Hello everyone,
I am thinking of booking the Barcelona cruise using the DVC rental store to swap points. Has anyone on this board used them? If so, what was your experience?

I haven't, but I am wondering what you mean to "swap" points"? Are you meaning to have them rent your points for you and then pay you for them? Or is there some other option?

I know David’s advertises this but did not know DVC Rental Store does this. Can you post the requirements to do so?

Interesting, I didn't know they did this either. Learn something new every day.

If I am reading it correctly, you have to rent your points thru DVC Rental store first before the cruise is booked? Then they book your cruise with cash from the rental. It’s not like you transfer your points to them then they book your cruise. That’s kinda what your lead to believe from the “ Swap” title.

Speaking from experience, I recommend you rent out the points on your own and then book the cruise with the cash. I used David’s to do the cruise swap thing a couple years ago and then got caught in the whole Covid cancellation MESS. While the chances are slim something like that will happen again, why invite that complication into the mix. It was very stressful.

So these guys are double dipping off of you. They rent your points and take a cut. Then they book your cruise as your travel agent and take another cut. Its a win-win for them.
I recommend that you rent the points yourself, keep more of the money. Then use a Travel Agent that you are comfortable with that will also give you an On Board Credit. This will save you the most money.

I have to agree with this. That was going to be my next question to them. Wether or not they offer a shipboard credit. Probably not.

I have met David many of times and I had meet Paul (founder of DVC Rental Store) also many of times. The current owner of the Rental Store is a Club member. Both run very good business and are a great asset for many DVC members and non-members. David had a lot of issues because of the Covid, but seems to have recovered.
So my recommendation has nothing against either of them, but more of what I think is best (profitable) to you, the DVC member. There are many people who don't want to put in the extra work, not comfortable renting points or don't have the time. For them, using one of their services is the best route.

I had used David’s pre-Covid because I just wasn’t comfortable with the thought of doing it myself. When I ended up paying back more than I had got from David’s because of the exchange rate, it stung badly. After venting about it I got a PM asking me if they could rent them. And I agonised over saying yes and then afterwards, even though she was a regular poster. I have no idea why I was so worried, I don’t know what I thought might have happened. In the end it worked out great, we became friends and met up last year in Edinburgh (she was from Canada). After that experience I rented them myself again the following year and would happily do so again if I needed to. But it seemed so daunting the first time that I understand why people don’t want to do it themselves.
