I fly a couple of time a year and almost always on Southwest. I have a long weekend trip to WDW planned for the end of July. Today I found some great fares on Frontier for my travel dates. I understand the added fees for bags and seats. My DD and family are driving and will bring my bag. I always fly and meet them. I am just concerned as I’ve never flown Frontier before. Opinions please. We have always flown Southwest to MCO but prices have been creeping up so much I decided to go with the cheaper fares I saw with Frontier. But with the additional baggage fees and what not for 3 of us it wasn't that much cheaper. I had been feeling uneasy about it and then yesterday got an email from Frontier that both arrival and departure flights were cancelled and I could rebook or get a refund. I took that as a sign and quickly hit refund and booked with Southwest!

Have flown both Frontier and Spirit exclusively as they are the main nonstop flights from Cleveland currently. I prefer Spirit over Frontier for both plane comfort but also the gate location at MCO. Last year Spirit was having multiple issues with staffing, computer software problems, flight cancellations, etc but seems to have things under better control currently. Frontier now seems to be going through those same issues currently and are frequently cancelling/rescheduling/consolidating flights. We are scheduled to fly with them the first week of April (they were cheaper then Spirit by $400 overall and the flight times worked better when we booked). We have had our itinerary change twice thus far but they were manageable changes (moving a flight out 2 hours on our return and our outgoing moved out 1 hour). Hoping for the best when our departure day arrives!

We used Frontier for the first time last year from MCO to PHX. We took off on time, but boarding was total chaos. There was a passenger that thought since he paid all the extra Frontier fees that he was entitled to get on the plane first. There were a handful of wheelchairs to needing to be boarded. The airline personnel did their best to restrict people from boarding and get the handicap on first. After that, the crowd pressed their way to the gangway. Gate personel did their best to scan boarding pass. I am sure they missed some. Give me SWA cattle call any time.

Thanks to everyone who shared information. I waited to book and Frontier’s rate went up, but today I found a fare I could live with for a non-stop flight on Southwest. Not the greatest time, a late evening flight. Decided to fly in one day earlier.

I personally would never fly Frontier. Prior to the holiday debacle I flew SW. They do not seem to have recovered since then. My son flew SW last night and had a 4.5 hr delay. I am using United in the future.

I was concerned flying Southwest last week as we were flying into Dallas one day after the 70 mph winds there had cancelled flights. But everything went very smoothly. We have not experienced issues with them and fly them almost exclusively since I have a companion pass. I will say that the terminal area in MCO where Frontier is located is a total zoo. That alone would keep me away. I am one that will not use Frontier or Spirit.

FWIW, DD and DW flew Frontier PHL-MCO for the Tron preview and had zero issues both ways.
DD flew on Frontier PHL to PHX last night and had a good flight.
The issues we read about seem to be hit or miss. My biggest concern using Frontier would be lack of flights in case of a long delay or cancellation. This is why we use PHL and not TTN. Frontier at PHL has a lot of flights daily. TTN does not.

I am using United in the future. Delays have always happened with WN. However, we've been in airports a couple of times recently and their performance seemed quite good on the boards. While they still have work to do on their infrastructure, it seems that they have definitely recovered from that. we don't fly hem on many routes (really just SJC-LAS), but we already have two trips booked,
Cheers.

We usually fly SWA. I have not booked fronteir due to the poor reviews. SWA, for the most part, has been really good. Also, once you add up all the Frontier fees, the final cost is similar to SW.

Just to add to this, we flew out of MCO yesterday with no weather issues that I'm aware of and no flights were late. In fact we pushed off early and landed about 20 minutes early. If there are weather delays I never fault the airline. But across the board no flights were late out of my section of the airport. All WN flights. Locally Frontier has been rough for years. They don't offer enough flights to make it safe for me to want to fly. Very few do non stop to where I want to go. Even fewer do more than one flight a day. Some only a few days a week.

To Orlando I pretty much fly Frontier exclusively nowadays, just tried spirit for the first time in January and it was fine also.
I have given up all hope of flying American Airlines & Southwest any more - I book and they reschedule or reroute constantly than want to charge more to get back the original flights I had.
When flying to Orlando I can definitely fly with a backpack thanks to owners locker but our DLR trip I choose to check a bag and it was still a bargain $75 r/t for ticket and $50 total for luggage. So nonstop round trip to lax total was $175. Personally I have learned to live with the cheap flights as it means I can travel more.
