I’m referring to the plumeria sticks that can be purchased in Disney Springs. Because we live in FL now, I do know that many of the flowering plants in these at DS are fake. I’ve walked by them enough to recognize that now.
So, in December of 2020 we raced through Disney Springs obtaining a stick for my mom who is a master gardener, but doesn’t have gardens in FL like she did in MI mostly due to her age. We were racing because we were in the middle of selling our house back in Iowa at the time. Over that winter her stick turned to mush. I went to purchase my own stick in May and knew when speaking to them on another visit that they would exchange my mom’s stick. So I picked up 2 and we both started growing them. Starting them in the warm weather was a better idea. They both did well that summer and grew big green leaves. Her location was better than mine however on her lanai. They even get poinsettias to grow, go green and then turn red again just by leaving them there. The leaves fell off and we stuck it in a corner.
Year 2, mine turned to mush, mostly because my step dad waters my plants when we are gone and over waters them. I’m not sure why he doesn’t over water hers on the lanai, but he doesn’t. I no longer buy plants because he kills them when we leave. I look at other people’s. Hers even had spider mites at one time. Still did okay. Her lanai is just a great place for plants too. Ours is too hot. They have a mini split in theirs, but the building codes have changed so getting one installed on ours isn’t possible. Mine grew leaves again as did my mom’s, but in the fall when the weather changed is when mine was toast…too much water.
Year 3. It’s BLOOMING!! It’s very pretty too. It’s pretty big too now. If I could remember how to post pictures I would, but it’s been far too long.
3 years is a long time to wait, but it is pretty. I think it’s too cold up here to plant it outside though. One of our neighbors told us that different plants and tress that grown in Tampa won’t grow up here because it’s too cold in Dec/Jan timeframe.

They have a mini split in theirs, but the building codes have changed so getting one installed on ours isn’t possible. Just curious - why is that? Like they won't allow the compressor unit, or code says "no conditioning of lanai space"

Like they won't allow the compressor unit, or code says "no conditioning of lanai space" I'm not really sure. If it's built with one it's fine. I'm guessing that it's because of the electrical and what's acceptable to the county. Then it might be cost prohibitive. My parent's bought theirs with it. I do know it also raises taxes. I just leave the shades pulled when it's blazing hot.

I don’t know what a mini split is but Florida has lots of Code and new Codes going to effect next month, I think because of that Condo Collapse in Miami ! HomeOwners Maintenance Fees will have different stricter financial increases to guarantee & .Insurance will skyrocket too. All exterior units with 3 stories must be inspected starting next month. I wonder how this will affect the DVC buildings because something about SSR always reminds me of Celebration building structures. And this place has constant exterior maintenance expensive problems to maintain.
Frankly I’m surprised DVC hasn’t devised a plan to extend all 2042 contracts to match OKW !

I’ve had my plumeria since very early 2020. I had started with 4 but only 1 survived and 1 was replaced when I told them I had “lost” some. Both that have survived are as tall as I am at 5 foot 2 and still growing.
The real trick to getting them started is to use cactus sand and not potting soil. Treat them similar to a cactus and they will grow! Too much water is much too much water - when starting them they only get a little bit of water about 1/2 cup and that’s every 2 weeks until the stick starts growing. Now that mine are established and in very large pots I keep them in my screen house by the pool. They currently only get watered when it rains. If we haven’t had rain in ages they get watered. Mine love being in the sun and heat! We live near MK for reference.

Mine did great until he did that and he doesn't over water theirs. He's 90. I even took away the water bottles and then he used the hose. Water kills. I did use cactus sand too. I think it's too cold up here to leave them outdoors year round or on the lanai. If I attempt again I'd put it in the garage near our water heater. Hers looks great and has even more flowers coming too!

Glad her stick bloomed. Plumeria are so, so pretty!! Sorry yours got watered to death. My mom was such a wonderful gardener. Her sister was too. Everything they touched bloomed and thrived. I killed my iris that grows in the swamp, so I can kill anything.

Glad it's doing so well! I'm notoriously bad at killing things. I was impressed when I had an orchid for a year before I killed it.

A mini split is a unit that does not need to be tied into current ductwork. It has its own vent and intake unit and is mounted in the attic of most buildings. ( something I sold as a sales specialist at Lowe’s LOL. One of my many hats I wore before retirement).

( something I sold as a sales specialist at Lowe’s LOL. One of my many hats I wore before retirement). Back in my working days we had an office that we were converting into a server room. As the management person who "owned" the room, I got to work with the service folks on things like power and cooling requirements. And this is exactly what we did there. We needed lots of cooling, so it was 3 of these units. I hadn't realized that this was what a mini split was but, now that you describe it, that is exactly what we used. And they worked very well. Mounted high on the walls so that the cold could descend.
Cheers.

Mini split. I think it’s a double problem. One is concrete block homes in the south which makes it hard and then the electrical is a bigger issue. I just don’t go out there J-J-A in the afternoons LOL still okay in the mornings. We have those shades too that block the sun, but we can still see through.
I have a faux orchid out on the lanai from Costco. It works! I also ordered the Mickey rug from Costco that’s UV resistant for out there.
