The only OKW contracts that get taken in ROFR are the 2042 ones, which are then flipped to 2057 and resold. Ah so really, they are slowly converting OKW to a 2057 resort. Thus proving that even Disney feels that OKW is the best resort.

Thus proving that even Disney feels that OKW is the best resort. Having stayed there at Christmas I would be happy to stay there again. I loved it! The only thing that is stopping me in a way is that I want to stay at WL (either CCV or BRV), DS wants to stay at the Poly, I’d love a resort-only few days at AKL and my heart belongs to BCV. Oh and I want to stay at POR too. 😂 And with limited return trips, 2-4 realistically, it’s hard. But I’ll definitely combine them with OKW to stretch our points.

I think DVD could do a very complex refurb of OKW, as long as the deeded "structures" still existed in any way throughout the process. DVD could definitely shutter some of the sections - as is usually done - as long as they could accommodate the point reservations necessary for use of those outstanding extended contracts.
Does anyone have a percentage of outstanding OKW points that are on extension? Still, I assume the easiest way out of this predicament for DVC is a buyout. I'm thinking it might be worthwhile buying extended resale contracts when the prices hit near bottom at some point in the current recession to hold (and inexpensive points to use) as a hedge, assuming we don't have another long-term economic disaster within the next 15 years or so?? It could be interesting if someone has 15 years or so to wait it out, and in the meantime, have relatively inexpensive DVC points to use for 14 resorts.

I like the Poly tower; I know it looks like a more modern Waikiki or Ka'anipali resort, but anyone wanting a more 1950s Tiki look can go to the original. Best of both worlds. I think it is a perfect use of existing and limited space and allows for plenty of rooms (hopefully the full cadre of studios, 1,2 and 3 bedrooms) along that area of the 7 Seas. I'm excited to see what they plan for amenities; especially any roof top or top floor restaurant and bar. I hope that they can repeat the success of Riviera's Topolino's. The architecture looks to be in the similar style as the Disneyland DVC and the Swan Reserve. As much as some love the old traditional and thematic looks, the younger travelers - and potential owners - like modern, clean, and upscale look resorts. DVD/DVC is focusing all new projects on those consumers, as they should - - all of us here are counting how old we will be by 2042, 2057, etc...while those consumers are looking at having a 50 year span without the constraint of aging out. I actually like the new tower too. Not because it fits into the existing resort (it does not). But I like that it will be a resort within a resort, with 1 & 2 bedroom units, its own quick service and pool. It will even have its own lobby and check-in. I am sure the decor will be Polynesian/South Pacific to a degree, with a modern flair.
If the resort has a roof top lounge, it will only enhance the resort and possibly take it to another level. But I am not expecting a Topolino type restaurant.

As far as OKW is concerned, DVC could easily set aside just a section of the resort for the 2057 contracts and allow access to all "newly constructed amenities" until they can redo whatever section or section covers that particular number of points. It can be done that way, or they can attempt to buy out the outstanding 2057 contracts. I don't see having a small number or extensions holding back any redo; especially for that particular piece of property. Can they do this though? Set aside part of the resort? According to at least one FL attorney I follow on the DIS, because the deeds show which unit people own a part of, they can’t just remove a section of buildings. Or at least they can’t demolish any of the “units” that are still owned. I guess they could just do a major refurb but there are strict FL laws on this (which presumably override any RCID / new body decisions). As for buying back, that is what they’re doing. The only OKW contracts that get taken in ROFR are the 2042 ones, which are then flipped to 2057 and resold. The issue is the unknown number of contracts where the owners neither extended nor signed the quit claim. And I now know of 4 such owners. Whether I’ll be around to see what happens I don’t know. I hope so, albeit I doubt I’ll still be a DVC member. My travel insurance would probably exceed the annual dues…. 🤪 Same. They cannot release part of the resort per those in the know. It's all or nothing. Oh and I'm one of those owners as you know. The only OKW contracts that get taken in ROFR are the 2042 ones, which are then flipped to 2057 and resold. Ah so really, they are slowly converting OKW to a 2057 resort. Thus proving that even Disney feels that OKW is the best resort. No, not slowly. The entire resort was moved to 2057 in 2007/2008. This is not converting to it, it already is. Only quitclaims are causing some to relinquish their "ownership" early. People need to understand the POS now states 2057 for the entire resort.

This has me excited too. Of course my bank account won't like it. But we are realizing we love the area most and want to split our time there and CCV. Makes my OKW points pointless now.

I'm not in the majority here with my desire to see Reflections happen, but I've held off buying at BLT hoping Reflections will become a reality. I'm also hoping for another Skyliner Loop from that entire Wilderness Lodge / Ft. Wilderness / Reflections area of Bay Lake to the TTC. Riviera has been a great addition to the DVC collection and I believe Reflections will attract new and similar interest as well. Keep your invasive skyliner away from my Lodge! We like the illusion of privacy and solitude.

However, I would love to see a Skyliner connecting connecting Epcot (front) - OKW, SSR, Port Orleans - Disney Springs (by House of Blues).

Fine with me. Epcot is my least favorite park so I don't really care what they do over there. I do like Port Orleans, so would prefer to minimize the skyliner impact there. But I'd rather have one there than close to my Lodge. And no nasty skyliners near AK.

It would feel fitting. They need the boats running at DS right first.

The Starwars Studios too. It's fine. Just keep it away from WL and AK/AKL. Not asking much...

My wife has come to love the skyliner so having one at OKW going to Epcot and Springs would be pretty fantastic.
Although for us OKW folks, one might note that if it were walkable, the end of Miller's Road is 0.6 miles to the Joffrey's coffee shop behind Test Track (according to Google Maps).

I was only teasing because Epcot is still our favorite. I agree that a skyliner at MK would be wrong. AKL could be fun to look at animals but visually it's all wrong. I finally got myself over enough of the skyliner. Even rode with strangers and did fine. Took a few rides and I got some sliders out of it too woot! My wife has come to love the skyliner so having one at OKW going to Epcot and Springs would be pretty fantastic. They could have done something if they wanted but lots of busy roads made them not I think.
