So Iger says Disney will invest $17 Billion in new attractions in FL. www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2023/04/04/disney-ceo-promises-additional-17-billion-investment-in-florida/So, where will that go. How far? I know Galaxies Edge cost $1 Billion by itself and that was pre-covid pricing before recent goods and labor inflation. Not sure what Tron cost but I do know it took 4 years to build while the whole MK park took 18 months. so, How far and where will $17 Billion go? Another major ride at AK to expand Avatarland? More investment in Epcot? If so, is it new or is it a replacement? If MK, what happens. Is Tiana cost included in that $17B? Thoughts?

17 billion over what period of time? 5 years or 10 or 20 years? I feel that Disney is going to have to make some major changes just to keep up with the changes that Universal is making if they want to maintain the market share, they now have.

Agreed, that it'll likely be over a period. Also agreed that Universal is making huge investments. However... We just spent the last day of our most recent trip at Universal, and they are nothing alike. Constant complaining, a need for cleaning up, and general bad vibes - and that was just the staff members working there!

I’d like to know if the $17 billion is for attractions or just in general. I didn’t hear it from Bob’s mouth. They are doing construction on roads all the time that’s why I say that. Those new fly overs by the Grand had to cost a bit. I do like them though.

Definitely some room for expansion. Not so sure about Pandora as the open space makes the place nice. Trying to cram in too much would detract, IMO.
Epcot is still under major construction with Future World being completely re-envisioned. I'd certainly wait to see how that shakes out before trying anything new. But I'd definitely make sure not to skimp in spending in the final phases of the existing work.
Cheers.

I believe Bob also said that Moana is it for Epcot. I’d just like it to not have walls at this point.

Started watching a video this morning on youtube but clicked out after about a minute because it was the same ole stuff, just in a video form for people who couldn't be bothered to read it. But they said that according to Disney, once the Moana Water thing is opened at Epcot, the "multi-year transformation" of Epcot will be complete.
Which of course makes me sad for all the awesome stuff they said they planned for Epcot at that thing in the old Odyssey Restaurant. But anyways.

Just spoke to a buddy who is a behind the scenes Cast Member and he says everyone he works with is talking 5th gate. It’s not only the billions he says but the 13000 jobs Iger mentioned. He says that could only come with a new park.

Would need to look, but was it "the parks" or in FL. The latter could include the new Poly DVC or any new hotel/DVC, following through with the new Lake Nona campus, the low income housing project they announced, .... It could be spent very quickly without a significant impact on the parks, let alone fifth gate. The jobs number is what makes this intriguing.

Ok, just reread. It was $17 B over 10 years so only $1.7 per year on average. That is not a 5th gate...and likely not even a new land by the time you factor in road construction etc.

Len Testa made an interesting point on his podcast this week:
MK (first FL park) opened 1971 AK (last FL park) opened 1998
That's 27 years. It's been 24 years since the last park opened. Makes you wonder if there will ever be a 5th gate. I'm hopeful, though, that they will. I think it's going to be needed to continue competing with Universal - I think that Nintendo land will be wildly popular there.

How far will $17 Billion go? Let's consider some technologically-centered examples. The USS Gerald R. Ford nuclear aircraft carrier finally clocked in at $13 Billion, although its coming sister ships are expected to be less expensive (Source: www.stripes.com/branches/navy/2022-12-18/uss-gerald-r-ford-capabilities-costs-8462639.html#:~:text=%E2%80%9CThis%20will%20be%20the%20most,cost%20overshadowing%20the%20Ford's%20capabilities. ) As another point of comparison, at www.nasa.gov/press-release/as-artemis-moves-forward-nasa-picks-spacex-to-land-next-americans-on-moon , NASA asserts: "The agency’s powerful Space Launch System rocket will launch four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft for their multi-day journey to lunar orbit. There, two crew members will transfer to the SpaceX human landing system (HLS) for the final leg of their journey to the surface of the Moon. After approximately a week exploring the surface, they will board the lander for their short trip back to orbit where they will return to Orion and their colleagues before heading back to Earth. "The firm-fixed price, milestone-based contract total award value is $2.89 billion." So, one answer is "around the world on the most advanced nuclear-powered aircraft carrier now afloat", and another is "from an Orion capsule orbiting the moon to the lunar surface and back, in five different, pre-positioned SpaceX HLS landers." A third answer is that $17 B will cover almost two years of the National Science Foundation's budget. I hope Mickey and his clientele get their money's worth! But then, I hope that the USN, NASA, and NSF -- and their respective clienteles -- do too.

How far will $17Billion go? Well give it to my DW and set her loose at Home Goods, Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Target, Michael's...and Disney gift shops. I'm sure she could spend more than $1.7B a year with no problem for 10 years.

Everyone always gets all excited at the prospect of a "5th gate," including me, but that really seems like a pipe dream at this point. It's easy to just say "never gonna happen" and the odds will probably favor you being right, but I sure hope it's wrong and that they're considering it!
Reminds me of the church I used to be a member of for 30+ years that had 3-hour meetings every Sunday. It was *so* long (especially as a kid), and everyone was always quick to spread any inkling of rumors of them going to 2-hour meetings for literally decades, but it was always just wishful-thinking.
Well wouldn't you know it, a few years after I left, they actually finally, legitimately changed to 2-hour meetings! I was kinda mad lol!
I guess the moral of the story is: sell your DVC and stop going to Disney, and they'll finally announce their 5th gate!
