Hey everyone! This is one of my first posts in magic owners but I’ve been lurking and reading. And from my mouseowners experience I know there are a few Hilton head experts around here! We are potentially planning a family trip (4 families with varied age levels and interests) to Hilton head. Unfortunately Disneys site isn’t showing availability at HHI so now I’m looking for recommendations for other condo style resorts in the area that have pools and “stuff” to keep kids busy. also recommendations for kids age 5:7 of things to do besides the beach in the area. (They love the beach but the beach isn’t enough to keep them busy for 7 days as they are used to Disney park style vacations). Thanks for any advice!

Sorry, I'm a yearly visitor to Disney's Resort at HHI (since 2005), but I know nothing of any other resorts on the island

Hi there, have never been but if you go into trip reports and scroll through looking for Sue’s Hilton Head report. Her user name is wdw1972, she goes to HH at least once a year, has over 25 trips there under her belt. She stays at HH DVC but she knows the island and reports on places to eat, tours they have done. So that may give you some ideas. She travels with adults but many times her son, DIL and grandson join her. I’m sure many of the resorts in the area have kids activities to keep them busy. Good luck and enjoy planning.

I've heard good things about the Marriot right on the beach. We started going when my kiddos were 4 and 7 and try to go annually. Lots to do for families on the island! I'd recommend the Coastal Discovery Museum (donation based admission), tons to do and see there! Also, pirate mini golf is a huge hit with my family! there is a rate you can pay to golf all week Also, if you can, schedule a dolphin cruise! They are so much fun and you end up seeing a lot! In town by the public beach, there is a new pirate ship playground with misters! My kids had a blast there. If you head to Harbour Town for the day (I think $10 admission per car), there are several cool playgrounds as well!

My kids could spend all day at playgrounds so that’s good to know there are a few good ones in the area.

Welcome aboard to the posting world! We have been going as a larger family for 7-8 years now. There is much to do besides the beach, though most of ours were happy there. Pools were another great place to expend the energy. I’d definitely read the trip reports mentioned above. As far as condos, we have landed at Sea Crest just north of Coligny for the past three years. The location is central, and it is beach front. Depending on what your family enjoys and how they travel, areas in Sea Pines and Palmetto Dunes (where the Beach House is) are very popular. Lots of biking and activities. We have our go to places to eat and always take a local recommendation to try a new one each year. Had a friend follow us this year, and she has already given me a new place to try next summer. And we’ve heard mixed accounts on touring the Beach House. Probably like the parks, depends on time of year and who is at the gate.

I think it will depend on two things....1) if its a busy time of year (Holidays) 2) who is working that day.
We have done many resort tours as a non-guest. We go to the front desk and ask to talk to the manager. We politely ask to tour the resort and almost all the time the answer is yes. A few times we had scouted an area for a large family trip and most of the resorts even let us tour unoccupied rooms.

We have only stayed at the Disney resort. Friends of ours rave about Sonesta - not sure how kid friendly it is.
