed but didn’t turn on the lights or tv just yet.
SB was up by 6 and we hung out doing online stuff while watching the local news. The weather looks to be fabulous for the rest of the trip! I got up to take my shower around 6:45, and he followed when I finished. The roll-in shower is not ideal for us, but we managed not to soak the bathroom floor. After dressing and drying my hair, I assumed he’d want to get the bounty platter for breakfast and bring it up to the room. He did want the breakfast but wanted to eat it down there. I did mobile ordering and immediately pressed the button for “I’m here – prepare my food”. By the time we got downstairs it had just been put in the bag.
Rather than eat outside in the morning dampness I led us to the Solarium, where he insisted on the very first table (why walk any further than that – ugh). We shared the breakfast, but still didn’t finish it. I had the Mickey waffle and a piece of bacon, while he ate some of the potatoes, eggs, biscuit, sausage & other bacon. He drank all of his NesQuick chocolate milk. It was early when we finished but we walked over to International Gateway anyway.
SB had trouble getting into the park, same as last night. They had to call a cast member over to reset his band & fingerprint. I’m not sure what he’s been doing wrong, as he’s never had these issues before. Of course, it can always be a Disney glitch – their technology has challenges at times.
Once into the park we were held up across from the stage in Canada for about 15 minutes until 8:30. The park opens at 9 for the general public, but 8:30 for resort guests. We passed lots of people who had come in the awful front entrance, no doubt headed to France for Ratatouille. We headed straight to Soarin and pretty much walked into the pre-show. We were in the front row of the center section, so the view was ideal. The set of seats on our left wasn’t used at all – it was that uncrowded at this point.
Soarin’ is back to the around the world version, and we enjoyed it. Afterwards we rode Living with the Land, with only one other guest on the pair of boats. We skipped the movie. SB bought a bottle of water while I took care of a quick work issues, then we headed back outside.
I suggested Spaceship Earth but he’s not a big fan of that and felt it was too far away (excuses). I could have left him on a bench and gone to do it myself but didn’t bother. This is the biggest benefit to solo trips – no having to agree on anything with anyone, just do what you want when you want. He’d already seen the Moana water thing, so we didn’t bother repeating that. He suggested Creations (the store) so we browsed through there. He saw a big Darth Vader head he thought would look good on his bar and was talking about getting 2 of them! He has no room on his bar, though – and these things were big! Fortunately, he changed his mind a bit later <g>.
We didn’t buy anything in Creations and sat outside for a little while. The Jammitors came over and played a couple songs nearby, and when they left, we decided to get up and keep walking too. We headed out to World Showcase and turned left towards Mexico. I expected we’d only be able to get as far as Norway since it was well before 11am but I could see people walking through Germany, Italy, etc.
We stopped in Mexico to ride the boat ride and some painted skulls caught his eye. He decided these would look good on his bar. Best of all they had multiple sizes and he opted for the smallest ones. We decided to get them later, closer to when we’d be leaving the park this afternoon. We did the boat ride with no wait then headed back outside to continue walking. In Germany we walked back to check the Sommerfest menu for that bread pudding and saw that it’s pretzel bread pudding. Earlier I couldn’t imagine how bread pudding would be a Germany thing, but this makes sense. We never did get any this morning but hope to when we return around dinner time.
In Canada we sat on a bench for a while. It was still barely 10:30. Eventually he spotted someone walking by with a margarita in his hand and I reminded him the Cantina in Mexico opens around 10. When we’re here with Tiana & Jonell we’re always sitting in there by 10:30 as the 3 of them drink their margaritas, so I’m not sure how he didn’t know they’d be open. We got up and walked over there and I got us a table while he ordered his mango margarita. We had a couple big fat ducks hanging around in the restaurant, but thankfully nobody was feeding them (yet).
When he finished his margarita is was getting close to 11 so we went into Mexico to get the skulls. They had several and he liked the ones that were painted white and black. He picked the 2 he liked best and also got a couple shot glasses (he has way too many of those already, but he seems to think more is better, lol). The first register wasn’t working, so they took us to another, which also wasn’t working, so they took us to a third. A supervisor had to come by and swipe a card before that one would work, but then things went smoothly. They do a great job wrapping up breakable stuff, probably thinking some of it will be flying home with the guest.
We left Mexico and stopped at the festival stand nearby where they cook ribs behind the booth. He got 2 orders of the ribs (each 2 big ribs) and a chocolate mousse terrarium with matcha crumbles and edible flowers. I got us a bench over by the bbq pits. The ribs were very good, somewhat sticky from a peanut sauce and with chopped peanuts and some peppers on the plate. I ate 1 rib, and he had the other 3. We shared the chocolate mousse – it was more than enough for 2 people to share! It was good, but not something I’d bother with again.
We continued walking and he went to wait on a bench in International Gateway while I continued to France for another goat cheese croissant. Today the line was longer, but it moved pretty quickly. The croissant was outstanding once again! I shared it with SB who proclaimed it his favorite item overall. Once it was gone we left the park and walked back to Beach Club Villas.
Our trash had already been taken, which was nice to see. We changed into swimsuits and headed down to the quiet pool for a while. He spent the time in the pool and I enjoyed a chaise lounge nearby. After about 45 minutes he headed back up to the room and I stayed for another half-hour or so. It was warming up quickly and I didn’t feel like getting all sweaty and gross. I was back inside just after 1:30 and after getting dressed settled down to update the report while watching General Hospital. SB played some horse races online since the baseball games he was interested in weren’t being played until tonight. He fixed himself a ham sandwich and ate some chips – stuff I’d brought from home.
After GH we continued watching some game shows until the 4pm news started. SB heated up the rest of his chicken dinner and added a beer we’d brought from home. I had a glass of wine and did some online stuff. We were thinking of trying for the 5:30 concert tonight (Jo Dee Messina) but in the end SB decided he was too comfortable laying here. With this being my last chance to be in Epcot until next October (upcoming trips before then will all be too hot for me to consider going to the parks) I was still going back to wander around even though I’m really not hungry for more food.
I left around 4:45 and immediately noticed Epcot was a lot busier than last night. I’m assuming yesterday was a fluke due to the bad weather earlier in the day, but it sure made it nice for us! The festival booths all had lines, too – although still nowhere near as bad as the horrific Festival of the Holiday lines in November! I turned left into United Kingdom and began my loop.
In Germany the caramel shop was not that busy (line ended at the doorway) so I joined the queue and bought one of the caramel apple oatmeal cookies for us to share later. Since this is considered a merchandise shop for some reason, it’s nice to get 20% off here. Even Italy had a long line, so any thoughts of a possible prosecco were quickly abandoned.
Arriving in America there was just over 15 minutes until the 5:30 concert would begin. The theater was very crowded, but I decided to wander in and take my chances. I don’t know Jo Dee Messina or any of her songs, so it didn’t really matter where I sat. My main priority was being able to make an easy exit in case I didn’t care for the music.
I decided to sit on the wall over on the Japan side of the theater. Nobody had started sitting there yet, unlike on the Italy side where it was already full. I took a spot near the front, and soon the rest of the wall filled in. As expected, a few minutes before 5:30 a cast member came and took a few of us to an empty row of seats in the front row of the 2nd section, which is my ideal spot. As a short person, this works better than being in a row with another person right in front of me (a person who is usually taller).
By now the theater was standing room only, with several standing outside the theater as well. When Jo Dee came out, she didn’t look familiar to me at all, but the audience seemed to all be very excited to see her. Her voice wasn’t familiar, and neither were any of the songs. However, most of the people in the audience knew all the words and were singing along. She reminded me of a country music singer, and I thought she was fine but since I didn’t know any of the songs it was just ok for me. I ended up leaving after around 4 songs, preferring to get ahead of the crowd since the concert didn’t really matter to me. As expected, France had a pretty long line – the longest I’ve seen so far but not the worst I’ve ever seen in the past. I’m glad I got my croissant earlier!
I left via International Gateway and stopped by the room to drop off the cookie so the caramel wouldn’t melt. SB was watching the Master’s and there was a bag on the floor from Beach Club Marketplace. Almost immediately my phone alerted me that his glucose was too high (271) so I looked at the receipt in the bag to see he’d eaten a chocolate croissant, bag of grapes and 2 small whole milks. He will be truly shocked when his A1C isn’t where it should be. He also had a chocolate chunk cookie on the table that he’d bought for me. I added the caramel apple oatmeal cookie and put them both in a ziplock bag.
I went back out and took a walk around Crescent Lake. Hurricane Hannah’s at Stormalong Bay was full of guests having drinks. Over at Boardwalk it was sad to see the former Big River Grill site closed up. The booth that will become Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs is still under renovation, as is the Cake Bake Shop. At least they’ve made quite a bit of progress on Cake Bake Shop since November.
Back in the room I found SB waiting for a baseball game to start (in a delay). I cut up a small plate of crackers and cheese and offered him some of a packaged cheese, cashews and dried fruit thing but he wasn’t hungry. I didn’t want the whole package, so I just settled for the cheese and crackers I’d prepared, along with some wine. By 7:30 his glucose was back within range. The baseball game started a little bit after that, and he used his headphones, so the game wasn’t competing with the tv. We’re both in for the night at this point.
Today was a wonderful day – perfect weather, a great time at Flower & Garden Festival this morning, and we both enjoyed the pool time. I enjoyed my late afternoon foray back into Epcot for another loop around the countries and the walk around Crescent Lake.
Tomorrow, we don’t have park access, and that’s ok. We’ll spend the morning at Disney Springs and have an early lunch at the Boathouse, then enjoy more pool time. I’ll most likely walk around Crescent Lake later – just enjoying being here!

DAY 3 – Saturday 4/13/24 Who: Sue (65), DVC Member SB (66), my husband
Plan: Boathouse lunch, Pool
Actual: We both slept well again last night, this time with me falling asleep first. He claims to have stayed awake through the end of the baseball game, although I’m pretty sure his eyes were closed some of the time, lol. I was up just after 5, and after brushing my teeth and making my cappuccino made it back to bed just as HAL’s Eurodam was coming into port (Port Everglades) for the final time of this season. It’ll head to Alaska later today. About an hour later the Rotterdam arrived for the last time, heading to Europe later today. The Caribbean season is over now, until November. SB got up around 6:15 and we spent a leisurely morning doing our online stuff.
I got up to shower & dress a little before 8. It’s a chilly morning but will be beautiful later. We lucked out with the weather, as starting Monday it will be close to 90 degrees for the rest of the forecast period. We shared a Sargento snack (cheese, cashews, fruit), and I followed that with a small piece of a caramel apple oatmeal cookie. He held off on cookies, hoping for Gideon’s later. He took his shower around 8:45 and we left for the bus stop at 9:15. I know the app will give you the bus arrival time, but I couldn’t find it easily and decided to just take our chances.
We arrived at the bus stop at 9:17 and the Disney Springs bus was due at 9:19. It later changed to 9:20 but arrived at 9:19 so this was perfect! Another couple and us were the only passengers and after a quick stop at Boardwalk we went to Disney Springs, getting there shortly after 9:30.
We walked over towards Gideon’s to see how crazy the line was, and I was surprised it was only down to the corner of Morimoto. I thought it would have already been snaked around the corner. Since the shops weren’t opening until 10 (it was almost 9:40 by now) we decided to just join the line. It was comfortable out there, which made a huge difference! As usual they opened up about 5 minutes early and the line moved significantly when they let the first big batch of guests inside. From that point it moved slower, but pretty well.
Once inside SB checked out the special cookie of the month – salted caramel infused white chocolate macadamia nut. It looked way too sweet for me, but it’s what he ended up getting. My choice was the banana walnut chocolate chip, and we got a coffee cake cookie for Holli who is feeding Kitty Cat while we’re away. When I learned the Bites today were the pistachio toffee chocolate chip (coated in dark chocolate), I added a bag of those. That’s my other favorite cookie flavor here. We were back outside by 10:30 and walked straight over to the Boathouse to check in early for our lunch reservation.
We decided to eat outside for a change since it was so nice out (not hot). Normally I’m getting a glass of wine and want ice for that but being outside the ice melts too fast so it’s just a pain being out there. We were taken to a nice table outside in a corner of a big deck area. We’d barely sat down before someone was there with ice water and the warm rolls. Weekends they open at 10 instead of 11 and have a brunch menu in addition to the regular menu.
I decided a glass of prosecco was a better choice than wine this early, and SB ordered lemonade. He ended up not really liking it, and clearly something so sugary wasn’t the right choice anyway. He switched off to diet coke. He got a half-dozen of the Prince Edward oysters and enjoyed them. He was saying he wished I liked seafood but I pointed out that if I did he would have only gotten 4 of the 6 oysters so there is a plus side to this!
For lunch I stuck with my usual – the filet mignon sliders. This now comes with 3 sliders and no side, so I ate 2 and gave the other one to SB. He got the shrimp boil, which had lots of big shrimp, sausage, corn on the cob, and potatoes. He said it was very good – the sliders were too. We were too full to think about dessert, so just asked for the check. Once that was settled, we walked out to the bus stops and found our bus sitting there waiting for us!
The bus was pretty much full, but most guests disembarked at the Yacht Club. A few minutes later we got off at Beach Club and went up to the room. Once again, the trash had already been picked up. SB decided to stay in the room since his baseball game was starting at 1:10 but I changed into a swimsuit to head to the pool. He asked for some of his cookie, so I broke off a small piece for him. I took a tiny bite first and confirmed I don’t care for it at all (too sweet) but he thought it was great. I broke off another piece of the caramel apple oatmeal cookie and ate that as I walked down to the pool.
It was another beautiful afternoon out there, with a bit stronger breeze today to make it feel less hot. I stayed out there until just after 2, then headed back upstairs. After changing I packed up the dirty laundry and dragged the suitcase out to repack the stuff we wouldn’t be wearing. It’s hard to believe the trip is almost over – three nights goes by way too fast! I updated the report and around 3:15 ships started sailing, with both of the HAL ships scheduled for 3:45. We would be number 3 & 4 out of the 6 in port today.
It was almost 4:30 by the time they both sailed, and SB asked if wanted anything from Beach Club Marketplace. I was still full from our early lunch, plus there’s still crackers and cheese stuff here so I didn’t want anything. He came back with clam chowder and a foot long chili cheese dog. He did offer me some, but I don’t eat either of those things! He also had the rest of his chips.
I’d been nodding off while hanging out in the room, so I decided to go for a walk. SB chose to stay behind, saying he might go to the pool, but I know he’ll be in the same position when I return <g>. I left a little before 5:30 and got back a little after 6:30. I walked over to the Skyliner station and rode it over to Riviera Resort. This resort is so pretty! It’s also nearly impossible to get into (in a studio) at 7 months.
I walked along the perimeter of the resort and once at the opposite end turned to walk through the Caribbean Beach Resort. I’ve never liked this resort and every time I venture over there my dislike gets reinforced. It’s just too crowded, too noisy, and too cheap looking. They did have some activities for kids going on, and the cast members were very friendly & welcoming, but the overall vibe to me is a cheap motel without the cheap room rates. They have a little island that had several quiet seating areas and a few of them were occupied by people reading a book and enjoying the view of the water without all the noise. It seemed like the smoking areas in the different villages were all right along the path that circles the water, so that was pretty gross. It was also a very warm walk, because it was mostly in the sun! I know not to attempt it again in a warmer month.
At the main Skyliner station there was a huge snaking queue of people waiting to board. I guess everyone is going to Epcot, which is a good reason to not be over there tonight! Thankfully the line moved pretty well, but it sure was intimidating at first. I chose this station because I knew it would be tough to get on a gondola from the Riviera station but didn’t expect such a huge crowd.
Sure enough, getting off the Skyliner everyone except me was headed left to Epcot. I turned right and walked back to the resort. SB was laying on the bed watching tv and his swimsuit was still sitting (dry) on the coffee table. I went to get ice and when I came back cut up some crackers & cheese, poured some wine and enjoyed the food while updating the report. The afternoon sun shines on our balcony so sitting out there with the sun in my eyes isn’t very appealing. Perhaps later I’ll sit out there and do some reading if nothing’s on tv. Tonight’s my last chance to watch the MK fireworks, too – I skipped them last night.
Today was a really nice relaxing day – we did hardly anything, yet the time flew by. I’m glad we got Gideon’s out of the way, as now we don’t have to head over there tomorrow. The Boathouse was excellent as usual, and it was nice eating outside for a change. The pool time was very nice too.
Tomorrow, I think Chris, Amanda & Ari will be arriving bright & early (around 8 or so) for a day at Epcot so we’ll get to see them before heading home. Hopefully they won’t run into any traffic that early in the day.

I always love reading your reports because you really show how DVC visits can be low-park or no-park and still feel enjoyable.

I always love reading your reports because you really show how DVC visits can be low-park or no-park and still feel enjoyable. Disney might disagree with you, lol - they want people to buy park passes, buy Genie+, buy all the souveniers, buy the character meals, buy the signature dining, buy Minnie Van service, etc. 40 years ago I would have been gung-ho to do it all, but now I really value the relaxation and resort far more than the parks. DAY 4 – Sunday 4/14/24 Who: Sue (65), DVC Member SB (66), my husband Plan: Drive to Gainesville Actual: Last night I caught some of the MK fireworks, but for whatever reason it seemed like they ran at a slightly different time. SB had eaten some of the regular cookies while I was out walking, so before bed I had one of the Gideon’s Bites – very good. I turned in before him and we both slept well. I was up before 5 and he didn’t actually get up until nearly 7! Chris had texted around 4am to say they weren’t coming up today after all. Can’t say that I blame them – it’s a long drive (round trip) for a day trip. Around 7:15 I did mobile ordering for breakfast from Beach Club Marketplace, but the first available time was 7:30. I wasn’t sure if that meant it was busy down there or if they just didn’t do all the hot foods when they open at 7. At Jambo House the quiche is always at least 30 minutes after opening time. We had nowhere to be, so the slight delay didn’t matter. I got the notification at 7:25 that I could let them know I was there, so I tapped that and headed downstairs. The notification that it was ready came just as I entered the building. It was very busy down there, with lots of people standing around waiting to order or possibly waiting to get the food they’d ordered. I was happy to walk right in, get my bag, and walk out! We shared the steak & egg breakfast sandwich and breakfast potatoes but didn’t finish the potatoes. The sandwich is the winner here! Carrying the potatoes in a closed container makes them fairly soggy even at a very short distance. SB liked the sandwich, so hopefully he’ll share this again in the future! We finished packing up our stuff and were out the door shortly after 8 to begin the drive home. I had set the stuff I’d packed up and put it by the front door, knowing which items I would handle. SB had a laundry bag full of dirty laundry, and his shoes at his end of the room. Yesterday I was going to put the laundry in the car but he insisted he’d put it in his backpack (no way would it fit) and got belligerent when I said he wouldn’t have room. I just let it go – it’s not worth arguing with husbands who can’t see when they’re clearly wrong about something <g>. So today he goes to the door and starts gathering up all the stuff I was going to carry and insists HE has got it. He didn’t want me taking any of it (he left me the cooler and jug of water to carry). We’re in the elevator and I notice his backpack and asked him how he fit the laundry bag in there. Deer in headlights look commenced. I asked if he packed the laundry and he said he saw it but doesn’t think so, lol! Down on the first floor he goes out to the car while I go back to the room – the entire full bag of dirty laundry AND his shoes are sitting there on the coffee table! I’m glad I said something and didn’t trust him to get it! I grabbed the stuff, then met him out at the car. Thankfully the drive this morning was exactly how it should be – no traffic delays, no bad weather, etc. We were home by 10am. I did laundry, he set his skulls on his bar, and then I got to work wrapping up the report so I can relax this afternoon. Other than the nightmare getting down to Disney (traffic delay) and having a handicapped room, the trip was really great! It went much better than I expected, given that we were sharing a studio for 3 nights. Next March when I’m limited to a studio here again, we should be able to make it work for both of us to enjoy the trip. I absolutely loved how uncrowded it was on our arrival day – that made the festival so nice! I haven’t seen Epcot like that in too many years to count, so it was a real treat. I love that goat cheese croissant and hope they never take it off the festival menu. The room location was perfect for us – so close to everything that matters to us, and the fireworks were an unexpected bonus. Beach Club Villas is my favorite resort for festival trips, and I enjoy every visit. The Boathouse was very good, and the wait at Gideon’s was better than expected. This was clearly the last trip before sweaty weather will accompany me on my next several WDW trips. There’s no photo album for this short little trip. Our next DVC trip is Hilton Head in a couple of weeks. In recent years I’ve gotten sick of dealing with Mother’s Day and/or Cinco de Mayo crowds at the restaurants, so this year we’re going a week earlier. We’ll head up Tuesday 4/30 and stay the usual 5 nights, returning on Sunday (Cinco de Mayo) rather than Monday. We’ll be in a 1-bedroom, and are both looking forward to Poseidon (me for the pimento cheese and him for the oysters)!
