Like others, I have more than one contract. While planning a future trip, I figured out a way to reserve the various nights so as to use up the EXACT amount of points for one of my contracts (current UY and the next UY) with a certain amount coming from the other contract. The upside is it would leave ZERO, which makes me happy (nailed it). The downside is that for a two week trip, I would have to make five reservations, making the calendar look like a patchwork quilt. This used to not be a problem when MS would combine (or link or whatever) the reservations, but these days I would be stuck not being able to make dining reservations more than a couple days at a time. We've all felt this pain...
If I do it the more sensible way, making the two-week trip in TWO reservations, one of my contracts gets left with either eight or two points, which doesn't make me happy the same way as having zero. But also, these points would not go as far into the future as the other contract. You could say that leaving it with ZERO maximizes the value of my points by leaving as many as possible in the contract with the later UY. Admittedly this is only a few months and most likely wouldn't matter, but you never know.
One other time, I used the EXACT amount of points in my contract; it was awesome! I think I only had to split it into three instead of five.

We have many contracts and two use years. I have never used the exact amount, thanks to borrowing and banking points. I also have never left a point on the table, to go unused. Lucky for us, we throw in a few weekend trips a year, booked under the 7-month window that suck-up any stray point we have.

We did orphan 4 points one time, not quite sure how...
Cheers.

We have never used the exact number of points from either of our contracts, though I must admit I never tried In your situation it sounds iike it may be more work related to dining reservations than the upside of hitting it exact. I bank or borrow as needed, but I tend to look for the "easy" route.

Forever a borrower, no such issues.

We are in borrowing, also, but we only do one long trip in a 1bd once per year, so I don't get the option of relying on multiple short trips to keep points from getting stale, so to speak. Not only that, but the trip I am making will have me completely borrowed, meaning we won't be able to go again for however long it takes until the contracts re-populate with enough points to take our 1x/year long trip. So I need to make sure I have everything planned out so those 3pts or 8pts don't get wasted...basically I said to wife, "How about Jan/Feb 2026? Maybe in 2025 we do that cruise you've been bringing up" it's a little odd thinking that far out.

I never have exact. Partially because points have changed so much since we bought, and we don't always do the exact dates (school dictates mostly now) every year as well. I have some straggler points from 2023 I need to use or bank, but we haven't decided where we are staying next year anyway.
As long as room type and resort are the same under 1 membership, they will combine. I don't think they've ever combined 2 memberships.

With the freedom to bank and borrow, stragglers aren't a problem for us typically. Something unusual would need to have happened like overborrowed or a trip got changed leaving a few points behind. Even when we borrow it's typically combined with current points to make a reservation so if something changes and we have a few left those will be the current ones and can be banked. We end up with some borrowed from next year and others banked into next year but nothing lost.

I would try not to lose any single point even if it means I have to spend more money on the one time use points Haha .

I have one UY, so maybe that makes everything easier. But the bank borrow system has worked for me for years. Or too many, I rent to my regulars that hit me up, just when I think.. darn that’s a lot of points I have left to bank. Since 97 I think I gave ‘back’ 2 points, one year. It happens, no biggy.
