Hello Everyone! First post on the new forum!
We are headed to DL for the first time 1/25-1/29. Super quick trip from the East coast as our DD is competing in a gymnastics meet in Anaheim.
We couldn’t get availability at GC so staying offsite…Hampton Inn & Suites Garden Grove - anyone stayed there before? Is it safe to be walking back to the hotel at night?
We are flying into LAX (1:00 PM) and out of ONT (11:50 PM)what should we do for ground transportation? Shuttle? Lyft/UBer? Recommendations?
We are only doing 2 park days. One of which is the start of the 100th celebration so that’s cool, but it’s going to be super busy plus the cost for going that day is $$$). We were thinking of doing G+ for both days and no PH so one park a day. Thoughts?
Any advice would be most appreciated!!!

I haven't done transportation there in a while. And last time I did my friend booked it and not me, but it was a car service for us. I think with 2 days, not hopping is wise. I think only multiple day stays is it really worth it to hop.
btw I created a Disneyland board so your post doesn't get lost in just the regular theme parks board

We were thinking of doing G+ for both days and no PH so one park a day. Thoughts? Any advice would be most appreciated!!! Can't help on the airport transport, as we've rented a car when there (always part of a larger trip to SoCal). As for walking to the hotel, I can't say for sure, but you'd probably be fine from a safety standpoint. We have stayed nearby twice, and both times had no concerns walking to and from (there are a ton of nearby hotels and rentals and people walk all over). That hotel is a bit further out than we stayed, however, so I can't speak to what the foot traffic is in that particular area. That said, you are talking about close to 1.5 miles from the park entry, so that's quite a walk at the end of a long day. Just something to keep in mind. Finally, regarding hoppers, we would never do DL/DCA without them. The two parks are literally across a promenade from one another (really one big park with two gates). To get G+ without the hopper will severely limit your ability to maximize your visit. We bounced between the two regularly when we used MaxPass (the precursor to G+, which was similar to G+ in many ways), and we always able to accomplish a tremendous amount.

We used Super Shuttle and I still thought we were going to die in that traffic! I have no idea if they are in business still, but I think they are.
My family loved our trip to DL. I hope we can get back. I wish you all a glorious trip!!
Don't miss World of Color. It is worth every second of trouble to see it.
I just went back to read your post and saw you're there during the 100th celebration. I think WoC has a virtual queue. If I find it, I'll post it, but I think I saw it on Instagram.

Yep, they're still around unfortunately. Used (or attempted to use) Super Shuttle and/or their ExecuCar service on 2 previous Disneyland trips.and they didn't show. Never again.

Thanks Helenabear for starting a DL thread and moving my thread to it!!
We actually changed our hotel today to the Suncoast Tapestry Hotel by Hilton as we found a great rate and looks like only a 10-12 minute walk to the parks!
So it sounds like airport ground transportation is tricky. If anyone has suggestions please let me know - again we fly into LAX but out of ONT…
We ended up with just one park per day tickets and hoping G+ works well (fingers crossed).
Any suggestions on food or anything else feel free to share!!!

Any suggestions on food or anything else feel free to share!!! Have you looked into renting a car? You’re probably looking at $100 each direction for an Lyft/car service. Possibly more depending on time of day traffic/surcharges. Sun coast is not too far but if you want to head back to your room and relax mid day, try the Courtyard Marriott. It’s real close and comfortable. The closest place is the Best Western Inn & Suites. Literally right across the street from the entrance but I’m not a huge fan of motel rooms. I would recommend Genie+. Most locals don’t buy it so it’s not too difficult to get 10+ reservation per day if you start in the morning. I would also recommend the park hoppers as it is super quick to walk from one park to the other and you can make Genie+ selections for either park Do the single rider line for Radiator Springs. Hopefully the rain stops before your trip!

Been a few years for us but we flew into LAX, got our bags, walked out to the taxi stand and told the young man "Disneyland" and he's like "all right!" and off we went. I thought it was like a hundred bucks at the time, but no stops, nothing.

Heya! Yay for a short DL trip! I love DL for its ability to give me a Disney hit over a weekend. 8-)
At the Suncoast Tapestry Hotel you'll be fine. I always stay at the Anaheim Worldmark (gotta use them timeshare points, also I'm addicted to 2 bedrooms). Worldmark is just one road further down than the Suncoast Tapestry. In my MANY trips I've never had issues walking down Disney Way which leads to the Suncoast Tapestry. So as far as safety, I would have no worries walking, even at night.
Definitely get G+. I just went pre-Christmas and though things were really crowded, it was easy to get all the rides I wanted. I only skipped Peter Pan's Flight because it doesn't have G+ and I aint got time for that. (rofl)
I know its SUPER easy to park hop given the two parks are right next to each other. But I also find the way I do it, I've never used park hopping even when I have those tickets. So I agree on one park per day.
For SURE see world of Color. I would suggest a dining package that will get you the reserved area. I know its late, but I got a reservation late myself for my Christmas trip, so maybe? They do it strangely for World of Color... You just make a reservation at one of the restaurants (Wine Country Trattoria or Story Teller's Buffet) and when you are there you tell your server you want the World of Color Package. You don't reserve the Package ahead of time like other packages. We did Wine Country, and it was great! it seems to have gotten much better than its been in the past. Maybe just a good day? YMMV
One thing about the Disneyland Park itself, you'll have to choose between Fireworks (whichever is running when you're there) or Fantasmic. You're going to be tempted to see both... don't try. it's too hard to make it work, and leads to a crappy view of both in my opinion. Personally, I advocate Fantasmic. Partly I recommend Fantasmic because if you stay where you watch Fantasmic after the show, you can watch the fireworks with a great view, you just don't get the projections on the castle/mainstreet. Again, I would recommend a dining package (reserved separately as normal in Disney Parks) for Fantasmic.
As for transport... from LAX I would just take Lyft/Uber, that's what I do from LAX. Its costly, but so is most everything else. I don't know about Oakland, that's an airport I've never been to.
Happy travels! If you have any other questions, happy to help!
Julian

We are actually checking out of VGC & heading to Oceanside area the day you arrive - I did begrudgingly rented a car for the trip- I am a city girl at heart so public transportation to me is a no- brainer. I spent most of my adult life working with the NYC transit system. My kids on the other hand are a bit spoiled but I had originally planned to take train from LA union station to Anaheim. metrolinktrains.com/schedules/?type=station&originId=180&destinationId=128&weekend=0#0

For flying out of ONT, you need to check the ONT airport's website to see which ride company services it. As I recall, Uber stopped (due to fees) but Lyft still does. Yup, from 2019: www.fontanaheraldnews.com/business/uber-stops-serving-ontario-international-airport-but-lyft-aims-to-meet-the-demand/Uber stopped due to the $1 fee imposed by the airport authority. Metrolink Trains are available, but could pricey during the weekdays, even for a 1-way trip. From LAX (which actually means you have to take a bus to Union Station), it's about $9/per person. Add that to the fare from LAX to Union Station, plus the time, it is worth it to Uber/Lyft or private shuttle to Anaheim. See: www.flylax.com/flyaway-bus/union-stationand www.flylax.com/flyaway-bus/fares-ticketsThat is $9.75/person. So, $18.75/per person, one way to get to the Anaheim train station which you still have to then take transportation to your hotel/motel.

I wish I'd seen this post sooner. In terms of walking back and safety, you should be okay. I noticed you moved over to Suncoast. The walk is shorter, but you don't have the well lit sections of Harbor, like you normally have when you were at Hampton Inn. I was gonna say (when you had Hampton Inn originally) that you're also close to Joe's Italian Ice which is a must visit. They might look busy, but the lines actually go pretty fast. But going back to safety, you should be okay. Just have your head on a swivel. I've never walked from the Sun Coast resort, but I do remember it being kind of dark on some of the side streets. Take a look at Google Maps just to get yourself oriented with the area. Plus, depending on what time you're walking back, you'll see all kinds of people walking too . . . especially the mornings. Have fun and good luck with the gymnastics meet.
