I fly a couple of time a year and almost always on Southwest. I have a long weekend trip to WDW planned for the end of July. Today I found some great fares on Frontier for my travel dates. I understand the added fees for bags and seats. My DD and family are driving and will bring my bag. I always fly and meet them. I am just concerned as I’ve never flown Frontier before. Opinions please.

No WiFi on Frontier if that matters to you. Seats less padded. Tray more metal.

If you have no where to be exactly on time they are fine to fly.

I thought Frontier also had the situation where they might have just a few flights in a day so if the flight was cancelled, it may be a few days before you can get on another flight with them.

That would be a hard no for me. I am considering Spirit airlines. I need to see how many flights fly out per day with them.

We've not flown Frontier and, while we fly Southwest infrequently, and only on certain routes, we fly them where they are basically bus service in having many flights to the destination daily (and we never, ever do connections on WN), so we will get there.
Cheers.

I've flown Frontier once and didn't care for it but it could have been worse. Definitely a peg lower than Southwest.
Seats are cramped and everything costs extra. If I were travelling solo without bags and it was a direct flight under 3 hours AND it was significantly cheaper than alternatives I might consider it again. If you are a big person though, i would avoid it. Too uncomfortable and the bathroom is incredibly narrow.

I thought Frontier also had the situation where they might have just a few flights in a day so if the flight was cancelled, it may be a few days before you can get on another flight with them. I have encountered this issue more than once on Frontier so it does indeed happen. One of the times I was traveling from Denver to visit family for a weekend and they couldn't get me to my destination till midweek. They offered me a refund, and the process for this worked well, but I still did not get to visit my family. The second time I was flying home from a trip and this flight was also canceled. In this case I could not get back home for several days. I ended up having to buy a last minute one way ticket to get home which was quite expensive. Again, they refunded my money, but I ended up spending quite a bit more. As a result I just don't think it's worth the risk.

Flew one roundtrip flight with Frontier. As Brian mentioned, seats are incredibly uncomfortable. By the second hour, felt like sitting on a wood bench. On the way home, we were delayed but didn’t know why as the plane was there and good weather. Just kept getting a text every 30 minutes pushing take off time back. ZERO employees at the podium. Felt like we were abandoned. Six hours later, a few employees showed and immediately started loading us on the plane. One and done.

I've flown Frontier and Spirit many times. If you don't have bags, they're fine. They're a discount airline. This involves an upcharge for every detail they can get you for, hoping to catch you needing to buy a bag spot at the gate, and pressure tactics to get more out of you. That's where they make their money. I probly wouldn't do a big family vacation w them cuz of the bags, fewer options, and less predictability but for my wife or I to fly somewhere bagless it would be fine. Since this is just you I don't see a reason not to go for it. Worst case your family gets there and enjoys the new ride.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I no longer gamble with discount airlines. We only have MSP within reasonable driving distance, which is dominated by Delta. Our "hometown" airline is Sun Country. They used to be great! I have long lost faith in Southwest. Strand me once..... I'm actually not sure, but I think Spirit and Frontier are both here. I have a Delta branded AmEx and can usually "buy down" Delta's prices to meet the discount airlines with my accrued miles, plus free bags because of my card. I feel the reliability of Delta vs. discount airlines at MSP is worth it.

Frontier has become an option for us since SWA has cut NS flights PHL to MCO, so we've flown Frontier a bunch of time over the last few years. Given a choice, I'd choose SWA every time. I'm 6'2" and the leg room on Frontier is a problem for me. I usually pay for an aisle seat so I can stretch my legs occasionally. The seats are uncomfortable. The 2 hours in the air PHL to MCO is about my limit. On time departure/arrival has been pretty good on Frontier. The only delays we've had were weather related. A good point already mentioned is to look at the Frontier schedule for your route. Make sure there are daily flights, just in case your scheduled flight is delayed/canceled.

Our "hometown" airline is Sun Country. They used to be great! We fly out of MSP, too, and always on Delta. They are the only game in town for direct flights to Florida. When I was a kid, we always flew Northwest for the same reason. Wife and I used to go Sun Country all the time, loved the relaxed attitude and affordable first class. But the owners sold it (used to be the brothers that own Cambria countertops) and now they are just another cheapo-airline. That said, my mom still flies Sun Country to Arizona. One day recently, with prices being so high, I was toying with the idea of other airlines. I happened to see a flight on Spirit that didn't look bad...until I noticed it was at like 10:30pm and landed at two in the morning or whatever. Nah.

Opinions please. I've flown on Frontier 3 times and DH has once. DH told me he never wants to use them again but I think that's only because he's resistant to anything new. Frontier's seats are brick hard, don't recline and the 'table' is more of a ledge, plus all beverages (even water) are available for a price. For a short flight they are totally usable. They tend to run behind as the day goes on. While they wouldn't be my first choice, I do think they are a choice.
