I've been pulled aside by TSA at MCO before. I use a wheelchair so I always get screened. This time the damn scanner tripped on me and another passenger. It was just a false alarm but they pulled me aside for the extra special screening. Which basically means you strip down to everything but your skivvies and then they feel you up. But it's inside a private room so no one else can see it. Very humiliating. I always a lot an hour to get through security. I just never know what kind of bullshit they're going to come up with next. And yes they are woefully trained. It's just theater.

To add on to the OP's compliments for Southwest--I flew home yesterday from MCO. We had a small delay while they worked on the PA system and no one could board because they were working in the doorway area of the plane. The pilot came off the plane and was talking to all the kids, being very friendly, then when it came time to board, he actually pushed one of the many wheelchair passengers down the gangway as there weren't enough Southwest staff to take them all. I thought this was over and above his responsibilities and brought back some of my confidence I had been losing in Southwest.

So sorry to hear. Unfortunately MCO needs a lot of improvement. I also have clear and TSA and my bad experience was that clear/TSA was not available or open at the time of my needing to check in. This was for a 6 am flight.

Wow...that sounds like quite the story. That will be a memorable story you'll remember for quite awhile.
We have one of those too from seven years ago that happened in Seattle when my son was two. We were coming home from Disneyland and had to connect flights in Seattle. We got to the connecting gate and wait and wait and wait to board the plane. Finally we get to board. I'm not sure how behind schedule we were at this point...probably in the 30min range. This is about a 30min flight home. The original arrival time home for us I think would have been about 3pm or so. We sit on the plane and hear the clunking of the bags. And we wait....and wait....and wait. Finally after about 45min the captain tells us they are having trouble with a security clearance and they are trying to get it sorted out. More waiting. My son is getting hungry and grouchy by now...we didn't get any food as we were supped to be home 30min ago. Another 30min passed and the captain tells us 'well, somebody in maintenance didn't check through security properly before servicing this aircraft. All the bags will need to be unloaded and rescreened and all of us need to deplane and go to the front of SeaTac and proceed through security. This includes the whole cabin crew' You could tell he was upset. So we wait for like 15 minutes for buses to come get us and take us clear around SeaTac on the scenic route back to the front of the airport so we can all go through security again. Everyone passes through and make our way back to the gate and board back on the plane. Again, we get to hear the lovely sound of the baggage clunking. At long last, we finally get to go. By now my son is fighting mad and midway through the flight, he decided he had had enough and blew chunks. We finally made it home....three hours late.

This was for a 6 am flight. Have been noticing they're opening precheck lanes later and closing them earlier. Our last trip precheck closed at 7:00PM. They sent us to the "late night TSA precheck lane" which turned out the be just the regular line on the far right side. Maybe staffing issues?

I do not think this is right being we are paying for it. Especially Clear!

We have Precheck. On Saturday at MCO I got flagged for additional screening after going through the standard metal detector. I went through the body scanner, flagged again. They said it was the shorts I was wearing. My pockets were empty. I have no idea why a pair of cargo shorts from Kohls would set off the scanner.

I have a pair of cargo shorts that I have learned not to wear on airport day - it has this certain lump of fabric that is sewn in the pocket, kind of like it's bunched up when it got stitched, or multiple layers or something, and the scanners think I am carrying something. Ditto with another pair that has a spare button sewn into the pocket.
I have a bit of a belly and so like alot of men, my pants/shorts ride kind of low; the TSA guy suggested one time to me that it's helpful if I hike them up right before going in the scanner, then it doesn't scan funny "down there". Seems to work.

I walk over to a TSA agent and ask how to get to our gate, and he says I need to leave and go back through security at another terminal. I asked why the signs all say All Gates were accessible there, and he said he doesn't know, but it's causing some problems, and they need to change it. I made that same mistake last time I was at MCO! Thankfully, we didn't experience an aggressive, irate traveler or an infuriatingly slow TSA agent. But I did get the hairy eyeball from my kids when I told them we had to turn around and go through security again.

My mother-in-law said she did the exact same thing at that airport. She used to go to Orlando all the time and was surprised when she did it. I told her it happens because the flashing signage says “All Gates” with an arrow pointing there. I knew it wasn’t the way we usually went, but I thought maybe something was going on at the other security area and that’s why the lines were so long. Ugh. Thanks for sharing. Makes me feel less like a dolt.
