So just saw a quick video of a DCL ship stopping at the new island Lighthouse Point. OMG the walkway from the ship to the island looks like at least 1 1/2-2 miles!! Videos should be posted today for those interested.

I saw the same, and then read that as of now they do not have a tram to run people to the island. It looks like it needs some shady spots as well, for those walking it.

Videos should be posted today for those interested. I've been watching instagram and it's just under a 1/2 mile from the ship to the tram. The beach location really is not walkable either like the family beach is on Castaway. That's still a bit of a hike but can be done.

Saw on some videos they do offer golf carts for those with mobility issues. It is quite a hike, that's for sure!

I was reading a review that said it took them 30 minutes from disembarking to get to their beach spot. Long walk to tram and very slow moving tram were the culprits. Doesn't sound great as they also said there is no shade on that half mile path.

I don't think that the pier is as big of a mistake as the dvc cabins, but I do think it will be an issue for some. I did some reading and it seems it had to do with environmental issues with coral. But, golf carts for mobility issues will be a bit of a nightmare I'd think with the number of people on the ships. Maybe a shuttle like MCO has for the terminals could have worked? After all, Disney does sometimes makes new rides (maybe waiting another 5 years to complete it though was the problem lol). Solar powered? There is sun is that part of the world. My parents who are nearly 90 and 86 wouldn't be able to do that walk. DH and I do the walk to the family beach on Castaway on the way in, but take the tram on the way back mostly because of the heat in the afternoons and because we are tired from being in the sun. I can't imagine dragging kids back to the ship with that hike from the trams. Then after that, getting on the ship and making it to their staterooms. It's a great place for Minnie Vans. Maybe they will design golf carts for rental...... One of the jokes I saw on a cruise group on Facebook had one of the new port offerings, Segways from the ship to the trams for a steep price too. Overall I have seen positive reviews, but I'm looking forward to reviews from people I know who have been to both islands. The new area for kids looks really fun. People will have their favorites just like with resorts. One of the negatives of the adult beach on Castaway is that it's rocky and we have never gone that far, but our kids did on their cruise and it was rocky when you first go in the water, but then it's fine. They enjoyed it over there. DH and I might make it that far on our next cruise or maybe we won't. We like to people watch and we really don't stay on the island all that long either. The ship is glorious on Castaway day We have only been on the Wish and the Wish is not loved by lots of people. We don't know any other ship so we just don't know any different and we probably won't sail on another ship besides the Treasure in the near future. We might try something else if it sails out of Port Canaveral, but there are lots of things for us that we wouldn't like so I'm not sure that will happen. I'll never get DH to Fort Lauderdale and I'm not too keen on the drive there either. Now that he knows the layout of the Wish, I really don't have the desire to learn a different ship either or a different port & city

I saw some reports on the new island exclusive merchandise. The new Loungefly is now winning for the #1 spot for the ugliest Loungefly bag that I have ever seen, IMO. This means that in another 25 years, it will probably be worth the most because there will not be very many in circulation. I really like the bright colors on the shirts and other items that I have been seeing though.

Our next two cruises, and - according to DH - our last, will be on the Fantasy out of PC to LP and CC. Here's hoping the flies aren't biting NJ green flies and it's not too hot. I specifically selected November and February with the cooler weather in mind. I don't mind walking as it makes me feel like I'm earning my drink of choice. DH is not a 'sitter'. We do prefer the family beach for the people watching. I will have to remember to pack DH's water shoes it it's that rocky.

Our DIL suggested water shoes. It's a small section to get over and then it's fine. DH and I might make it there sometime. He'd rather take another nap though!

I just got off the Fantasy on Saturday and we had two stops at Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. The pier is not as long as it looks, but it is an issue for those with mobility problems, like me, and I was able to grab a ride on a golfcart. It is about 1/2 mile long. Lookout Cary is absolutely beautiful. The water is pristine, can very clearly see all the way to the ocean floor no mater how deep you go. Our first stop there was just magical, no waves and lots of sun. Second stop was after a storm and we had some waves and a bit of seaweed had come along the shore, but not near as bad as I have seen at Castaway Cay at times. Food was very good, we loved the new offerings. Yes, there were flies, but Disney can work on that, maybe putting fans in the pavilions where you eat. Merchandise is adorable--I wanted everything, and bought more than I should have. The bigger kids area is great, with fresh water, lots of adults went down the slides, too. Many options for outside shower and feet rinsing. Multiple bar locations, spread evenly along the resort. It will take some years for the vegetation to develop, but it is already just beautiful. Disney does have some things to work on, but I was surprised that all construction seemed to be done with only details and fine tuning needed going forward. Let's give them a chance before the bashing starts. After visiting Castaway and then Lookout the next day, I can honestly say I think I will prefer Lookout.

The pier is long, but not impossible by any stretch. Its still a much better option than needing to tender over to the island, like the Princess Cruise ships do for their ships at the island. On the link below, you can see the walkway for DCL at the bottom, and the Princess Cruise ship anchored for tendering guests. link

I have successfully talked Mr. Foodie into different ships, longer cruises and therefore….the new island. Now, I need to come out of retirement and work. Overall the reviews have been very good.

Congrats! Still haven’t been able to talk my hubby into a cruise at all (Mr. claustrophobic doesn’t want to be “trapped” on a ship) so looking forward to a trip report.
