Tell them you are DVC, and why you are there. We have never had a problem getting into other resorts with the exception of Christmas/NY.

DH and I are probably in the minority here, but We 100% support being strict on parking at the resorts. Several years ago, when they closed off that side parking lot at BWV. and before they got more strict, I recall one trip where there were only 3 open spots in the entire front parking lot at BWV. 3! no exaggeration, and it stayed bad like that for several years. I am very happy that they don't let people park there who aren't staying there or don't have dining reservations. Pay to park system might be good too.. Currently Universal does that. If you want to just park for the day at Royal Pacific, as a non hotel guest, it's $45/day, over 30 mins. Theme park parking in the garage is $28/day. I think if it wasn't like this, people would totally be taking advantage of parking at the hotels to walk/boat over. I'm pretty sure they'll validate the parking though if dining at a resort restaurant. We've not had as much trouble finding spots at BWV for the last few years, so whatever they changed, seems to have worked. We don't always get to park close, but at least now there are a good amount of spots available..

Update. One of our last days at the BCV, it happened again. This time we had already mobile ordered our food from RIV, with a plan to take the skyline. I had placed order from the room, and DH was walking to skyline to pickup food. He was at the skyline, when it went down again - weather. I grabbed my keys and went to the car and drove to RIV. This time at the gate, I again explained we are staying at the BC. I showed my reservation in the phone and nicely explained to the gate guard that I just needed to pickup my quick service and there was zero benefit to my parking at RIV (since staying at BC) and that I just wanted to get my quick service. She had me pull over, and made a call to her supervisor - who gave permission for me to pick up my food since we were staying at BC.

Frustrating.....Perhaps they were new and unsure of the rules or policies in your situation.
