So sorry to hear about your dad. And I'm so happy that they were able to return your points. Once less thing to worry about at a stressful time with your dad in the hospital.

Thanks so much for the information and advice. I called MS and they took great care of us. Without even asking for an exception, she listened, and said "Let me figure out where all of these points come from (we have 3 home resorts), and get everything aligned, then I'll get my manager to approve full return". We got all of our points back, no holding on any of them. That's great to hear. Sorry for your father being ill. Enjoy your time. Thank you for your service. Semper Fi. USMC 0311, 94-98

So sorry to hear about your dad - sending prayers - If cancelled within 30 days of reservation, points go into holding which means they cannot be banked and can only be booked within 60 days of travel. However, given the fact that your father is ill, I tend to think they will not put them into holding. Explain your situation and I tend to think your points will return to where they were taken. Are you still within your banking window?

Maybe someone can explain this to me. My DD cancelled 1 night at the Riviera in late October and asked MS to use those exact same points to 1 night at VGF in September. MS did it but it took about an hour and they kept telling her that they were doing her a huge favor. To be clear September 30 is her banking window and the points were ones that had been banked.
I understand that the Riviera reservation was in Oct, past the banking window but she was well within the cancellation policy. What am I not getting?

Was the September reservation a new or existing one and if it was an existing one when was it booked?

She used banked points, probably a combination of both. September reservation is new. She was looking for a way for the canceled Riviera reservation points to not go into holding. She might have booked the VGF room with bankable points and then asked MS to reallocate and there might be the huge favor they talked about.

The points used for the cancelled Riviera reservation weren’t in danger of going into holding at this point. If the GFV reservation is within 30 days from the date she made the request to re-allocate, those would have gone into holding. Maybe they waived that. Or it could be that normally they would use Holding > Borrowed > Banked > Current points in that order. Possibly she was asking for that order to be changed in some way. Or the CM just didn’t want to re-allocate points because it’s a pfaff for them to do.

I’m sure it was a bite in the butt for them to do it for her but it got done. Kudos to MS. Now I have 6 little points hanging out in holding myself. She wanted to use them too but MS said a firm no, different contracts. She is listed as a co-owner on our contracts but we are not on hers.
