Unions at Disneyland avoids strike by approving a new 3-year contract. The deal includes a minimum base wage rate of $24, as part of what the team called "the biggest wage increases ever," with most cast members receiving $6.10 over three years. The new contract also includes an attendance policy and sick leave improvements that give cast members more opportunities to attend to personal issues without fearing discipline.
With the contract approved, that means no strike to disrupt operations at the Disneyland theme parks. Workers had voted to authorize a strike earlier this month, just days before the unions and Disney management reached the tentative deal that union members approved today.

Wow! A $24 minimum base wage. I can't help but think this is the domino effect of the California $20/hr fast food minimum wage. That means the table service workers will make $24/hr + tips.

Nailed it....Because we know that those Disneyland jobs are the very definition of life goals.
The unions representing a diverse set of classifications from custodians and ride operators to candy makers to balloon sellers and merchandise clerks.
So that Mobile merchandise employee that verifies your mobile purchase.....cha ching. Janitor emptying trash bins and drawing broom art....cha ching. You candy apple doer and rice crispy mickey maker.....cha ching. Those ride belt checkers and console button pushers.....cha ching.
Its good to be a Disney Employee. 50% in pay raises of the past 10 years for entry level work.
Let the price adjustments begin!!!

Depends on where you live I suppose. Entry-level jobs should supply a living wage. But what does that mean these days. We did not have to worry about phones and cable bills when I was starting out, among other things. I remember eating a lot of Mac and cheese and ramen to make ends meet. After moving up in the ranks, I had more left over at the end of the week. It was what put a fire in me to work hard and get promotions. I would think that is how you continue to raise above. Or at least that’s how I remember it going for me.
I don’t think $50k a year is poverty level by any means. But apparently in California it very well could be.

In California, it's not that far off. $50k does not go very far in California and I'm very happy for this move to assure that people who have jobs can afford to live within a reasonable commuting distance. Kudos to Disney.
Cheers.
