I once taught filing at a business college about thirty-five years ago. The indefinite and definite articles (a, an, the) are not to be used when alphabetizing, so that's how I roll. I also use the Oxford comma and double-space after end marks. I would rephrase that as were not to be used when alphabetizing as these things are fluid. I agree with you and do it the same as you (I vacillate on the Oxford comma, though). But I also acknowledge that they (I wish I knew who they were) change the rules periodically.
Cheers.

I use that, and I blame it on tech-writing in engineering school - that is a list and those are three separate items, thank you.
