I'm running some stuff on AA just for fun to compare. The same $500 SW flights would run me about $600 on aa with the upgrade to pick a main cabin seat, and without checking bags. If I take a less optimal flight, I can get it for $400 because I can find those w/o the main cabin upgrade, day-of assigned seat, and still no checked bags.

I booked our trip up to Providence/Cape Cod when the new dates came out. The bad news is that it cost us each $750. But the good news is that American would have been over $900/each and United would have been about $1200/each. Plus luggage fees. And if Southwest fares go down between now and then, I can rebook with no change fee. Oh-Southwest and United were my only 2 other options unless I drove 250 miles.

And if Southwest fares go down between now and then, I can rebook with no change fee. FYI, the same is true for AA and UA - no change fees if fare goes down. Just in case they are ever a better fare to start. Cheers.

Before that, DH used to travel a lot for business (he wouldn't ever have to pay the luggage fees, even now) and United was the company's "preferred airline". If they let you rebook if the price goes down (wait-how do they handle your seat assignment if you rebook?), we might look into it.

Then the airlines all kept it going forward. If you rebook to same flight for a price drop, seats should remain the same. if you move to a different flight, of course, you have to pick from what's available there. Same as will likely be true for WN soon
Cheers.
