Maybe younger people like the new characters more - I don't really know. However, they could not possibly afford this experience in the numbers that Disney needed to make it a success. The geezers are the ones with the money. I'm thinking more about the theming of the land itself, long term. The hotel was simply a bad idea. Maybe they can revive it in like 20 years when the youger folks are the ones with the gelt.
Cheers.

Disney killed SW for me. I loved episodes 4 to 6 and enjoyed 2 and 3. 1 was okay. Episodes 7 through 9. Meh. 7 destroyed Hans character growth from 4 to 6. 8 was a hot mess. 9 - my family viewed as a comedy with Palpatine resurrected. I can't even watch the originals anymore.

The rest are Disney. I could still watch the originals. I's just have to put Hayden Christensen's atrocious acting out of my mind. Even Natalie Portman, who I do like, was simply not good. 1-3 sucked. Jar Jar, really? 7-9 were tolerable. But they were all Disney, not SW.
Cheers.

Though maybe indirectly. Lucas was envisioning Jar Jar to be a Goofy like character. No joke.

I was hoping SW hotel would do well. It would have been a cool success story. I'd much rather see Disney occasionally swing for the fences and miss than stop trying to do something creatively new at the parks for fans. One day when I can put this video on in the background while I do some task I will enjoy listening to it. Thanks for posting the link! I enjoy Star Wars. I think DH has memorized all dialogue from all movies - he is a much more dedicated fan. Once we saw prices for Galactic Cruiser, we were out. It would have been fun, but at those prices we could have done a resale add on instead. Here's hoping the building doesn't get left to rot like Discovery Island or River Country. That would be such a waste. Just for fun, here's a few photos from a visit to Galaxy's Edge with a close friend and her kids. I think these are from 2022 but could be wrong by a year either direction. Oh, and because it always makes me smile - - - here's the video proving DH was willing to let me record us on Rise of the Resistance at least once! Wouldn't it be cool if there was a way to turn the abandoned hotel into another attraction? No clue what that might be, but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed. Hum. It just hit me that part of what I love about Disney trips is sharing the experience with others. The hotel always seemed to be like being part of this giant secret. That is directly opposite of one of the major reasons I enjoy visiting the parks. Don't know if that would resonate with anyone else, but looking back I'm betting that's a small part of why we skipped the Star Wars hotel. Just a small part though - - those prices were just not for us.

I’m about half way through the video and it is extremely well done. A really excellent video essay done with passion, not for clicks.
i think the author is who the Star Wars hotel was made for but she does an excellent breakdown of why it failed for even her.

Good thing VHS and blockbuster existed Really though as a young girl, Leia was wonderful to watch. Gave us ideas that we weren't just damsels in distress As a young boy, I couldn't agree more
Cheers.
As an older man, some of my favorite parts… Fortunately/unfortunately, I was never so into the Star Wars universe that I let anything upset me. Of course I never let it overjoy me, either, so it was always just whatever. Yes, my usual… As far as the movies, I’ve always viewed it as: Episodes 4-6: Lucas / original Episodes 1-3: Fox with Lucas input Episodes 7-9: Disney with limited Lucas input All the books and crap, who knows. As far as I know it was never officially accepted as “canon”.

After it occurred to me that the video would be an excellent way to think about marketing and what to avoid for Standing Pines, I started the video with DH this morning. It will take us some time to watch it, perhaps just one chapter at a time. Still well worth it to understand why the Star Wars hotel failed, at least from the perspective of a fan who was so interested she made a four hour video about it.

Robin started watching the video this morning. So far, she is really enjoying the candid take on its failure, as oppose to the bloggers who "sell" everything and anything at Disney is great!
