TOM!!!! Fancy seeing you here. I miss hanging out with you guys in Disney. You know I left my train garden up so I could enjoy it when I got home. Can't believe I don't get to go back until September.☹️ Labor Day weekend for us......then end of September, so our paths may cross (I think they will). Do going to WDW for 6 months is a long stretch for us. Even when Covid Pandemic broke out, that stretch away was 6 months. I am thinking that we will sneak in a quick weekend to WDW in June.....we will see. Lets try and arrange a get together in the couple of months. Oh it would be awesome to meet up with you in September. I'll be at Bay Lake from Sunday September 24th. Probably with my brother in tow. Hopefully my sister too. 6 months is hard to do without Disney but I remind myself it's summer and way too hot for me in Florida. Plus I have Ocean City to keep me entertained.

It just occurred to me that we may not be able to buy a DVC annual pass for our 19-year-old daughter because she’s not an “owner.” The last time we got the DVC annual pass was before the pandemic so she hadn’t hit 18 yet. She still living with us at home as a college student. Anyone know if there’s a cutoff age?

Awesome, thanks. That's a relief. All the talk about adding kids as owners to contracts made me worried.

Awesome, thanks. That's a relief. All the talk about adding kids as owners to contracts made me worried. As long as her ID or license has your address she will not have a problem. Our DS went with some friends and I texted my license pick to him and he was able to activate his AP without me even being with him.

Yes that's the nice thing about how this works. It's household members of owners who are entitled to get the discount. Not family members. That's an interesting distinction.
What complicates matters is when those children grow up and move out. Having independence means they cannot be covered under the umbrella of your perks. Which is why many of us are considering adding the adult children to our contracts. We want to share the love.
I have a nephew who is a Marine. He's been overseas and out of the house for several years now but his official permanent address is my house. So I'll be getting him an annual pass when they reopen. (He's coming back this summer and he may be ending his enlistment next year. Either way he's got four years of Disney trips to make up for.)

WDW and DL Passes may only be purchased by Members for themselves and their immediate family living in their household, up to a total of eight (8) per year. So it explicitly states immediate family. Which does include partners, children and in this case grandchildren. But it is not for every person in the house. Roommates and even nephews are not meant to be included. Just an FYI.

I stand corrected. Well in this case we gave ourselves plenty of options because all of my siblings are members. And as long as they're children still call their residence home, they get benefits. We're actually talking about adding the kids to our contracts so that they can be members in their own residences. But it's complicated. We have a lot of contracts and two different memberships. And there are nine children to consider. It's something that we're thinking about for down the road. One day those kids will inherit the DVCs anyway. It's a gift from their grandfather. Grandpa Mohawk was a very generous man who loved his family.

Is the AP better than the Salute tickets?

The hiccup on this might be that the children must be underage or share the same permanent address as their parents. So if the nephew's residence falls under his parents' contact address then you are fine. Very generous gift Grandpa Mohawk gave! With the online sales it will be interesting to see how everything is verified.

So if the nephew's residence falls under his parents' contact address then you are fine. Very generous gift Grandpa Mohawk gave! With the online sales it will be interesting to see how everything is verified. Yes the nephew is in the military so his official permanent address is his father's. Actually both of my brother's sons have a permanent address of their fathers. And if I'm not mistaken the way they verify is when you activate. You actually go to guest relations with your photo ID. And as long as you're photo ID matches the address of the account holder on file, there's not really a problem. It also helps that we have a unique Polish last name. It was never questioned before. And yes Grandpa Mohawk was a very generous man. When he and I bought our original DVC contracts and we found out about the perks we wanted to make sure that all the family enjoyed them as well. After all we were buying timeshare so that our family could spend time together. Now that the kids are getting older, it's even harder for us to get together on a daily basis. But they all love Disney So it becomes a good place for us to spend a few days together. I am under orders whenever I book a trip to just let them know the dates and then they join in when they can. The annual pass makes things so much easier for all of us. But since the kids are getting older and settling their own households, that's why we're considering adding names to the contracts. We would like them to continue the tradition for as long as we have DVC. Nothing would make me happier than knowing after I am long gone, my nieces and nephews are taking their kids to Disney.
