DH wants to start using Uber/Lyft, with the preference for Lyft because they're associated with the Mickie Vans. I read mainly about people renting cars. It seems to me that a limo is expensive, although I understand they will incorporate a stop in the price. So I'd like opinions.
Why do you rent a car or limo?
Why do I read very little about Uber and Lyft?
Does anyone else see the bus service degenerating?

Are you talking about getting from MCO to WDW? Or in general?
We used to hire a car for the whole of our stay. Then we realised for our last trip that a) the cost was ridiculous and b) we only needed a car for 2 days -for KSC and Legoland. So we tried to hire a car from Disney but the site claimed it was unavailable unless we increased it to 4 days! So we hired one from the DS resort just over the footbridge from the boat dock end.
We used Uber because that’s what we’d used in DC a few years ago.
We don’t drive onsite. DH is the only driver and that was a major reason we bought DVC - so we could stay onsite thus DH did not have to be a chauffeur and could have a beer when he wanted.
Disney need the buses. There isn’t enough parking as it is, let alone if even more guests rent cars.

Our preference is a rental car for two reasons. DH basically tolerates our Disney trips so he likes to get out of the bubble at least once or twice a trip. The second reason is he has a great rental code from National through his company so we get a better price than I’ve ever seen when checking prices.
That being said we mostly use the car to/from the airport and any excursions we do. Going to the parks we use boats, monorail or skyliner, depending where we are staying. Rarely do we take a bus, if that’s the only option we use the car.

At WDW we use the onsite transport so we don't have to worry about a DD and we rarely (extremely) travel off site.

Following! I will need to get transportation for 7 next year from MCO to WDW. Pricing both Mears and other transfer companies. No car on-site. We will be staying at SSR. Is there a rental car place there we could rent a car for a day or two?

Hire desk is in the hotel, just off the main lobby. We took an Uber from MCO to our offsite hotel and then again to WDW the next day.

I only started renting a car after the Disney express stopped. I only have one comment - glorious!! Now, we always rent a car. The car allows for greater flexibility. We now stop at a grocery store on our way to WDW from MCO. We have the option to eat off site. We now mostly drive to AK, EP, and HS. We don’t drive to MK because we’d still have to transfer to Disney transportation at the TTC. Tolls are a cinch with the Visitor Toll Pass.
I won’t say that we will always rent a car, but it is currently our strong preference. BTW, I find the bus service to be just fine. I don’t believe it is degenerating. I’ve actually had much better luck on it than years ago when it seemed we were frequently waiting an eternity and would encounter packed busses. But since I need to pay to get to and from MCO, the rental car jumped into the picture.

I'm not going to vote because we've done, and liked, two of the options. We've been renting a car for some time now, but used Uber/Lyft this last trip (I'd not list them separately as they are very much the same and the best plan is to compare prices on both). For the car, we were really just using it from/to the airport and to AK. other than that, it sat in the lot. Adding in the gas hassle on the way back to the airport, and the savings from not having it, we may like that better and likely will forego the car going forward.
OK, since Lyft wasn't getting any love (and, for some reason, they're separated in this poll), I voted for them as we use them more than Uber since I get better CC benefits. But, really, they're the same.
Cheers.

We greatly prefer to have a car anywhere except BWV. We use the car for all parks except MK for which we use the bus. At BWV we can walk to two parks and of course use the bus for MK. In second place would be Uber which worked very well the last BWV stay. But I really like being in control of my time and choices - and if we have a car we can decide to go elsewhere last minute.

Depends on where we are staying, the price of the rental and our dining plans.
Typically if staying in the MK or Epcot loops, then no rental. We would likely hire a R/T limo. If staying in an off loop location and, or have a couple of hotel dining reservations then yes, we rent a car. Getting from hotel to hotel can be time consuming or expensive when using Disney transportation. I can’t remember the last time we drove to a park…for this Disney transportation is great.
Many times, we check Alamo (skip the line) and if the car rental is cheaper than the limo ride, we will rent the car. If it isn’t, then we refer to the above scenarios. I’d say we end up renting a car about 50% of the time.

We took an Uber from MCO to our offsite hotel and then again to WDW the next day. Any info is really appreciated!! It was AVIS car hire based at the Hilton that’s right next to Disney Springs. We actually rented it for 3 days, took a bus to DS in the morning, walked along to the boat dock and over the footbridge to the Hilton. When we got back from Legoland on the second day we drove back there, left the keys and took a bus back to Bay Lake. The next day was NYE and we reckoned it was easier to return it that day. Even though the desk was technically closed they took the keys and cancelled Day 3 off the rental.

Exactly. Since we almost always stay at BWV or BCV, no need for the car. This trip was VGF and, even then, the car was not needed as 3 parks were easily accessible via walk/monorail/skyliner.
Cheers.

We prefer having a car no matter where we stay. The exception to this is sometimes if the trip is just too short and the cost of a rental is too high. If it turns into that, I will turn to Tiffany town car if it is a solo or just me and my son. If it is a bigger group we will look into Uber/Lyft as well. So first choice for me is rental car, second is a town car, third choice would be rideshare, and absolute last choices something like Mears. I am willing to drive to any park except Magic Kingdom.
Even when I am at an MK or an Epcot resort, the ability to drive to another park like Animal Kingdom or even Hollywood Studios depending is great. There have been times that I have driven effectively right next door because I wanted a quicker in and out and not have to worry about buses or boats. I did it once when it was going to storm and I wanted better control over timing of missing the storm.

Rental preferred with National, then uber or left. With a rental we go shop, check in and leave the luggage in the car til room is ready. Then return to car care center and they will bring you where you want to go on property.
