My 2 cents... We rented our points during Covid for way more than what we pay for them. I imagine you could easily use the money you get and book a great trip elsewhere. I would rent the points out and use that money to just book a trip you want to go on. Easier than all the hoops you have to jump through to get II and such. Just a thought. Well, since I was trying to book for my DD and her DH for their honeymoon and wanted to ensure a nice property with fairly specific dates that was my first thought. Planned to rent or transfer enough points that I would have used for a week in Maui and use the cash to book them a regular hotel. Trouble with that is the cost of hotel rooms in Hawaii has almost doubled since the pandemic. I couldn't even get them a week somewhere decent in cash for the equivalent points a week for a II trade would have been. Thankfully I hit upon the idea of a cruise around the Hawaiian islands and then continues on to Vancouver. They both loved the idea and instead of covering just their accommodations for a week on Maui, they are going on a 12 day Royal Caribbean cruise in a balcony cabin. Plus it covers their meals and includes a lot of entertainment. So now I'm looking to rent or transfer points!

Same. I did some research on trading into II to book Maui and read that what you see on the site without depositing points is the "leftovers" and your best chance is to put in an ongoing search. Some questions: 1. How in the world are you supposed to plan for specific dates for airfare if you have no idea what dates will match, if ever? 2. Is there a way to put in an ongoing search without depositing points first? 3. If the answer to question 2 is "no" why would I take the risk of depositing points if there is no guarantee your ongoing search will match for the dates or property you want? 4. Am I missing something or not understanding how this works? Because the way it seems to work right now there is no way I would deposit points in II before knowing I could book what I want for the dates I want. It’s somewhat of a crap shoot- 1) place the request as far out as you can and for specific dates 2) I tried to highlight that in the screenshots - they don’t make it easy 3) answered in 2 in can be done 4) I honestly have no intention of depositing DVC - unless something drastic happens…But I have 2 timeshares units that are specifically for trading in interval. The real benefit to DVC in II is the getaways and short stays - my son was leaving work with his buddies in Tampa and wanted to stop in at universal before they headed off…For $ 249 they had 3 nights in a pretty nice full 2bedroom unit. Thank you for the information and help. And glad I wasn't too far off in my understanding of the process. It's the "crapshoot" part of this that just doesn't work for me. If they came up with a system where you could actually see availability for specific resorts and dates so you could deposit and book for that exact thing so you know your dates and can plan then trading in would be a lot more attractive and straightforward. I do understand *why* it doesn't work that way since they need to wait until someone deposits their week into the system for it to become available (if it ever does). From my research I found out trying to book Hawaii/Maui is tough just in general due to demand.

IT is a good question. When I have looked it has been around trying to find a spot in Europe for a period of time but the resorts in Spain/France/Italy do not appear to be near where we would like as our center for travel so I stopped researching.
I suppose I can see myself trading out for Scottsdale at some point in the future for a golf week. Maybe St. Johns!!!!!!!!!

It will actually should work that way for @capeokw being able to see what dates units are available immediaty for exchange - because they already have points deposited...and it should be a good trader as the measly amount of points I used for "quick search first" gave me optional 4 bedroom resorts. I don't see those kinds of options as my Marriott unit I generally deposit as a 1 bedroom or studio.

OK, I'm going to try to ask a couple questions here. Say we want to go to Cape Cod, but we want to use some of our points. We look at some of the places II has at the Cape. But how do we know how much it would cost (in points) to stay there? Is there a chart somewhere of the "seasons" and the cost per size unit per night at each resort? Do I have to transfer points to II before I can find out?

II only shows a TDI chart…(trade demand index) While it doesn’t give a point to point chart ( again crapshoot especially IMO cause it’s just to new ) that index will show what weeks dates are higher demand- and just like DVC higher demand weeks will be more expensive points wise and harder to get… What I have seen so far is that our DVC points seem to be valued pretty highly for exchange- for me DVC II seems to automatically set to 190pts per u/y and that gives options of up to 4bedrooms- in comparison with my Marriott II account I can’t see past a 2bedroom.

If you'd like to insert multiple pictures, you'll need to host them on a 3rd party site (I recommend imgur.com) and then insert them into your post.

Say I wanted a week in Camden Maine (is there even an II there?) in August?

For the getaways and short stays, can you book that directly on the site or do you have to call MS?
