Years past, we used to buy an AP, go for two weeks in the beginning of February, then again two weeks at the end of January the next year. Four weeks of trips on one AP!

I have AP anxiety from Covid, so will likely never give up my AP again. During that time, we gave them up as we were not going. Then, we could not get them back!! That cost us dearly as we had to buy the regular way, which is pricey. Literally was 2 years worth of APs having to buy at retail. So... better to just keep them IMHO as a "pop-up" trip may come up.

We continued to buy (and go) during the pandemic for this reason. Enough anxiety about not being able to get it again. It was definitely worth it to us.
Cheers.

THIS is my biggest issue. DH don't care. He's always commenting on budget but on vacation he's a spender.

We went during the pandemic but learned to enjoy the resorts. We must be in the minority.

I will be buying new APs for at least two of us coming soon to avoid any price increase. But I see zero value in wasting 9 months of an annual pass. You can always purchase a new annual pass at any time and hold on to it for at least a year. If you go further than a year though, you would have to pay for any updates in pricing to the new passes.

We went during the pandemic but learned to enjoy the resorts. We must be in the minority. I very much doubt you were in the minority. It may seem that way on a Disney board like this, but I suspect many DVC owners did resort only trips and used points at Hilton Head/Vero Beach/Aulani. Others held off for a bit and them splurged on bigger units like cabins and 3 bedrooms. Even worse, I suspect many DVC owners had lots of points that ended up expiring.

I'm with you. I don't see the value in wasting several months of an annual pass.

When I checked yesterday, all levels of DLR APs (Magic Key) were available for renewal only. No new sales. When they do go on sale -- the window tends to be short and competitive.

DLR and WDW are totally different beasts. I was speaking only for WDW since that's what the OP was talking about. DLR has a decent history of issues with stopping and starting and even some other ticket types for CA residents. WDW was related to covid and then the revenge travel after. If it were about DLR I would not post since I've never had an AP there - only know of woes from some CA friends.

However, DL runs great SoCal specials each year that I find an annual pass is harder to justify at DL anyway. So not being able to buy an annual pass at DL could be a blessing in disguise.

That's good at least. I've heard of good SoCal prices in the past. One of my friend like 20 years ago got me good prices on tickets being from the area. It was a great trip. I used holding points for the GC and we shared a room. She bought me tickets and such. Total win. Haven't been back since though.

My last Disney AP expired April 2023. I went with a Universal pass for April 2023 - April 2024. Then when that expired, I picked up a Legoland AP for April 2024 - April 2025. With 4 trips to Orlando since my Disney AP expired, I've managed to do two DVC moonlight magic nights plus far more time enjoying the DVC resorts than ever before while still enjoying the bubble for things like fireworks, random character interactions, excellent dining, etc.
I'm sure we will do APs again sometime in the future. FOMO was a thing, which is likely why I stepped down in different APs instead of ditching all theme park APs at once. Right now, it may well be another few years before we pick up Disney APs again. I still love them - just a matter of timing, with more priorities going to different (non Florida) goals in the next two years.
Is it ironic I say that while planning to leave for one more Orlando trip in two weeks? After all, gotta get in that second Legoland visit to make that AP make sense!
