We spent a few days in WDW before heading to Vero.
Day 1 lunch--Via Napoli. Great service, friendly and professional. Food overall was good, not great. We (DD, DW, me) shared a few apps and the prosciutto/melon pizza. Calamari--fried well, but the breading was a bit heavy; I prefer it very light, like tempura, so I can taste the squid; rings only, no tentacles, to please the masses I assume. Bresaola--really good, easily shareable. Mozzarella caprese--cheese was good, tomato was supermarket level--mealy, under-ripe, flavorless; I expected something more ripe and with flavor; do better Via Napoli. Pizza--a let down; it would have been good, but it was very undercooked, so the crust was soft and chewy, with little flavor; the prosciutto/melon combination is good, and not something I'd order at home.
Day 1 dinner--Flying Fish. Excellent as usual. Excellent service (Chelsea T.), excellent wine, excellent food. FF remains #1 in WDW for me. And when we're staying at BW, I really like the commute time.
Day 2 lunch--HBD Lounge; this is our go to lunch spot in DHS; we always share a bunch of small plates and the Cobb salad. Danielle is an excellent waitress.
Day 2 dinner--Jaleo. A home run. Tasting menu with the Jamon Iberico add on. We had the best waiter we've had in WDW in years. Andrew. The guy knows the menu from top to bottom, the food and the wine. So good that we went back a week later and with the help of Andrew, put our own tasting menu together. We really enjoyed the roaming musicians (guitar, violin and dancer).
Day 3 lunch--Kona Cafe'. We've been leaving MK for lunch more frequently, as we've grown tired of the quick service options. We tend to eat the same thing every time at Kona--pot stickers, wings and a sushi roll--always consistently good.
Day 3 dinner--Topolino's. This dinner made me wonder why it's been so long since we last had dinner here. Menu highlights--the tomato and uni bisque; the braised beef cheek with polenta. The beef cheek is incredible. It's short rib on steroids--more flavor and more tender. Great service, too.
Vero--it's kind of a good food wasteland. We really like El Sid tacos in downtown VB. Ate here twice. Waldo's, right on the beach in VB, was a great view with mediocre food and barely mediocre service. Curfew, in VB but not near the beach, was really good-small plates, shareable plates, great services. We don't eat at Wind and Waves, at the DVC resort, because the menu is stagnant and after eating there twice in the past, we don't need to go back. Also, you can save $$ on breakfast and lunch by walking to Beach Bites, which is in the cluster of buildings at the public beach just north of the resort. Also, Countryside Citrus, just over the causeway, has great ice cream and slushies, and the people who work there are super nice.
