We're having a hard time understanding the policy? We found where it says that points go back to a use year bank, but don't "really" understand what that means? We are scheduled to go CCV this Saturday the 19th through Thursday the 24th. We were taking my Dad for what could have been his last trip, but he's in the hospital with fluid in his lungs. He can't go, but said we should go w/o him. We're probably going to cancel that trip and go visit him instead (we're in MD, he's in MA). I think we're ok to cancel, being 2 days out, but are there any risks? I thought we'd just get the points back into our current use year, and be able to use/bank/etc "as normal". When I read the policy it doesn't seem that simple? Help?

If you cancel a room reservation 30 days or less from check in (and before the check in date), the points are returned to the use year in which the reservation was to take place AND they will be in a holding status. Points in holding can only be used for a NEW reservation that's booked 60 days or less from the check in date. Points in holding can't be banked or borrowed and will expire at the end of the use year if unused.
It's possible that MS can make an exception to the holding policy. That would be handled on a case by case basis.

Thanks for the reply, it was definitely something like that we read that confused us. Part of that makes sense to me, part of it seems contradictory? - If we cancel today, 2 days out, the points are returned to our 2023 April UY.
- They're also put in holding status.
- We can use them for another reservation that's booked between now and 18 Oct (19 Aug + 60?)
- The points have to be used before the end of March 2024?
So that means that unless a CM gives us an exception, we have to book another stay within the next 60 days and check in before April 1 2024? Sorry to be so picky, but this is a lot of points. We have almost 700 points tied up in a 3BR at CCV for 6 nights...

These three are correct: - If we cancel today, 2 days out, the points are returned to our 2023 April UY. - They're also put in holding status. - The points have to be used before the end of March 2024? I've restated the last one: ORIGINAL: We can use them for another reservation that's booked between now and 18 Oct (19 Aug + 60?) RESTATED: We can use them for another reservation that's booked between now and 31 Mar 24 (Apr 23 UY expiration), BUT the reservation cannot be made more than 60 days in advance. Best wishes for your father and good luck with the new ressie.

I’d ask for an exception first. They can only say “no” and they might say “yes.”
Sorry to hear about your dad too.

I would definitely see if you can get an exception. It’s worth a call to MS. Sorry about your dad. I had that happen once, and we were going to be traveling with my mom. She ended up in the hospital prior and was unable to travel. They did make an exception, which was great because of my UY there was no way I would be able to use the points. Fingers crossed you get a sympathetic cast mate.

Thanks so much for the information and advice. I called MS and they took great care of us. Without even asking for an exception, she listened, and said "Let me figure out where all of these points come from (we have 3 home resorts), and get everything aligned, then I'll get my manager to approve full return".
We got all of our points back, no holding on any of them.

That's great you got your points back. Same thing happened to me when my wife was hospitalized the day before we were supposed to leave. Hope your Dad feels better soon.

Happy that MS helped you. I have had a few last minute reasons to have to cancel and they have always been great.

We got all of our points back, no holding on any of them. So glad to read that your points were returned without penalty to tour account.
Sorry to read that your dad is not doing well. Enjoy the time you have with your Dad!
