July 2020: the “No One Is at Disney” Trip Report
Today is March 3, 2023, and this is my first Trip Report on the new MagicOwners website! I’m no stranger to photo trip reports, having done many of them on various platforms in the past (some of you old timers might recognize my style). Hope everyone enjoys this one.
When: July 16-24, 2020 – the week on or after Disney reopened from Covid shutdown Where: Polynesian and BLT split stay (I am exclusively a BLT owner, but I love the Poly) Who: Me, DW, DD21, DD15 Equipment: Sony A7Riv with 24-105/4 and Tamron 70-350 for long shots, plus Sony RX1RM2
I’m not much for a lot of words in a trip report because I generally like to let the photos do the talking…so I do not plan to make this “chatty”. However, I think it does need an introduction before you scroll through the photos:
The last trip report I published (which was on another forum) was from a trip a few weeks before the Covid shutdown, and so now I’ll pick up where I left off, with this trip from the week (or slightly later) when the Parks opened back up with a ton of social distancing and wearing of masks even outside when strolling through the parks. I named this report “No One Is at Disney” because as you will see from my photos, I’ve never seen the parks so desolate since I started visiting back in the post 9/11 world when things were not crowded. There was a lot of afternoon rain (it was July) but that was bearable because of the incredibly low crowds. You’ll see one photo later where the standby time at FoP was 15 minutes (it was actually less).
Our trip started with our arrival at the Poly:
Notice how pretty much NO ONE was at Capt Cooks…
We had a lake view from our room at the Poly:
Fun fact: in the room directly behind this screen, the documents were signed that officially ended The Beatles:
Notice the masks, gloves, and plastic shield:
This is the ‘quiet pool’ at the Poly, in case you’ve never seen it:

Great pictures!!! Thank you for taking the time and sharing.
We were there October 2020. Definitely a strange/weird feeling being there around that time.

Continuing our trip through the Magic Kingdom:What made so many rides take so long was the CMs having to sanitize the ride vehicles after each ride. They would spray down the train cars, then run it empty one time, then let people on for a ride, then repeat. This cut capacity by 50% or more. Geez…Sadly, all of the character interaction became “socially distant”; I’m glad that now things are back to normal.…TO BE CONTINUED…

Those pictures of Splash Mountain are wonderful. Iconic really and so sad it’s all gone. I am thoroughly enjoying your photos.

We were there twice in 2020! It was fabulous! Our daughter was supposed to be in the College Program, but she was sadly cancelled due to the pandemic. When she was accepted, we booked two trips to visit her, late-September 2020 and Christmas 2020. Food and Wine and Christmas with NO CROWDS were the most Magical Vacations ever!
She was so disappointed that she couldn't be part of the CP. They gave her a certificate and allowance to list it on her resume. She really wanted that Name Badge! She was invited back for CP and also secured an internship, but she had already taken a wonderful job at Caterpillar (she's an Industrial Engineer).
Thanks for sharing these fabulous photos! I have some really great ones in front of all the Disney Christmas trees with masks on.
