We own OKW, we love vacationing at OKW. We will be 65 and 66 years old when OKW expires, still young enough to want to keep going. But maybe old enough that by then we would at Margaritaville or something. If they sent me an email today saying "OKW owners extend your contract" I would definitely be considering it, but not at the $150/pt number being thrown around...that's crazy talk. I wish I could go back in time and give the (then current) owners of my contracts the menial amount of money it would have taken to extend our OKW contracts. Was it really $15? It really was $15 then went to $25.

It really was $15 then went to $25. It's almost unbelievable that it would be so low; they must have been dying for cash

Probably not for us as we'd be in our middle 80's, but if we were younger.... Caveat, if the kids wanted us to extend to have the home advantage and the cost was acceptable (says the person who purchased 30 points in 2018 at $225/pt).... This was my thinking. Lets say we paid $60 points for our original points in 2002. The $150 add on has us up to 2062 and a total cost of $200 per point. Not an unreasonable ask for DVC. And would allow me to tsf them to my adult children.

Well I am not waiting for expiry. There is a lot of equity in our points. I am up almost 2x what I paid. I will track these prices as we get closer to expiry. When I see they start to pull back to say 1.5 what we paid I will sell and roll it into a new young contract for the kids. Sure I maybe need to pay up some to fill a gap on the number of points we have but I rather use the equity to leave a legacy. We are mid 40s and own SSR. So we get to see what happens to 2042 contracts first. See how bad they mess that up.

Like others have mentioned, we will also be getting up there in age, so I do not think that we would pay to extend.

When they rolled out the OKW extension, I remember thinking if it was offered for BCV then I would probably want to do that. Now, I am not sure. Especially at that price. Maybe in the $30-50 per point range I could find it palatable?
We will be 68 when our points at BCV expire, and hopefully we are still active and able to enjoy with our kids/grandkids. BCV is the one contract I have repeatedly told my husband a firm "no" when he talks about selling a contract. I would consider selling one of our SSR, just not sure if the smaller or larger contract.

Let's not forget every who paid to extend made their payment for the extension in 2007-2008 making it a 35 year wait that there money was being used by DVC before they could start staying on vacations with the extra amount they paid.

Yes. Exactly how this is supposed to work. Disney offers something in advance at a good rate. Guests see an advantage and pay.
Disney uses their money during this time.
Well-planned on the part of Disney.
cheers.

Seems that is what we are all doing when buying these timeshares. Paying for years upfront that we may not ( and probably won’t) use.

Earlier I posted that we wouldn’t extend but I guess one caveat would be if the price to extend increased the resale value of the contract so it would make sense to do it then sale the contract with the extension.

Yeah, this occurred to me earlier in the thread as the only reason I would do this. We'll be 82 in 2042. But, if I can get something back...
cheers.

Exactly. This location will continue to be desirable. Plus we have grandkids who could inherit the contracts who would most certainly use them.

Resale pricing is independent from direct. The real factor that is responsible for holding and or increasing resale prices is ROFR. And right now, Disney is taking nothing back. It is virtually non existent. So, that in itself negates any perceived benefit an extension “ may” provide.
