Just saw this posted on WDW News Today. Sorry, I can’t seem to post link to article.
Trail’s End Restaurant Ending Table Service, Closing to Become Quick Service in Spring 2023 at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort
Quote from article—-
Trail’s End Restaurant is a part of Pioneer Hall at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, having began as a table service restaurant when the building first opened in 1974. The restaurant will close sometime this spring to become a marketplace-style quick service outlet, bringing an end to nearly half a century of sit-down dining at Pioneer Hall. An exact reopening date is not known other than “later this year.”
So sad, we ate at Trails End every trip. Best breakfast deal at WDW! Not sure what will take its place for July and November trips.

Bummer if this is true!!!! Granted I have been there when it was buffet and not and still loved it. I wonder if this is what they feel they need to do there though. Trails end was never terribly busy for us. Still super bummed about this.

I actually had dinner there tonight! I wonder if our server knew? This is sad because dinner at Trail's End has been a part of our Disney trip routine for many years now. I'll be interested in seeing what the new place is like.

It was our family's first night meal every trip. I thoroughly enjoyed their food. This one hurts in the cutback department.

We would go when it was buffet and see the same servers year after year, and they would talk about recognizing people who came frequently. There's no way they would remember us because we only came once or twice a year, but we would watch the servers go to other tables of people they clearly recognized from frequent visits.
Also, they had a thing where if it was someone's birthday or anniversary, the most outgoing server they had (I can see his face) would come out and ring one of those triangular shaped bells you see hanging on the porch in westerns. Well one time he was ringing it and it broke, one of the three legs of the triangle fell off. We all had a good laugh.
Their sweet tea - holy smokes. It must have been all sugar. The servers would send me home with a "to-go" cup. And for some reason I always had to get a single piece of the pizza off the buffet. And we always joke about what mac and cheese is topped with - Trail's End would often have a pan of it topped with bread crumbs, and right next to it - a pan topped with Goldfish crackers.

Huge disappointment. I, too, was waiting for the buffet to come back. Big mistake, Big, big mistake.

This is very sad news. When we first started going to WDW it was to stay in Fort Wilderness, first trip was January 1975, eek! It was a great treat to go to Trail’s End. Over the years we found other places to enjoy but it will always be our first Disney dining experience. Now I’m hoping to get over to it next trip.

Still have never been. Definitely won’t if/when it transitions to quick service.
A shame, indeed, but unfortunately many prefer this dining style.

The end of an era. Although we didn’t go every trip we did visit several times over the years. Sad to see it go.
