For those who are used to the traditional 1-bed villas, these have a partial kitchen, no master bedroom, one bathroom for 6 people, no washer dryer. And it probably also has some downsides. This sounds completely unappealing both from a location and amenities standpoint. If I want to stay in a wilderness, I'll go book something in the wilderness, not faux wilderness at an amusement park.
Cheers.

Well that one technically isn't a new association, just new room types This also makes it so if Reflections abomination ever comes to pass I can say nope too. As for every single other comment so far I 100% agree. It's one thing for us not to do a resort due to location off Disney theme parks, it's another to avoid this hot mess of an offering. I’ve never stayed at the Poly at all and with the directional challenged hubby we are waiting. The points are so high compared to my value studios at Jambo! We'll have to try to get you a Duo for him just to save points. But yes, for your hubby, the current DVC would be horrible. He'd get lost for days It seems to me that they’re going after the same market as the current cabins. Which on the face of it is fine …. except are those people going to fork out for a 50 year ownership? For those who are used to the traditional 1-bed villas, these have a partial kitchen, no master bedroom, one bathroom for 6 people, no washer dryer. They will have a private patio. And will be good for larger families. They may well be a popular choice for renters who have stayed in the current cabins or like the idea of these. But I guess there is going to be a lot of 7 month availability and that it will take a long time to sell. It could be the next Aulani in that regard. And of the cash price through Disney is higher than the current cash price then they won’t get the current fans booking either. Not really good for large families. 6 max. Barely better than a studio. Some 1 bedrooms would be faaaar more appealing too with a similar size. Sure 5 vs 6 but it's not that great being all smushed together I do see this as the next Aulani unless somehow points go for cheap which likely won't happen. With a minimum buy in, even low point costs will make it unappealing. Sorry but these are really bad. For those who are used to the traditional 1-bed villas, these have a partial kitchen, no master bedroom, one bathroom for 6 people, no washer dryer. And it probably also has some downsides.

Cheers. Well said! I actually did stay at fort Wilderness for my very first trip a decade or four ago, and let me tell you it's not wilderness. It's nice, it's quiet, there are a lot of trees, but it really was not stand out compared to any other campsites we did growing up. That would probably be why fort Wilderness was literally a one and done for me. Even these cabins? They were absolutely not appealing based off of how cramped he would be on the inside. I might as well have a trailer that at least can put beds further apart.

It kind of defeats the purpose of a separate bedroom.....why not just make it a big villa, open concept trailer!
Also, another design flaw is that the bathroom is on the opposite side of the trailer, away from the bedroom.
What a piece of crap these trailers going to be.

It’s funny you should mention the bunks in the bedroom….. On the Touring Plans forum we had a heated debate between people like me, who want a private master bedroom for separation from kids, and those who want a new type of 1-bedroom villa with two queens in the bedroom so that will accommodate a family of six. It was surprising (to me anyway) how many people liked that idea. But very few of them were existing DVC members. So it’s possible that, like the duo studios, the cabins might appeal to a new group of potential owners. But for us it would be a hard no. Our main reason for buying DVC was being able to have our own room and privacy from the boys whilst staying onsite.

Just curious, were they expecting the two parents/owners to be in the same areas two of the people and others were separate? Or were they thinking of putting almost everyone but parents/owners in their own separate space. I guess the cabins could technically have all kids in one room, and parents/owners and another, but it still doesn't address the idea that the bathroom is way on the other side of the trailer err... cabin We learned when my son was 5 months old that a studio just is not going to happen for us for a longer trip. I have happily share just a studio with my son, but we get separate beds. It just felt kind of wasteful to do one bedrooms when we could do a studio. So I don't always mind not having my own space, but we prefer it especially for longer trips. I will say, think about how many families who do just one hotel room and cram everyone in together. So those people likely don't have issues sharing same spaces?

I know plenty of people who prefer all the beds together in one room and will even bring air mattresses to fit as many people in the room as possible. They don't care that there is no where to step or put things. The usual argument is "I'm just sleeping there." When I was much younger, I was part of a group that had about 12 of us in one standard sized hotel room in Vegas - never again. Of course, with Disney, the extra people won't be registered so won't get the early access, but plenty find the early access too early anyway.
Even one step further. I know a medical professional who is quite well off who will find 3 other people to share a room with her when she goes to a medical conference. It's odd enough that she wants to share a room with 3 people (and there are only 2 beds), but even more odd that she can find 3 other medical professionals who are willing to do this.
Definitely not for me, as I love space.

It's not that it was a preference, though. It was just cheaper

Yeah, the whole point of buying DVC for me was so i don't have to share a room with my kids. The one time I rented a travel trailer at Fort Wilderness, it had a bedroom in the front of the trailer and a bunk room in the back for the kids with plenty of space in between like god intended.

I remember in 2005, when the kids were early teens. We stayed in a hotel with connecting rooms at WDW. This was our first trip to WDW. All of our vacations prior, we have always stayed in condos at the beach or a Westin Timeshare. Each room had two beds. Robin and I was in one bed and Adam was in the bed next to us. That boy snored every single night, plus add on that he was 11 and went to bed early, which forced us to have to go to bed early. It was a terrible week of sleep and lack of privacy.

This is exactly what I'd rather do rhan use the cabins. Space is really nice! A bit of separation could have been done somehow. I know some people who do really like to share spaces. We're just not one of them. My kid didn't share a bed really ever until his 8th grade trip to DC. That was also his first real hotel stay. When we travel we tend to do Villas or homes. It was just new to him. His second hotel stay would have been at Disney off-site. He's not looking forward to doing that again if he has to for a band trip. I believe this April he will be sharing four to a room maybe in NYC. I'm not 100% sure, because larger hotel rooms are not all that common and I'm not sure where in this city they are staying. It's a newer place then yes, probably four to a room.

The renting of the travel trailer was fun but made me realize I am not cut out for RV life. I didn't even have to drive and park the thing, level it off or deal with the sewer tank but watching others do it did not look like fun.
Plus it's all quite flimsy compared to a sticks and bricks home. The floor feels hollow and the insulation is weak, we had to run the AC all the time in mid-Oct and it was extremely loud. Probably a one and done for us. Was hoping the DVC cabins could be an alternative but not based on what I'm seeing. We'll probably do Copper/Beaver creek instead.

Others suggested putting the kids in the bedroom and taking the Murphy bed. Those who were similar minded to me kept saying “DVC is supposed to be a home from home - do you have bunk beds in your bedroom at home”. The others would just reply “But it’s not home, it’s a vacation”.

We had a pop up camper growing up (hence my first trip to WDW being at Ft Wilderness) so I get the flimsy aspect. The cabins just qre not enough for me either. I'd almost rather the camper. But all in all I'd rather the villas.
I get that some are just not into a similar mindset. I mean I even know DVC people who do 5 in a studio and love it. It's just different opinions I think. We did cram together a lot growing up but as I got older my dad would splurge for connecting rooms. No one had to share a bed. It was nice.

If you’re bunking a bunch of cousins and grandparents with assorted aunts and uncles , sure, stack them up. Everyone is being cheep. But that’s not a vacation either. I don’t cook on vacation either.
