Back when we started DVC, we would budget the cost of the dining plan per day for meals, and just pay cash. We always had money left over at the end of the week. At that time, it was $75 per day, so that's the number I've always used. But, the last couple of trips we've run short. Of course, when we first started we also had TiW, so maybe that's the difference.

I like your idea of budgeting out the cost per day and then paying as you go; that way there's more flexibility of what to order at any given time. For me, I sometimes like to order multiple appetizers as my meal. |

DDP just has no incentive anymore. It's just easier to use GC's or CC.

We LOVED TIW...now we buy GC (discounted usually from Target) for food and expenses then we know what we are spending. Sometimes we have some money left on them but most of the time we use CC for last dinner meal or so. For us - 3-4 people we spend $100 a day easily...usually because of sit-down dinners. We buy groceries for 1 bedroom for breakfast and drinks/fruit.

I haven't done the math in a few years, but i can't see how the DDP would work for us. We do a combination of accumulated GC's (always looking for a 10% cash back deal on one of my Chase cards) and the 10% DVC/AP discount. It's an added bonus if one of my cc's has a 5% cash back quarterly bonus (Discover) or 5x points (Freedom Flex). For our July/August trip, Discover's quarterly bonus includes Apple Pay, so we'll use that for online ordering lunch (and buying Genie+).

My family loved the DDP because we didn’t have my father eyeing the prices, saying “I’ll just order an appetizer” and getting the side-eye from the rest of us. This price is even ridiculous for us. It’s $20 more than pre-COVID for less (only 1 snack). At least we have the DVC discount. Maybe TIW or some version wil come back one day.

Has anyone had success adding this on to an existing DVC reservation? I have a reservation in January 2024 and was told it couldn't be added on but to check back closer to my arrival date.
