I am very tempted to give this a try. However, from what I understand where you check in and then to the location of the cabins you need to take a bus. Then you have to hop on those buses to go back to the main area to then take a bus to the park. Sounds a bit inconvenient, thought? If you are driving, the cabins have parking spots. It's likely the shortest walk from car to room of any of the DVC options now. The main store has a few limited parking spots. All other car parking is up by the registration area. Golf carts and bikes are very popular. The internal bus system has been very efficient when we've camped at FW. Plus the whole campground has always been a slower pace experience for me. Waiting for a bus isn't a big deal there as we are rarely in a hurry to get anywhere. Has everyone seen the newest Disney Files? There's a lot about the cabins at FW in this issue. It's a fun read.

The current shorts walk from your car to villa is the Treehouse, over at SSR......Just in case anyone was wondering.
My favorite parking at a DVC resort is at Kidani Village, which I find to be the most convenient.

Provided some goober didn't take your tree house parking spot. I think next up is possibly OKW depending on the building. I do really like Kidani as well. I cannot say we've had great luck with buses at the campground. If you don't have a car or golf cart it is very tedious. At least when at a campsite we had a chance of being closer to the dock or other common areas.

And if you wanted to go to like Hoop Dee Doo or Trail's End, you can't drive up there in your car, can you?
I will say that staying places other than FW, before we lost Trail's End we would go all the time, but transport can be annoying. We would usually make our way to Magic Kingdom and then take the boat over. Then hope the boat is still running after eating (or HDDR) but we HAVE had to navigate that bus nightmare a couple times.

Then you have to hop on those buses to go back to the main area to then take a bus to the park. Sounds a bit inconvenient, thought? It is not convenient. I’m trying to remember the one time we stayed at fort wilderness. I think we used DME, but I think we were doing it the last minute way where you had to bring your luggage to the bus. It was not a fun start to the trip. We got there, we had been traveling for a few days already and we had a 1yo, a 5 yo, double stroller, car seat, at least 3 suitcases… and I think our cabin was exactly halfway around the loop! DH told everyone that you needed to go for a mile hike, take a boat, a train, AND a bus to get anywhere. He was not a fan. It was a lot easier to convince ourselves dvc was a good idea after that! The current shorts walk from your car to villa is the Treehouse, over at SSR......Just in case anyone was wondering.

Kidani parking is great if you know how it works and where you are staying…. The first time we were there we did not! ‘‘Twas a long walk…

I called to make a reservation today for the golf cart. The phone # provided in link is not correct unless you want to call Shades of Green … Correct number is 407-824-2742 Also requires a Confirmation number at the Cabins to reserve the golf cart in your trip planning. I don’t think that is mentioned in the article either.

It was $70 total for one 4 passenger Golf cart. . Pickup time was 1:00, I think and return 11:00 the next day. Trying to figure if I should add a day to keep it longer the next day. They said they had plenty of carts available but I was worried about the holidays and the recent reminder about updates today … So I went ahead and booked . I am also going to the Fort on Tuesday for last minute stay in the old before the new reservation for Thanksgiving. If you want me to ask any other questions I will be happy to get more info for you.

the funny thing about the number is that so many sites have it wrong then LOL (obviously not my care but they should be better, I'm sure fat finger)
I saw a youtube today on the cabins. I'm not a follower of vloggers, but this was on my FB feed.

Before covid, you could rent a golf cart without staying at the campground. Rules change. After re-opening, the general policy requires staying at the campground to rent a Disney golf cart at Fort Wilderness. I remember this one clearly because one reader was so offended by a story in my Fort Wilderness book years ago they wrote a harshly negative review based on the fact I once rented a golf cart for the day while staying at Poly, demanding a refund. It was always weird to me that some random stranger would get that worked up over nothing.
I think you could likely still comply with that general policy with a different reservation for something at the Fort - Segway tour, pony rides, something - but I have not been interested enough in getting a golf cart there again without having a campsite at Fort Wilderness to try it. I have gone back several times on recent trips and ridden the bus around for some general benchmarking. That's fun too, as long as it's a relaxed trip with no deadlines.
Tom, I'll have to take your word for parking for Treehouses. I was going to try Treehouses for the first time for a friend's 50th last fall, but plans changed and we opted for a two bedroom for that trip instead. I do agree about Kidani parking. Love it! Not only is it convenient with all the elevators, that shade under the building is fantastic in the summer!

Correct - you cannot drive from your site/cabin to get to Hoop or Trail's End.

I will second MinnieMoms recommendation to check out the new Disney File Magazine when you get yours in the mail ! Not only is it fun and interesting it is interactive with QR Codes to scan for DVC exclusive content !
In the meantime the holidays are being walked… I keep trying . I have Thanksgiving but I also want to stay for Xmas Eve . That’s a big wish on my my Santa list for now!

I think one big problem is that there are only 30 cabins declared, and Thanksgiving is now within 7 months. Since very few can book beyond that, almost everyone wanting to be there leading up to Christmas will have to walk.
When they declare more cabins into DVC that will trigger an almighty rush to book. I think by September there are expected to be 60+ new cabins ready but at the moment half of those are for cash booking only.

We will probably give the cabins a try in 2025. DH has very nostalgic memories of staying as a kid and his mother has since passed, I think he would enjoy a weekend to show the kiddos what he enjoyed. But it would be a short visit and probably one without park time.
