My daughter is going to Hawaii in about a month with a couple of friends. Months ago I booked three nights at Aulani for them. I’m not sure how much research they’ve done into it, but the planner in me is starting to sweat for them. Hoping some here can answer a few questions for me.
I booked a studio with a garden view…should I bother making any type of room request? I have no idea about desirable locations at this resort.
Also, I’ve briefly read about a tax they’ll have to pay. What can they expect to pay? It’s a three night studio stay, using 63 points total, if that helps.
Are there any must do things for them to enjoy? They’ll be on Maui the entire week before so I think their plan is to just enjoy the resort for the most part.
Thank you for any help/advice for them. I can plan a Disney trip with my eyes closed but I can’t give them any advice about Aulani so I look to the experts here!

Not a ton of planning necessary. Just get up early to grab pool deck chairs, they go quickly. 3 days is a perfect amount of time to just lounge at the resort.
How old is your daughter? There is a good happy hour at the fish house restaurant at the Four Seasons.
I recommend Roy’s for dinner. It’s a 10 minute walk.
taxes on a studio should run much more than $10/day

Also, plenty of nearby options for Luau’s. I don’t think the one at Aulani is every night. Paradise Cove is walking distance and I think it is every night and probably cheaper. Chiefs is close driving distance and probably the best value. Germain’s (so?) is also close driving distance.

We went in February and didn't find the need to grab chairs super early in the morning. We always seemed to find two or three chairs with relative ease, especially down by the beach. YMMV.
The water equipment rental by the beach, some of it is free, so she could definitely take advantage of that.
I recommend eating at Monkey Pod, which is right across the street from Aulani. We also liked Eggs n Things, which was also across the street.
We liked the resort's drawing class as well.
As far as the room selection, we had a garden view so we asked for the Ewa "Long" Wing, Upper Floor. This gave us a great view of the ocean as well as the luau.
It's an hour+ drive but we highly recommend the Toa Luau at the Waimea historical center and waterfall. We absolutely loved it.
