So I have an Alaska cruise coming up in six weeks ( retirement cruise!). Pull out some clothes to start packing…..they are almost all Disney! T-shirts, sweat shirts, purses, etc!! Now I have to last minute shop! Ugg…..

Will do! Exact same ship for us but a few months later. We’re also going to explore the Pacific NW a bit after the trip because we’ve never been there. We’ll be gone for 2 weeks by the time we get home! It’ll be the 1 week-long cruise and 1 week exploring. |

Will definitely be interesting to follow this. I've never done a cruise there, but have visited several times for maybe 5 or 6 weeks total. This was all on-land with a locally-born friend. I will be interested to see what sort of things are accessible from the cruise.

TexasChick Since you’re sailing NCL Encore, we are in a club balcony suite, but I put in a bid for the Haven. It was the lowest bid possible so don’t know my odds, but ya never know!! What is a bid for a Haven suite? We are in a regular balcony suite I think on the 11th or 12th deck. The Haven didn't make sense for us because they kids can't use one of the pools. Also, we booked 3 cabins, one for us, one for the kids, and one for our moms. It was just cost prohibitive. I am not as informed on this one because I used a travel agent. I've only been on 2 other cruises in my life, so I gave the reins to someone else on this one. Are you booking any signature dining meals? We can't book anything yet, but 2 of them come with our package. |

TexasChick We are sailing under the “ Free at Sea” promo. It includes unlimited alcohol up to $15/drink, sodas, coffee ( not Starbucks), 300 min Wifi, $50 of excursions, 2 Signature dinings. Because we booked a club balcony suite, we got to reserve our Specialty dining a little in advance ( 120 days out I think?) So basically when we made final payment I was able to book our dining. Did it all through the NCL app. You will get an email to see if you would like to bid to upgrade your room. So probably your bid would be for a club balcony suite, or maybe a 2 bedroom family balcony room. The next step up for you. Since the next step up for us was the Haven, I put a bid in for that. You will see what the minimum bid is to put in, but you can always bid higher to increase your chances. So basically this Haven upgrade would be regularly $5000 more dollars but I only bid 1,000. There are still 4 rooms left in the category Haven I bid on. They look at the bid 2 weeks out, but you might not even know if you got the bid as late as the day before you sail. Like I said, I made the lowest bid, but ya never know! Look at the Haven on NCL website. You can not pick your room, and it’s automatic so no saying no. Any more questions just ask!

I don’t think it’ll work for us unfortunately to upgrade because we are staying in a room connected to our kids. Have fun! The weather can be hit or miss. We went a few years ago on Princess and had a great time. I think it was mid-July and they were having a heat wave in Seattle when we embarked. We had warm sunny weather much of the time. It was 80 degrees and sunny in Juneau, but Ketchikan was rainy as usually and cold.
Looking forward to the day I can retire and take advantage of the last minute fares on the 10 day AK cruises from San Francisco.

We had warm sunny weather much of the time. It was 80 degrees and sunny in Juneau, but Ketchikan was rainy as usually and cold. Looking forward to the day I can retire and take advantage of the last minute fares on the 10 day AK cruises from San Francisco. That would save you so much! The cost of our airfare from the east coast to the west, well let me just say it was unbelievably expensive. The fact that you are so close, do it! |

Of course I had the family pack all sorts of warm clothes and my sons never let me hear the end of it. We met a couple who had done the same cruise the year before and they said it was so cold and rainy they couldn't enjoy the glaciers, etc. So we were really lucky. It is so beautiful I am glad we had that weather! |

We are cruising on Encore the end of May, for our 30th anniversary. We never had a honeymoon, and have never really celebrated any anniversary in a big way, so this year we decided to splurge. This will be the biggest trip we have done in our years together.
Haven Spa Suite.
We have never been to Alaska, so this is a bucket list kind of trip.
Have not yet booked any of the specialty restaurants, I am trying to come up with an itinerary of sorts and take in to consideration our excursions, and anticipate how I will be feeling physically on those days given my health issues. I get wiped out very easily.
We opted to book our own airfare, again owing to my health issues. Thought it would be better to have more control there.
Super excited for this trip.
Fingers crossed for you on your Haven bid!
